The silence of 2019
I’m not going to assume that I am important enough for you to have all be wondering where I’ve gotten to this week, but I’ve noticed that the annual uptick in notes has happened despite my absence. Don’t worry I’m still here, but this blog is sitting 2019 out for a few reasons.
The first one is personal and pretty simple, my university have been as kind as ever and I’ve only just finished my exams and I’m a husk of a human being. The effort of making content right now really is really just too much, I need my sleeps.
The second is where things get a little subjective; some of you might remember that back in 2017 I said I wasn’t excited about the contest; well spoiler it’s happened again. I’ve listened to the album about half a dozen times and if I am honest I’m hearing white noise. There are maybe two or three songs which stand out for me but the rest of them just fade into the background. As far as I’m concerned this has been a bad year. Just look at the quality of the first semifinal, Måns even said it wasn’t good. To be fair that which qualified was probably the right ones to go through but unlike so many previous years I am struggling to think of someone who deserved to go through but didn’t because there wasn’t enough space.
Finally, Israel. Don’t worry I’m not going to get wildly political here, but suffice it to say, my politics has issues with the government of Israel and many of their policies. So, ultimately having thought about it, while I won’t be boycotting watching the contest (what’s one view in hundreds of millions?) it feels wrong to me to profit off, albeit in social media “influence”, a contest held in Israel.
The good news is I will be back next year (unless I finally get to go) because hopefully the music will be better and I can promise you my energy levels will be higher. Until then, enjoy the contest and enjoy the music.
