With the trainer safely out of the way, the ranger stepped forward, his styler at the ready. He would need to capture him in order to calm him down, and hopefully that would be the end of it. If not, he would improvise from there.

“Okay, fine. I accept your challenge.” Kellyn responded calmly. He had dealt with a similar situation before, so he was ready to end this encounter.Taking a firm stance, he placed his hand on the styler, and launched the disk forth.

“Capture on! Vatonage!” he called out, tracing the shape of the area on the ground quickly. If he could befriend him, then he could diffuse this situation. The process took several minutes, between Kellyn keeping the disk from harm, and trying to encourage the ursuang to calm down.

“It’s all right! She didn’t try to overtake your territory!” he began to explain, as the disk returned to him. Capture complete! He walked up to the pokemon, petting it gently on the forearm.

“She was just going home. There’s no need to be upset, okay?” he added on, in a calm and reassuring manner.

     Capture stylers were sure something, she was impressed on how professionally he handled himself while he calmed the raging Pokemon down. Leilani held her breath as the stranger ranger talked the ursine creature down. Satisfied with the man’s reassurance, the Ursaring turned back towards the woods and wandered off. 

     “ Hoo-wee, that was plenny scary, Thanks cuz! I thought i was a goner! ” She suddenly felt sheepish, she was a trainer and a ranger saved her ass, “ My Pokemon were in no position to battle him. I really appreciate this.”

Kellyn had been doing night patrols while he was in Unova as a support. He had a liking for it, since back in Tandor he usually was up all hours of the night for one reason or another. He could hear rustling and the sounds of a skirmish, so he ventured closer to see what was going on.

If it was a battle between pokemon, he’d let them be. Nature fought nature, and they had their ways of handling things. He peered closer to spot a pokemon he knew too well— an ursaring. A big one at that.

“Must be a male.” he commented to himself. The males tended to fight over territory quite often, so he paid no attention..until he saw what opponent he was fighting wasn’t a pokemon.

But a female, human.

Kellyn didn’t need to think about what the end result was going to be. First, he had to get her out of harm’s way, then he had to deal with the ursaring. He quickly made his way towards the girl and the pokemon, pushing himself forward with a leap. he easily snatched up the trainer, and got both of them out of the way.

He landed on his side, placing her behind him. He readied his styler, hoping to make this an easy capture so he could send the bear on it’s way.

“Stay here, and don’t make any loud noises.” he instructed carefully. He got up, now between the girl and the pokemon. He was ready for anything it would throw at him.

     Pain never came. Instead she felt herself moving at high velocity - maybe she was rolling? - and before she could really open her eyes and register what had happened she found herself out of harms way. In front of her, standing between herself and a very fierce looking male Pokemon, was a Ranger. 

     “Stay here, and don’t make any loud noises.”

     His voice was careful, and she - still trying to really comprehend what was happening - only nodded in understanding. 

     The Ursaring, on the other hand, growled. Instinct was telling it it was time to fight for territory, this intruder was in the way, and it was eager for a fight. It took a step forward in challenge, eager to show how dominant it was. 

     Leilani watched as the Pokemon offered the Ranger its challenge, her hands on her Pokeballs in case the Ranger needed backup. he might not need it, if he can pacify it with his styler it might not even get violent. If it did he seemed more than capable. 

     Or at least she hoped he was.

     Leilani, like her team, was exhausted. A day of training in the wilds wore them all down to the bone, and the young woman could barely find the energy to make her way back down the trails towards town. Lei wiped her brow, and looked up at the setting sun. It’d been a long day, but they were that much stronger for it, albeit barely in any condition to battle at the moment. 

     As dusk started to slowly set into evening she thought of Unova’s wildlife, how some of the bigger, and stronger, Pokemon came out at night, and reached down into her bag for a repel. When she could not find any, she swore under her breath. 

     “I should hurry before someth-” and before she could finish her thought she was cut off by a low growl, and loud rustling in the brush nearby. Leilani froze, her Pokemon were in no condition to fight, and as a large Ursaring came stomping out of the treeline she knew running was a stupid move. 

     The larger ursine Pokemon’s eyes met hers, and she swallowed, and everything seemed to stand still. This was the worst possible time to have near fainted Pokemon and no Pokeballs whatsoever. 

      In seven and  a half years of training, shed never been in a situation this dangerous because of her own stupidity. No balls, healing items, and no Poke dolls or anything that might ward off the large predator. 

     This was the choice, risk her Pokemon fainting, or die, slowly her hand reached for her first ball, Mudsdale had the most health, though that wasn’t saying too much. Leilani bit her lip, and planted her feet as if to show she wasn't scared. For a moment her mind wandered to the Bewear she caught back in Alola, how she wished it was here now. 

     She never got to call out her Mudsdale, the Ursaring came at her, roaring loudly as it barreled towards her! She had just enough time between herself and the beast for her Fight or Flight instincts to kick in, and she made a break for it! Lei managed some distance before she tripped over a small rock, and fell into small ditch, and pain shot up her ankle! 

     She put her arms in front of her face, ready for whatever came! Deep down she hoped her partners sensed the danger and came to her aide, but that was only wishful thinking. She closed her eyes, awaiting the painful end....

“Go on, at least put on a show if you’re going to challenge me.”

“The last guy didn’t end up so well, if you’ve heard. I admire your bravery.”

“As much as I appreciate tenacity, I don’t appreciate annoying flies interrupting my plans.”

“Now that I’ve got you, what should I do first?”

“Relax, kiddo. Not everyone’s out here for mass murder or world domination. Maybe I just wanted to take this car for a joy ride.”

“Why do you always have to ruin my fun?”

“Why did I turn bad? Why do heroes ask such inane questions?”

“You don’t need to understand me, I don’t WANT you to understand me!”

“Not everyone can be pulled into the light, hero.”
