Ernest Hemingway quote by ohmydeer.
And the LA food tour begins now
Hans rarely allows food in his car, but when he does, he makes sure they're @evmacaron
Oversized macaron from Lemonaide in Manhattan Beach. Texture is like a dense cake. Not quite that of a macaron. Good place for a lunch break though. Back to the grind.
Going Red.
Like a great lover, you always satisfy.
Happy Macaron Day. It's my 3rd year celebrating, and I'm doing it with swagger through an evMacaron Flash Sale - for some reason JT's "Suit & Tie" song plays in the back of my mind when I look at this picture.
100% of proceeds will be matched & donated to The Conservation Fund, a well run organization helping to conserve land in America.
Flavors include: Meyer Lemon, French Vanilla and Salted Caramel, and will be sold at $2.50 each.
Eat well & support a great cause.
The weekend blew me away. I visited my old college stomping grounds, and what I expected to be a nice and simple weekend turned out to be ridiculously wonderful. I'll just leave it at that - and of course w/some obligatory food pictures. Top two are from Goshi's/Tsrugi's (my favorite Japanese restaurant), and the bottom two are from Cass Winery.
Weekend cooking adventure: Ninoko Nabe (aka Mushroom Hot Pot). 4 types of mushrooms, spinach, napa cabbage, homemade dashi broth, tofu and soba noodles. Perfect healthy meal on a cold night
El Sancho’s chile verde in Tahoe = best meal ever after 6 hrs of straight snowboarding. And a steal at $8.50
Happy Valentines Day! Check out what evMacaron got in the mail today.
But please, never call a macaron a "cookie" - it's just wrong.
Gung Hay Fat Choy & Happy Chinese New Year!
The Dragon is making way for the year of the Snake. Last year, I clearly remember feeling the year of the Dragon would bring significant changes into my life, and I was right. Here are some of my favorite:
Officially becoming an Innovation Catalyst
Getting a promotion
Getting engaged
Watching some of my BFF's get married to wonderful people
Becoming an aunt
Doing 2 pullups in a row (the "real" kind)
Having fun with food - making macarons, crying over macarons, videoing macarons, making good food, taking pictures of food, taking a food writing class, making an ever growing list of blog topics
Being bolder, and making changes I've been afraid to... ya, this one's a biggie
This year, I'm predicting the Snake will bring a year of growth - specifically around love, my passions & interests, and just me.
Here's to another wonderful year. Gung hay fat choy everyone. Wishing you the best for the year of the Snake.
Stuffing My Face
I love food. I'm sure that's not new news for you. But what happens when I gorge indulge? My brain goes blah, and a range of emotions & feelings sloth around between my ears - feelings of being fat, tired, happy, grossed-out, only-slightly-humorous, satisfied yet not satisfied, bloated....I could continue.
So what's a California girl to do? Last weekend, I lounged in my oversized grey sweats and watch a few episodes of It's Always Sunny. Did I mention I ate nearly an entire pizza? In my defense, it was extremely thin crusted and completely home-made. No processed foods allowed.
To compensate for my love of food, I am rigorous about my health during the week - and that involves food & exercise. It's simple. I eat the right amount of healthy food (most of the time), and try to exercise 4-5x/week. I could sleep more, but that's another story.
In the end, I know I can do a lot better... but what's life if you never stuff your face?
49ers are going to the Super Bowl!!!
Hello Piccino. I've missed you. Have you missed me?
It’s 7:53 am, and I’m ready to cry when I see the line, 17 people deep. My coveted sleep-in-Saturday morning was wasted. The last thing I am capable of doing is shivering in line for 45 minutes. Nine minutes later the doors open, and I’m relieved to find seats open at the counter. I hope my friends haven’t set my expectations too high, telling me I would love the crispy potatoes at Plow in Potrero Hill. After the server promptly pours the coffee ($3.75), I open my eyes to take in the scene. The grey-green paint, white trim, black knobs and hooks transport me into a Restoration Hardware catalog. The servers smile and don’t seem to mind my mismatched outfit and messy pony-tailed hair – I love not being judged on Saturday mornings. With front row seats to see the bacon popping, eggshells cracking and potatoes frying, we are ready to order. The SO goes for the Plow ($15), which includes nearly everything on the menu: bacon, lemon ricotta pancakes, crispy potatoes and eggs. The bacon is extra crispy and the lemon zest extra zesty. The eggs are runnier than anticipated, so order them slightly firmer than you want. My egg sandwich ($13.50) oozes out golden creamy yolk after my first bite, and the diced potatoes crunches satisfyingly under my knife, revealing soft, cottony insides. And let's not forget the fresh-squeezed orange juice ($3.75). The pulp speaks for itself. Like the potatoes and everything else at Plow, it’s worth getting up early any Saturday for this.
