a quest for an extensive, searchable blinkie collection

hi im trying to build an easily searchable blinkie archive based on color, theme, size, etc.

after a while of collecting im gonna make a mega-list using one of my tumblr pages on desktop

maybe that page itself will be searchable if im smart enough

general tag guidelines:

every prominent color

blinkies over 150px wide are tagged "oversized"

anything with blinking movement is tagged "flashing," jpeg blinkies (if you can call them that) are tagged "still"

blinkies meant to pair/be displayed together are tagged "blinkie set"

general nouns typically tagged in plurals (video games, bands, songs, movies, etc.)

specific franchise or name of something will be tagged but not each individual character

similarly, animals, nature, and zodiac will be tagged, but not the specific animals, landscapes, or signs. some standouts of nature like clouds, stars, and flowers will be tagged.

name will be standardized (mlp will always be mlp, not my little pony)

i REALLY would like to tag more extensively and cover all my bases but tumblr maxes tags out at 30. why tumblr? uh theres a lot of blinkies on here and im too dumb to code

I am happy to formally post about BlinkieWiki (@ https://blinkie.wiki ), a website built on TiddlyWiki & hosted on NekoWeb that's an (ongoingly) searchable archive of blinkies as well as other types of graphics! A big goal here on top of exhaustive transcription is to source the original creators of graphics whenever possible, something which is often missing in collections.

I've mostly been doing this solo so far with lots of help from my boyfriend @vesselvindicate for finding websites. I'm opening this up to the blinkie community because I've now added a way for users to submit metadata for graphics, which is handled through Google Forms. That way, anyone can contribute to the collection! Just click on any blinkie and hit the button in the top right corner that says "Submit metadata for this graphic".

This site is a big work in progress! It is only somewhat mobile friendly at the moment and is prone to lag. The UI in places is a bit ugly, but I'll be making it look better over time. There's a bunch of other features I'm aiming to add as well.

This was heavily inspired by the Geoblinkies project by blinkies.cafe, which I helped work on back in 2022. You should check it out!

this process has admittedly been kinda random, just cause trying to cover EVERYTHING is a task and a half (and admittedly ive been skipping quite a few blinkies.cafe ones for the time being...), so my bias tends to prefer just doing random posts

but i think i have found a method to go back in time, i might try to see what the oldest posts are i can find first. just to dig some up.
