The Once and Future King

Arthur Pendragon is the foster child of Sir Ector. He was left to the care of the Knight after his mother's death when he was only three years old. Since then he has been training to be a squire for his foster-brother Kay, a future knight. He's a bit clumsy, and tends to accidentally get in trouble more often than not, but he's very kind, understanding, and accepting of others, and makes a very loyal friend... Oh, and don't feel bad about calling him "Wart," everyone does.

You don't?  Gee that's too bad... How are you supposed to fight for your honor?  Or does someone else fight for your honor?  Or do you not like fighting?  That's fine too.  Plenty of people don't.  Say it's an old fashion notion or somethin'.

I'm helping Sir Kay train for the next tournament!  There's a pretty big prize, and Sir Ector says he better win it so we can finally fix that leaky roof in the West Tower, so he's gotta be real prepared for it.  It's mostly sword work and jousting, nothing he can't handle.  Oh sure, I don't see why you couldn't come watch!  He's really good, he'll win it for sure!

Oh Snow, we've been over this!  I'm not the knight, that's Kay!  Uhh, Sir Kay.  And he's shapin' up to be a pretty good one too!  I'm honored to just be by his side.

In the Hundred Acre Wood | Open

It seemed as though all the blue birds in the forest had gathered to hear Snow White sing, and they answered her high pitched call with a song of their own. The peasant girl walked alone, and though her cousins didn’t like her to wander around by herself, they were assured that as long as she stayed in the forest no harm would come to her. The animals would make sure of it. 

She walked with purpose, chin tilted high, every step confident. Normally she would love to stay and chat with the animals, to cuddle the bunnies and play hide and seek with the squirrels. But today she had a very special place she wanted to visit, a place she hadn’t gone to see in awhile. So instead of pausing every time a raccoon tugged at her skirt or a baby deer peeked through the bushes, she paused and blew it a kiss and smiled an apologetic smile. 

As she walked she sang of love, and the delight of having friends, and of spring.

Although Arthur liked his job as a squire very very much, he was glad to have the occasional day off from any duties around the castle.  It was a clear, sunny day, something that he certainly found a relief after the long freeze they had endured for so long.  He dressed early, took a few slices of bread and butter for his breakfast, and headed out for a long walk in the forest with the dogs, intent on enjoying the sunshine while he could.

It wasn't long before a familiar song met his ears.  Although the sound was faint it made his heart skip a beat, something which he attributed to the fact that he hadn't seen his best friend in what felt like an age.  He followed the sound as best he could, tossing a stick for the dogs to fetch as he did.  They would chase after it happily then bring it back to him, nudging his hand with their snouts until he tossed it again, and every so often jumping to lick his face and causing him to laugh.

It wasn't long before he spotted his closest friend in a clearing, surrounded by the usual forest animals who were always attracted to her song.  The dogs ceased their whining for the stick in Arthur's hand.  Their ears perked at the sight and sound of Snow, and they bounded happily in her direction.  Arthur stood and listened for a moment before clearing his throat, alerting her to his presence.  "Hiya Snow," he said, a small smile forming across his lips.  "What're you doin' out here all alone?"

Oh uhh, okay!  Once upon a time there was a kid named Wart, and he noticed that a lot of people were actin' kinda funny on Valentine's Day.  One thing I-- he really noticed was there's this uhh, well there was a squirrel following him around all that day!  Ever since he walked outside!  It was pretty strange, I gotta say... And then every time I-- I mean, he has gone outside since, it's still followin' him around! It's pretty weird, don'tcha think?

And surely you think romantic thoughts sometimes? About meeting a lovely princess? Living happily ever after?

Oh... Well... I guess it's okay then.

N-no!  No, I don't, not a bit!  Besides, I wouldn't get to marry a princess anyway -- That's only princes and lords and knights and stuff.  Not that I would want to marry a princess... Think of the responsibility!  I'm just not cut out for royalty.  Anyway, I can live happily ever after without a princess!

It was so nice, spending time with my family at home. You know, I hardly get to see them since they go to the mines every day and come home so, so tired! But there was so much fun, dancing and singing, and I made them all new sweaters! Oh, and Chief Powhatan sent some very nice people all throughout the Hundred Acre Wood to hand out food, so we managed to have enough to eat? Isn’t that lovely?

Ohhhhh Grumpy’s the only grumpy one, but I think he even had fun. Well, as much fun as he’ll allow himself. 

I wish you could have been there. I wish everyone could have!

Wow, that doesn't sound too bad at all!  I was worried, ya know... I was up in DunBroch for most of it, and that wasn't too bad, even if I couldn't understand some of 'em half the time... But I'm real glad to be back home with the dogs, they sure seemed like they missed me!  Oh!  That's awful nice of the Chief!  People all seemed to be really courteous to each other during the storm, don'tcha think?  Real supportive of one another's plights, and what not.

The way you're talkin' about it, I wish I was there too!  Sounds like you really made lemonade outta those lemons.

Now that most of the snow has melted Kay can start training again, and Sir Ector says that it won't be long now before he's knighted!  Plus, there's no more gingerbread men running around the castle, school's started up again, and I haven't gotten a single demerit yet this week!  Granted it's only Monday, but things are really lookin' up!
