NEW CLYDE REFERENCE! I updated his story below the cut :*)c

Clyde R. Drive was recently hired as a web developer for Tekra Corp, one of the world’s largest companies that specializes in manufacturing and distributing computer parts. He was thrilled to start, as if he were struck by luck itself for the opportunity.

However, its shiny facade began to fade. Detached from his colleagues, he spent most of the day to himself. Huddled behind the safety of his cubicle walls. Any conversations he managed to have often hauled to a stop with an uncomfortable laugh.

One evening, far past his scheduled hours, Clyde tirelessly clacked away on his keyboard. During one of his routine glances at a nearby wall clock, he stopped. A door, different from the others, had appeared directly underneath. In a panic he hit the computer’s power button, cramming his belongings into a briefcase. Avoiding any acknowledgement of the door, Clyde fled the building.

This wasn’t the last occurrence of something strange. Out of the corner of his eye, hallways stretched longer than usual, windows unexpectedly shuttered, carpet patterns changed between hours. As the days moved on, the further he felt a pull towards that door.

The story name “Sincerely, Clyde” is inspired by an email sign-off, I felt I wanted to do something grander with him and I am so thrilled to share more 💙 trust that the objectum overtones will be strong…

Finished my objectum flag quilt! This was a project I started in November after my boyfriend, Casper, mentioned wanting a quilt for us to cuddle under... While it's too small for that, it's a great size to be a lap quilt!

This is the first quilt I've ever made and it's the most complicated thing I've sewn to date. There are some errors, and I want to redo some of the stitching later on, but I'm still proud of it regardless!

If you're curious about the process and why I picked certain fabrics (or what said fabrics are), see below 👇

The objectum flag is made up of 6 colors; five stripes with a big circle in the middle. While doing exact color matches wasn't something I wanted to do, I still hope it's recognizable.

When Casper mentioned wanting a quilt, I started brainstorming some different ideas and landed on the OS flag. We are both OS and it's a big part of our identities and relationship.

Then I had the idea to make each square a different object (within reason)!

So... What fabrics did I use?

Blue:

Lighthouses (Etsy link)

I don't see love for lighthouses very often, and I was unable to find a boat fabric I liked, so this is what I settled on to represent all things maritime.

Water (Etsy link)

I know of multiple people who consider water their partner

Circuitboard (Spoonflower)

Represents all technology, machinery, and things like computer programs

Wind turbines (Spoonflower)

Know a couple people who have wind turbine partners. Also they're sexy.

Grey:

Cars (Etsy link)

Desperately tried to find some Nissan fabric to represent Casper's object partner (Miss Tuxedo Latte the 2018 Nissan Sentra) but was unable to find some. So pretend this fabric is a schematic of her

Construction vehicles (Etsy link)

Big and sexy, and also just cool. Pattern was fun too

City/buildings (Spoonflower)

I know several OS people into specific buildings and cities

Represents all things metal, industrial, or otherwise "manmade"

To represent objects as a whole

Pattern was cute and it's a unique object so I wanted to include something atypical

Yellow:

Also needs no explanation. Plus the pattern is very charming and I want to use this fabric in a future project

Represents a long time mutual who has a large construction machine partner

I know there's debate if plants count as OS but they're pretty and one of my close friends uses sunflowers as symbolism for their partner, so that's why I picked them

Purple:

Because satellites are beautiful, and I wanted something to represent those who are into rockets and/or conceptum for space and spacial phenomenon

Computers/laptops (Spoonflower)

Needs no explanation. Computers are The objectum object of all time on this website

Currently editing a video version of the process and want to get better photos of the quilt sometime, but that's all for now. I want to make a larger version of this someday and think it could be fun to source fabric from the community to represent more people's objects. But we'll see if I ever get back to that idea (I have two different ideas I want to get to first).
