Thinking about Guinevere again and how I don't think u can separate her from the fall of Camelot. Like a thing like that blots your copybook forever. Even in the nunnery, she must've been praying for God to end her torment, to stop herself from weeping constantly, to just dampen her emotions so she could try and live with this whole in her heart, this open wound, this stigmata she's got that she can't get back.

I wonder when she and Lancelot crossed paths again after all those years once he'd taken her to the nunnery, after everything that had happened, after her damming everything up in her heart, if it all broke open again like a winter frost being carved into.

She's one of the final remnants of a bygone age. A jewel in a casket. Something to be picked over. Admired and castigated for her follies in one fell swoop.

She's a white phantom.

Nothing.

Everything.

He wasn't her King, she desperately tried to tell herself that. But the more he spoke of his ideals and the 'world' the more agitated she grew.

"And what of the Queen? Who desperately called for help but was ignored every time until it was too late? Did you listen to her wishes? Or was she not a part of this world that you were desperately fighting for?"

Did he know of the Berserker version of herself that wanders Chaldea? The poor girl who was burned at the stake simply for loving a man when her own husband could not because he was so focused on his 'people' and the justice they deserved for being deceived by a witch.

"I envy you, being this selfless that all you can see is the bigger picture and never the smaller pieces that are crumbling around you. I don't know what happened to your Queen, but I lived through the fall of Camelot. I witnessed each brick crumble and fall as everything you sacrificed for crumbled into nothing. And all I could wonder if this was all worth it, was it worth losing everyone? Even now I still think my answer is no."
