Madoka takes a step back from the edge as he sees Kyo run into the building, hesitating, contemplating simply forcing himself over the edge, continue on with the plan, before he steps back again. And again. And again.

He jumps when the door slams open behind him, turning around to see Kyo; his expression, for once, gives way to shock. “K-kyo–”

“ you - you said you - “ his voice shuts off, and he lets out a choked noise, fingers tightening in madoka’s shirt as he shoves him into the nearest wall. his face drops until it’s buried in the other’s chest, tears wetting the fabric.

There’s nothing he can do except wrap his arms around Kyosuke and hug him tightly. There’s no words he can say that could help (and even if there is, Maeda isn’t capable of saying them), and even the simple act of hugging him seems weak and pointless. But it’s all he feels he can do. 

he buries his face in maeda’s shoulder, sobs wracking his entire body as his fingers tangle in the back of the other’s shirt.

it’s ugly.

kyo is, generally, so composed, but the feeling of tightness in his chest as he clutches, white knuckled, at his shirt, hyperventilating and wheezing, is hard to ignore.

just minutes ago, he’s had to face his best friend trying to kill himself, and not for the first time.

he shakes, fingers and hands unstable as he tries to breathe, tries to calm himself - but the tears keep coming. he digs his nails so hard he breaks skin, and he lets out an ugly sob.

pain radiates in all of his body, but the worst is the clenching ache in his chest, the beating of his heart as he breaks - stress and pain and hurt and maybe betrayal all fighting at him.

he breaks.

gently places a flower crown on kyo's head. admires kyo & the handiwork, nodding to himself in satisfaction.

he blushes, fingers rising to gently press against the flower crown now on his head.
