Cassandra Cain propaganda!

One of the most fascinatingly complex characters to me. She both loves and hates her abuser (her father who essentially trained her to be a weapon and nothing else to the point where she didn’t understand language because he didn’t allow her to have access to it or pretty much anyone else she wasn’t beating up). Killed someone as a child and was so horrified by it she ran away from her father, the only person she knew or cared about, and drifted. Incredibly repressed character. A lot of her character growth is working through things that happened to her and it feels like pulling teeth. Keeps having to decide it’s worth living and gets into death matches with her mom. (She literally had to hallucinate her presumed dead best friend to muster the will to keep going in one fight.) She believes in the value of human life so intensely and is so flawed but a lot of the fandom reduce her down to “badass supporting character who fights and does emotional labor for the other Batfam characters” when quite honestly she struggles to do her own. It doesn’t help that canon also flipped on her and threw her character away. This is a character who wants to be the next Batman! And she’s almost always either missing from the story entirely or reduced to a supporting character lacking depth.
