🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does you like? do they listen to music very often?
Taking a mental note of her floor and suite, Kennedy acknowledged with a nod. "Gotcha." Since they were heading to the same place anyway, she figured she'd stay close by the other girl as they went up another flight of stairs. Just in case another one of her belongings fell out of her grasp and gave the floor a big hug. "I mean, don't get me wrong: I love an ambitious mover. But yeah, sometimes taking on less is like, the move." She gave a lighthearted roll of her eyes. While it's something she's learned over the years, it's not something she's practiced very well. But hey, Junior year. Maybe third time's the charm. "No apologies necessary," Kennedy assured, offering a warm smile. "This is actually the most exciting part of my day so far, so. Happy to help."
"i needed you like.. an hour ago. that would've been helpful to hear then," she joked, continuing their trip up the stairs and trying to push past the guilt of having kennedy carry her things with her. "oh, no way. well, in that case, i'm happy to provide entertainment." when they finally reached peyton's suite, she turned to look at her new friend and with a wide grin, she spoke, "i don't know how to thank you for this, truly. let me get you lunch and then, maybe i can let you beat me at bowling."
"I moved from our dorm to the library. This is my change of scenery." Kennedy let out a groan before bowing her head into her folded arms. The dramatics lasted all of three seconds, with her tilting her head back up to look at Omer again not long after. "Have you had lunch yet?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at him. "Maybe food is my way out of this." Calories was energy, right? She had half a muffin and three sips of her peppermint tea this morning. She definitely needed a pick-me-up.
"oh, you've got it bad BAD," he chuckled, quickly packing up everything he brought with him knowing it was time. neither of them would be able to focus right now, anyway. "i haven't, actually, and i think so too. in the mood for anything specific? there's a place nearby that makes fantastic wraps sometimes i salivate at the thought," he joked, growing hungry by the minute as if acknowledging it made it finally click in his brain.
THE O.C. ( 2003 - 2007 ) ↳ season 2 episode 9
You guys are up to something.
What's that saying... all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy? Has society ever considered changing that to: all work and no play makes Kennedy a very sleepy girl? It was her own fault, really. Taking on too much. Letting loose too little. They may have just come back from summer break, but as someone who spent most of the summer working, she might as well not have taken a break at all. "How early is too early to experience burnout?" Kennedy asked a nearby student, looking away from the laptop screen in front of her. "The first week of school is definitely too early, right?"
to anyone just walking in, the sight of omer's laptop open before him with a textbook laid out on the table and a range of highlighters and pens neatly placed next to it — it looked like he was studying hard. in reality, he'd picked up his phone countless of times to see if he could find an excuse to ditch the books. a voice nearby pulled him out of his haze and far away enough from his phone. he turned to looked at her, her words earning her a grin out of him. "there must be one hell of a comeback arc waiting for you if you've hit your burnout this early," he joked, leaning back in his chair to stretch out his back. he knew how she felt though, considering his senioritis was kicking in. "sounds like you need a change of scenery."
"okay — top three horror movies. and i will be judging, harshly." ending up at the same screening at the timber creek theatre had led river and nora here, nestled at a cheap spot to eat at rocky point. they were sporadically picking at their fries, to engrossed in the current conversation to focus on food. / @evphcrias
"you know i'm pretty convincing so prepare to change your mind anyway," nora started, waving her fry in the air with every word she spoke as she organized her thoughts in her head. there was nothing she loved more than a back and forth about films. "first, we have scream — and i know what you're gonna say, 'but that's not horror, nora', and i understand but it's such a classic it can not be dismissed. the realism to it is what makes it kind of fun, even if the jumpscares are cheap and predictable," she stated, seemingly speaking in one long breath before she continued again. "nightmare on elm street — because the idea of not being able to sleep is insane to me." she paused to take a small bite out of her fry, "and lastly, the blair witch project and solely because it's so meta, it has to make it into my top three. with a final bite of her fry, she smirked. "did i pass?""
rowan was in no position to elicit laughter at the expense of peyton's struggles when he himself had his manly physique bruised earlier today having been given up halfway on his move to the blue den. but as he grabs the box gestured to him along with the scattered pieces he had taken with him , a teasing smirk plays on his lips as he meets peyton. "you're seriously not thinking of carrying all of that in one trip , are you? i know you're in the presence of a god , but even i rested." he releases a sigh as soon as he was finished relishing on the amusing display and grabs more boxes from her control ... or lack thereof. "how many cups of caffeine have you consumed today, peyton? one , two , ten? it's too early to be in that phase , don't you think?"
peyton should've known rowan wouldn't make it so easy for her but at his mere presence, she relaxed instantly and it was only then that she realized how tense she'd been the entire day. "oh no, do i hear an excuse already for when you get too tired of carrying all my shit and suddenly announce a second trip is necessary?" she questioned teasingly, the weight of the box she could barely hold together lifted as soon as rowan stepped in. "not with the caffeine shaming this early, ro, it doesn't count today and you know that. though, i think i've hit a wall and it doesn't seem to be working anymore. i broke it. i broke caffeine."
Kennedy knew this struggle and she knew it well. She was guilty of doing it her first year at Timber Creek. She wasted no time bending over to snatch this item or that, the trail of belongings leading her to their owner. "I've got you," she assured the other girl, leaning down once more to collect the item that just fell. "What room are you in? Or I'll just follow your lead. And catch anything else that falls — scout's honor." She was nothing if not absolutely helpful at all times after all, to friends and strangers alike. "You know, no one likes to hear this, but there's no shame in making a second trip. Or even a third." Though there may be shame in a fourth one. At that point, it's just an excess of belongings and inefficient packing.
"third floor, second suite," peyton adjusted the weight of the box in her hands as she prepared to go up another flight of stairs. "which, i'm realizing is a bit ridiculous to expect to make it up three floors with this many things unscathed," she was practically inviting chaos, thinking she was being efficient instead. "one and done was the ultimate dream but i think i gotta lower my expectations sometimes. thank you, by the way, i'm sorry you got dragged into this."
if giselle could go back in time, she would request to have a suite on the first floor. the whole act of unloading boxes and suitcases and dragging them up to the third floor was burdensome, to say the least. opting for a lighter load this round, giselle walked down the hall, eyes following the breadcrumb - like trail of objects to the person responsible for the belongings. a face from her past turned towards her. "oh, um - yeah, of course!" she stumbles out, moving her small box under her arm. "hand me the box. i should be able to juggle both of them." her hand out to take the item from the other. "do you need me to take anything else or can you get the rest?"
at the sound of the familiar voice she was used to hearing frequently once upon a time, peyton's breath caught in her throat. a beat or two later, she let out a shaky laugh and watched as giselle moved to help. "i'm so sorry, i don't know what i was thinking — " she started, feeling the overwhelming need to explain herself to her old friend. "a miscalculation on my part, maybe, but uh, no - no! that should be good," she nodded, not wanting to inconvenience her longer and picking up the items left behind. "thank you, i was this close to dropping everything. i hope your move has been smoother than mine."
emiliano entered his junior year with nothing more than a suitcase filled with his finest attire and a few boxes containing his essential belongings, embodying a simplicity that defined him. having effortlessly transported all his belongings in just two trips, leaving him with the leisure to casually wander through dorms, on the lookout for friends or anyone in need of assistance. if there was any he anticipated encountering with a trail of scattered items in the halls, it would undoubtedly be peyton. she had consistently carried an air of stress since he’s first met her, yet he considered her a good friend nonetheless. recognizing her amidst the chao, he didn’t hesitate to extend a helping hand, swiftly collecting whatever she had dropped. ❝ already on it, ❞ he reassured, a pile of items cradled in his hands. ❝ put the box down; i’ll come back for it. ❞ as they made their way back to their suite, a moment of silence hung between them. emiliano broke the quietude, asking, ❝ why did you try to carry it all by yourself, anyway ? ❞
peyton was way past regretting trying to juggle everything in one trip. in a matter of minutes, she felt as if she'd gone through five different emotions only to land at one; mortification. asking for help was already a struggle for peyton enough as is and if she let her mind linger on it too long, she started to feel embarrassed for taking up space and being a nuisance. deciding not to feed into her thoughts today, she eyed emiliano as he picked up all of her scattered items with ease and followed into their shared space. "i'll be honest with you, i didn't really think it through," she admitted, leaving out the part where she knew everything couldn't stay put for the entirety of her walk yet was too stubborn to accept she would need help if she wanted to get things done quickly. "in my defense, the overflowing tower of items seemed like it would hold up really well."
all of giselle's stuff laid scattered around her room, not wanting to waste her time on the boring chore of putting things away. instead, she was more interested in catching up with her best friend. grabbing the item that she had been searching for, she made her way out of her room, down one floor, and to nora's room. she loudly tapped at the door and waited for the blonde to appear. "want to sneak into the ice rink?" she asked, holding up her skates. @evphcrias
there was nothing more dreadful than the first couple of days of settling in — when all the boring tasks needed to get done, nora ran into all the people she specifically did not want to see and the fact that classes were starting was slowly digesting. so when the familiar knock of her best friend sounded through the room, she rushed to pull the door open with the widest grin on her face. "you speak my language so well, gi, it's honestly so sexy." nora grabbed her own pair of skates, shutting the door behind her and falling into step with her. "anything interesting happen today yet? i had an entertaining morning myself."
MEMES!
if someone were to ask, peyton would easily lie about how many coffees she'd already had today. she didn't want to admit it but deep down, she knew she overdid it. her defense? she needed it. so it was no surprise she was felt a little jittery and was starting to panic a little. there were a few things she'd forgotten to bring in from her car and in an attempt to get it all in one trip, she accidentally left a trail of her belongings scattered in the hallway leading to her room. she was trying to balance everything out when a pair of footsteps was heard behind her and she quickly turned, not missing the way something else just fell out of the box in her hand, and smiled at the face in front of her. "could you, uh, maybe..." she didn't know how to explain herself and knew she probably looked a mess. the word she was looking for was help, but it was hard to get it out. "just a few things over there or uh, maybe you could.. hold this for a second?" she gestured to the box in hand, unsure what to do.
" sorry! " sophie shouted before slamming the door to her shared room shut, expression a mix of mortified and disgusted as she turned to a familiar face, " hey! you want to grab a drink? i have a mental image i DEFINITELY need to forget. first few rounds, on me. "
having been used to her own space, adjusting to sharing a room was something nora knew would be difficult. what she was not expecting was someone coming home early enough to catch her and.. was his name harry? she wasn't sure. the shots kept coming in the night before and she could've sworn he looked better then, but the bar lights had a way of making him somewhat digestible. she hurriedly put on her clothes again and urged harry, or whatever his name was, to do the same and leave. a hand smoothed down her hair before opening the door. "you know, i take offense to that," nora started, interrupting the conversation and leaning against the door frame as she watched harry scurry outside with his clothes in hand. "i mean, maybe he was a little questionable." she shrugged, eyeing her new roommate. "not my finest moment and i can't promise it won't happen again, but as a peace offering, drinks are on me today."
this quote from some kind of perfect will live on in my mind and heart since it perfectly captures why rose calloway is my role model
