Ali Cabbar’s newest collection, perhaps very fittingly titled “Placebo Effect,” is on display until May 10 at the Operation Room and it includes Cabbar's newest takes on major topics of public interest -- from politics to art and from football to history -- via witty references to elements of popular culture.
Ankara film festival opens
The 26th Ankara International Film Festival, organized by the World Mass Media Research Foundation, opened April 22. The festival will feature more than 120 features and short films until May 3 at the Ankara Büyülü Fener Movie Theater.
Concert in memory of Armenian intellectuals

Camera Ottomana: Photography and Modernity in the Ottoman Empire
“Camera Ottomana: Photography and Modernity in the Ottoman Empire, 1840 – 1914” explores one of the most striking aspects of the close connection between photography and modernity in the specificity of the Ottoman Empire.
The exhibition mainly consists of albums and archival materials from Ömer M. Koç Collection and a wide selection of photographs from the albums commissioned by the Sultan Abdülhamid II. Camera Ottomana can be visited until August 19th at the RCAC’s Gallery.
Artist Ali Emir Tapan offers vistas from ‘Another World’
For İstanbul-based contemporary artist Ali Emir Tapan, “There is Another World” -- one that is full of various connotations, created by taking objects from the real world and making them objects that can only exist in dreams.
“There is Another World” is the title of Tapan's newest solo exhibition that opened late March at the Galerist art gallery in İstanbul. This is the second solo show by Tapan at the Tepebaşı-based gallery following 2013's “Perfect Day.”
Madagascar Live in Istanbul
The live theatrical show, “Madagascar Live,” will be in Turkey once again on April 18.
The huge production, which recently visited Bursa, Istanbul and Ankara as part of its world tour, will be on stage at the Volkswagen Arena.

The ‘Shoes’ exhibition at Sadberk Hanım Museum
The current exhibition on at the Sadberk Hanım Museum gives visitors a slice of Ottoman life – more specifically, what the Ottomans wore on their feet. Well-laid out over three rooms, visitors can get up close to the magnificent selection of 127 shoes, slippers, boots and clogs, made in bold colours, lush fabrics and decorated with painstaking detail.
Ertuğrul exhibition opens in Istanbul
The Istanbul Naval Museum is hosting a new exhibition, displaying more than 500 of 8,300 items that have been unearthed during excavation works on the Ertuğrul Frigate, an Ottoman military ship that sank off Japan in 1890.

The Phantom of the Opera at Zorlu Center PSM
The Phantom of the Opera is coming to Zorlu Center PSM from Wednesday 8 April till Sunday 26 April. The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius known only as 'The Phantom' who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. As the longest running musical on Broadway, the show recently celebrated its 25 year anniversary and has won more than 50 major theatre awards, including seven Tony Awards.
