You Have No Idea What I Am Capable Of

           this is how two people like them , sharing this kind of past , are supposed to  part  &  go their own ways. for good. so, why is it that emma can’t find it in herself to move and leave when it’s all she’s wanted ever since stepping foot in storybrooke. hell, all she’s done this entire time was trying not to murder the other woman whenever emma saw her, and now ? now, she can’t leave regina’s presence when she couldn’t even stand it two days ago ?   so, what has changed ? she exactly knows what. 

       ❝ now, that we’re finally being honest with each other, i can finally say …   ❞  a huge amount of relief is  being lifted off her shoulders with being able to finally say this.  ❝ graham and i never dated. we’ve been just friends this entire time. ❞

she exhales in relief. it’s not that she doesn’t want emma to be happy –– but she can’t stand the thought of her being with anyone else. regina supposes that’s completely UNFAIR considering her own relationship status, but she hasn’t been able to squash the  j e a l o u s y  in her stomach at the thought that graham gets to touch the blonde and she doesn’t.

           “why did you tell me you were together?”

             it’s only a matter of time  before she begins to sense that her own eyes are no longer as dry either. it’s not only because she’s finally letting go of something that had been suffocating her for years, but also because of a familiar pain that comes with giving up on the same person for the second time in her life. she just hopes it’s the last.  this is not something she wishes to go through ever again. ❝  yeah, me too. but it doesn’t matter anymore, does it ?  it’s not like there’s something we can do about it. ❞

          her shoulders move in a simple shrug, eyes focusing on the floor below her feet more than on the other woman’s eyes.  ❝  for two more days. we’re leaving on sunday. ❞

                                                     don’t go.                                                                        stay with me.                                                               i love you.

                regina has so many things she wants to say in this moment, but she knows she can’t. she NEEDS to let go. for good this time. emma is in the past. there’s nothing left to talk about. she can’t do this any longer.

                             she can see emma’s tears forming, but she looks away. she                              doesn’t want to do something she’ll regret. something like                              kiss her again. to throw away everything she and robin have.

             “well i wish you all the best...”

              maybe, it’s for the better.  this is a conversation she really doesn’t want anyone to be around and overhear. especially not robin, even if it means it will probably end up with regina telling him about everything in the end. the blonde will no longer be around when that happens. she won’t care. but for now, they need to have this conversation —- one that should have happened all these years ago to save them all this trouble. 

                    ❛❛  i —– i just want to talk. about everything. before i leave.

                and it’s harder than she thought it would be. standing there, in front of regina, trying to think of something to say despite how much is there to say. ❝  i’m sorry … about everything. the way i acted yesterday at granny’s. the way i treated you … yes, i was angry but … it wasn’t right to act on something that’s in the past. ❞

               regina nods slowly and uncrosses her arms,                smoothing imaginary wrinkles in her button-                up. “thank you,” she replies. the apology is                genuinely appreciated, but regina has a little                nagging feeling in her stomach –– almost like                an apology isn’t what she wanted to hear.                                                                                but that’s just ridiculous.

“i want you to know how much i wish i could take back what i did to you,” she gently explains. “i’m so sorry for the pain i’ve caused you, emma...”

                         with a thick swallow, regina blinks a few times. she hates the feeling of tears burning in the backs of her eyes. she clears her throat and lifts her hand to toy with her necklace. “how much longer will you be in town?” she murmurs, managing to blink the tears away completely so she can look at the blonde.

                during sleepless nights, she’s  done a lot of needed thinking before she could finally face everything that needs to be sorted for once and all. but with thinking came unexpected realizations. ones that she isn’t ready to reveal. and she won’t. not with regina having the family she always wanted, not when she’s so happy despite how jealous emma had been of the one person that now makes her happy. the mayor may have ruined emma’s happiness a long time ago, but the blonde doesn’t have the heart to do the same now  —-  even if the beating organ inside of her is enveloped by feelings she considered to be long gone.

            now she is standing at the woman’s porch, but this time, without expecting a fight. this is the only key to letting go. and she is finally willing to do it after all these years.     

        ❛❛  i, um —- hey. can i —- can i come in ? i’d like to …. talk. if you have the time. but if not, that’s okay too. i wouldn’t want to keep you away from your, erm … family.

the right thing to do would be to shake her head no and close the door. emma needs to remain in her past. but instead, she replies, “they’re camping,” and steps aside, letting her ex into her home.

                              the mayor closes the door once emma’s inside.                                  “what do you want, emma?” she asks quietly,                            folding her arms and stepping further into the foyer.

           silence falls upon them, but  emma’s head is suddenly surrounded by thoughts and voices that force her to think. finally fully think about all of this without being driven by anger that would block everything else out. but now she sees it. sees the person she had become, sees how she had allowed something like this to affect her when she should have just moved on. when she should have let go of this never ending anger and finally embrace everything as it is without being constantly stuck in the past. she had wasted years of doing this and now she finally fucking sees it.

      she is still mad. yes. but maybe, it’s time to move on from this part of her life. maybe, it’s time to stop punishing the other woman when it’s fact, it’s never going to change anything.

                                           ❛❛  you’re right.  i’m sorry. 

        right now, that’s all she needs to say. she is not quite ready to talk about this just yet, but she knows they need to have this conversation before emma can go back home. right now, she just needs to think about everything with a clear mind. emma’s gaze locks with the ground as she passes by the mayor without another word or glance, quickly leaving the night air before she can screw things even more.

robin has taken roland camping for the weekend, leaving regina home alone. it’s something with which she’s perfectly content. she can have some peace and quiet for a bit. she pours herself a glass of cider and makes herself comfortable on the couch in their living room, turning on house of cards. just as the episode is coming to an end, the doorbell rings. with a sigh, the mayor finishes off her glass –– her second of the night –– and sets it down before heading for the front door. 

           after the party, regina honestly thought emma was out of her life for good. it seemed that they’d finally gotten some CLOSURE. regina had let go of her guilt, and emma seemed to have let go of her anger. yet here the blonde stands on the front porch of 108 mifflin street. 

                  “what are you doing here?” regina asks gently,                        her brow furrowed at the woman before her.

                 the thought of how wrong  this all is comes back to the surface when she feels regina’s hand somewhere where it shouldn’t be wandering at all. and the worst thing is, she loves how it feels, how it leaves her skin tingling and aching for more. aching for something she hadn’t been able to feel in years. but even that is not enough to make her continue, make things more messier than she had already made them. she just hopes it’s not too late.

          the blonde’s hand shoots up as fingers close around regina’s wrist, ripping her exploring hand away from her body. had they continued this any further, emma is more than sure she wouldn’t have been able to stop anymore. even with their lips no longer touching, the blonde stays close, breath leaving her lungs in pants against the mayor’s lips. this is the last time this happens and she has to make damn sure both of them actually understand that this time. 

                                 ❛❛  don’t break his heart like you broke mine.

                   she isn’t surprised by the abrupt end to the kiss. regina’s breathing                    heavily now, and she feels emma doing the same. she may not be                    surprised by the end to the kiss, but the words spoken next do                    surprise her.

   regina wrenches her wrist out of emma’s hand and shoves her away, moving off the wall herself as well. “well it’s your fault if i do,” she bites. “i was just going to go back inside and leave you alone like you ASKED,” she reminds the blonde. “but you just had to have the last god damn word, didn’t you?”

                                     she rakes her fingers through her hair angrily,   turning                                      away from emma.  “i wish i could go back and change                                      what i did to you, emma, but i can’t. living without you                                      for the last eight years has been my penance.   i don’t                                      need you to punish me anymore.”         she faces the                                      blonde again and shrugs. “i’m DONE.”
