“Rome! My old man! Or dude or ... whatever. Come here!” He spread his arms and gave the other man a firm hug. “What have you been up to?”

"You won't believe me" he says with a mysterious grin. "That's kinda why I wanted to meet up in person, heh? Isn't there this saying... drunkards don't lie?" he gives him a manly pat on the shoulder then gestures to walk with him. "See... I ehhh... I don't even know how to tell my kids. But yeah... I can trust you" he looks him in the eye a short moment before getting distracted by a billboard commercial. "I just KNOW... don't ask me how. It's something I picked up along the way in the militairy... It's somewhat of ehh... fingerspitzengefühl." His accent with english is strange enough but his German sounds even weirder. "Trust is a funny thing. You can trust one man a thing, and another something different. It's not even a point of value... you know... obviously I love my kids. I love you too... that's another kind of love. I can trust them other things... my City, for instance... You can't trust savages with THAT!... It's... it's a joke?! ha ha ... anyway... There are so many kinds of love... the english language hardly does them justice" he smiles "Don't you think that is telling?"

“Try me.” Lutz said in response with a grin. He walked with him and listened to the man talk and talk..and talk. And yes he had to snort about the savage joke. It was funny, right? But the more Rome talked, the less Lutz understood what he wanted. 

“Look man, if there is something on your mind, just spit it out.”

Rome stopped walking and he looked at him with a startled expression "Nah man... I can't just drop it..." he waved a imaginary fly away "It's foreplay... wait for it, boy. Tsssk... Big things need time to... ehh... no wait" he looked around and changed direction "There's a cute bar over there.." he was confused now too by changing subjects all the time. He laughed a little nervously "So... ehm yeah... what I'm saying is I'm laying out my lifeplan sorta kinda.. just rolling it out.. you know... like ehm becoming my true self? Just Tullus, not the empire... Anyway it makes me happy..." he's smiling brilliantly now. "I'm chasing my childhood dreams man. Listen to this." he clears his throat "I got a job, man. An actual job. I'm getting paid. My boss praises me. I'm so happy I could cry. I'm gonna do extra courses and stuff next year. I freaking LOVE this job. Ok so yeah the militairy paid better but, who cares?! Can you believe it?"

"hold on" he says as he reaches for his phone. "Look at This SHIT..." he's enthusiasm is going threw the roof as he shows him a pinterest folder.

"They will teach me how to do that. It's called tadelakt. It's Berber. It's a waterproof plaster made with lime and olive soap. It so smooth. It's crazy cool, ok? I'll make you and your girlfriend a whole new bathroom... that is... Once I got my exams and all, ok?" he takes a deep breath "If you don't like these colors, I can do others. What colors do you like?" He stops talking abruptedly and just looks at the other.

Romulus checked the sign at the airport again and sighed. DELAYED. About seven flights where canceled, for some reason. He had no idea how long this was going to take or if they would fly at all eventually. Well at least he didnt have to go look for his suitcase cause he always traveled light.

He walked around looking for a free spot to sit down. "Sorry, This seat taken?"

Dinos has sworn off drinking. Romulus still makes him once a year at Lupercalia. When Dinos get's drunk he starts to harass people and Rome needs to keep him from fighting cause if there is one thing that Dinos can take less than wine it's blows to the face.

Basically give them drinks and they turn into their shitty teen selfs again. With Romulus that means dealing with a very loud and needy attention whore. Dinos will just drop sugarcoating things and downright take whatever he wants at that point. Whether that is your carkeys or your girlfriend it's irrelevant. Some people actually like him after a few glasses. Some Girls particularly LOVE it (at first). But it also has happend that the grown boys have been thrown out a cafe, or worse, had to spend the night at the police station.

Greece, what a marvelous woman. Remus first saw her when he was still a boy. There was something about her that made everyones jaw drop. It wasn't that he had never seen a finer woman before but it was like he was struck by lightning. She didn't notice him. He told his brother everything about her and he smiled. Brother didn't care too much for girls but he understood what it was to be drawn to another so much it hurt. When they finally forced Macedonia into submission she acknowledged the Roman Republic had maybe grown to a pest she should no longer ignore. But only after the twins beat down Athens she wanted to know what brat was responsible for this. This was the first time she looked him in the eyes. They were mesmerising and judging. Her frown was deep and even that looked great on her. Remus decided they were meant to be together. The chickens agreed so did all the other signs. He checked thoroughly cause what plans he had for her and himself could shake the very earth. Augustus was convinced and they did so much to please her. Slowly but steadily he'd win her over. They wrote and they met. After the first carefull smile he got from her things went rather quick. Maybe a little too quick and careless to his liking but still... progress.

Romulus was seeing a charioteer at the time and it was bound to come out at some point to hurt the Republic... well Republic... the senate was more of a formality by now. But the people did not need a representative that played wife for another man. Remus hated to be that person to kill off his lovers. But so much was at stake here. Things greater than their personal needs. He thought it a shame to kill him off allready. He used it as a tool to make his brother do whatever he or the people needed. When the charioteer did fell at some point, mortals are so fragile after all, Remus got the blaim.

And then the unthinkable happend. Romulus couldn't take it any more and opened up to Greece. She mothered him. And overnight they became friends, or something. And that's how brother who never thought much of women slowly fell in love with her too.

They were made for eachother Greece and Remus. And for the 900th anniversary of Rome they would marry. How could she refuse?

But Greece would have none of that. Clearly Remus was an idiot if he thought she'd ever belong to one man. He didn't understand untill he found out he wasn't the only Rome she had bed.

He drank to dull the sadness and his cowardice and headed to her home demanding explanations and a formal apology. When her words left him unsatisfied he figured if he could not have her nobody should. If only he had known that bringing her child to life and politics and internal struggles had weakened her so much that this death was to stay. She should get up cause he was not done with her. He'd kill her two times more for her betrayal! But she would not get up. With his blurred mind he tried to figure out how this was even possible. How could these hands kill the one thing in life he hold so dear? Maybe if he waited a little longer? When the sun came up he left in shock and disbelief.

What sick turn of fortune was this? There was no comfort. He hated himself more than ever. He wished he could just start all over again. Either the Gods had forsaken him, or worse, just like everything else it was all just made up. He had been living a lie all his life.

“I know, right!” Rome says really happy with himself. “I saw it on a mug in a store. And it spoke to me on a spiritual level. But uhhh… I already spend all my cash so…” He sighs “I probably couldn’t have bought it anyway cause the shopkeeper threw me out”

“Idiot.” he just huffed. And here he thought he’d made that up himself. Oh well. “Why did he throw you out? Did you break something?” Unbelievable that he’s talking to his former idol as if he was a kid. Never meet your heros.

“Ofcourse not…” he said “I was high as a kite. I guess he didn’t like that so much” He pulled up his shoulders. “You know what else is deep, those eyes of yours. I guess you are super popular, no?” He pinched his cheek with a grin.

“You were high as-” But he couldn’t evne finish his sentence when the other stated such nonesense. “Aslkjf don’t do that, I’ve told you!” He smacked his hand away and rubbed his cheek. He wans’t being gentle either.

“Feisty… how cute” he grinned broadly “Yes you did tell me. I keep forgetting. Listen..” he leaned in closer “You are really beautifull, but it’s not gonna work between us. It’s not you, it’s me.” His smile was gone “please don’t be sad”

“Well, remember next time!” He said it every time but he never remembered. How did these Germans have so much patience with this man? “Wh-” now he just looked confused. “I’m… I’m not sad. And no it’d never work between us for a lot of reasons.”

He smirked "Not that we didn't do that when we were young, mind you. Young Nations have been doing that since the beginning of time"

*Caledonia is on his door step. He looks like he has tried to neaten himself up although he is still a mess. He knocks, feeling rather awkward, no projectile weapon in sight*

Rome opens the door, reeking of beer, wearing sweatpants and a morning robe even though it’s in the afternoon. “Ohh…” he looks really confused “Did.. did something bad happen? Are you ok?”

He isn’t nearly drunk enough to answer all of this at once, rome can see his annoyed by his prying “I have had my go. It is your turn” he takes a couple more shots, he needs to have more alcohol in his system to answer any more of his questions.

“Alright” he said after a drink. He was starting to feel it and it was showing now. “I bet you want to laugh at my misfortune when you hear this one.” He took a deep breath. “I never speak ill about my brother. I regard him highly. But he is a coward and lacks some serious empathy and this story illustrates it best, I think. I was send to most campaigns whereas he was into politics. Even though he has seen some fighting, he doesn’t understand a damned thing about it. He’s like a priviledged rich boy that talks about profit, honor and victory without getting his hands dirty. It’s not that I’d rather have him put up with the shit I’ve faced. But a little ‘thank you’ never hurt anyone. And a little compassion would have made all the difference…” he drinks some more “So we’re in a full blown war with the Punics at the time and they are giving us Hell. The politicians hope for swift victory cause succes is always a good point with upcoming elections. Nobody ever asks me anything. But yeah I was just 15 yo so what do I know. So we’re in the north of Italy when… Hannibal comes to kick our ass. And some idiot high officer takes the bait, ofcourse he does. So I’m choking in icy water crossing a stream on an empty stomic. And I was just SO depressed and scared and tired… and ehh…” he closes his robe tighter like he is reliving the cold. “And then I saw they brought elephants with them.” He’s taking a moment “I tried to get close to take them down, of course… then one… it… it hit me down… then threw me in the thorny bushes… and I felt… nothing… I knew I was bleeding.. I just didnt feel my legs anymore and I paniced. I couldn’t do anything. And everybody was screaming. And they… drowned them. And I just… lay still and prayed they would not find me… cause he vowed to end me. He made it personal…” he drank some more. “My brother, he said I overreacted when I got home. He said I should man up because people lost their shit when they saw my face… that I couldn’t take it anymore. I was scared to sleep, so I stayed up feeling miserable. The only one that cared, that listened to me… my teacher… he took him away. He got him killed. I felt…” he looked really sad now “I felt SO lonely”

He listens, as much as he loves to see his enemies suffer their trauma isn’t something to laugh at. He drinks puts a hand on his back, bringing him out of the past. “Your bother sounds like an arsehole. Almost all my kings and kings of kings were warriors. They all would understand that battles can’t always be won. Politicians never understand that, that’s why most of your peace makers ended up dead on our shores” he drinks again. “Being alone is awful. We are our people we need to be around them”

“He’s not. He’s better than me anyway. A better roman and a better man overall. I get why he does the things he does. I wish I could be more like him. I mean we used to look alike, a lot! People mixed us up all the time. Or they thought we were the same person… but yeah you are right we need to be around our people. Although I like being on my own I’m better around people. My brother he’s more reserved. He keeps things to himself. Being alone is fine. Loneliness is more about… you know… that you don’t have people around that relate to you. I’m just a little whack in my choice of friends. But you know after my brother got my ehmn… teacher… dead I just started to meet people I liked in secret. And that didn’t work out so great, cause I attracted the worsed kind of people. Untill ofcourse he found out about that too and… well so in short all my affairs are short lived due to that. I wanted to just pack my stuff and live somewhere else. I hoped China would have me. He’s a nation I really looked up to”

“you want to be more of a coward? Romulus I have seen you in battle, you are a fine warrior. Your brother is a fool for crippling you in such a way by removing your lovers male or otherwise” he takes a drink getting more pationate about what he is saying.

“they say you should fight for your chief or ceaser or whatever it was you had. That’s all well and good but the real thing warriors fight for are those they are protecting and want to come home to at the end of the day, for there mother or father, there sons and daughters, their wives and husbands. You remove who they fight for and they loose that fire inside them.” He may have started to get tipsy having had half a bottle more of whatever awful alcohol Rome had found in his cupboards. “I’m sure if ya brother hadn’t got rid of your fire you could have beaten me in battle if you wanted.” He finishes his glass

Rome stands up in anger after that last remark and flips the table across the room. “THEY HAD NO RIGHT!” He’s fighting his tears right now. “It was the fire of my people… it was the heart of Rome. It was older than us even. It was REAL to ME. Anyway I can beat you ANYTIME and IT’S YOUR TURN” he sat down pouting. “look what you made me do. The rum.. it’s gone”

Caledonia sighs, shame about the alcohol. “I’m sure you could.” He can see how upset he is and isn’t too sure how to calm him down, or what story could match. “we are polar opposites you know. I would worship my old god’s through water. I can remember we had these cerimonies where we would cast presious things into the waters. We would throw swords, jewels, goldwork in offering to them. I watched from the boarder of my lands as I saw my wife slow her worship of god’s that kept her safe for so long. I wanted her to remember the old ways after you left.” He is getting upset too now, trying to stay strong “I guess I pushed her too hard because she asked for Germania to help fend me off. Like I was a monster… I guess I blame myself for it all.” He takes a shakey breath, “you asked me how I felt earlier. About who I blamed. Who I was angry at. Honestly I am angry at myself, I was selfish and drove her away and she died because of it.” He rubs his eyes. “You sure you haven’t got more drinks” he tries to keep his voice from trembling

“Nah man… non alcoholic” Rome said shaking his head. He didn’t have any. And it was no use going threw his brothers shit, because he did not drink. “I got something stronger though” he said wrapping his arms around Celt, patting him on the back. “It’s not your fault. You did good. Nature just fucks us over like that. It takes a lot of guts what you did today, soldier. You put up a hell of a fight I can’t deny it.” he let him go. He felt stronger now, determinated to look after the other he set his own grief aside. “The store is just a 5 minutes walk from here. I’ll get you some… and something to eat. A guy got to eat. You like doner, big guy?”

The hug is unexpected but welcome. He manages to clear his eyes. “Denny ken what that is but I’ll try it. If ya need help carrying things I can tag along with ya, we may have been nations but your not the strongest tree in the forest” he laughs a little in effort to lighten the mood

Rome laughs loud. “How much booze do you expect me to bring?! I’m not made of money, you know, not any more. I have to slave myself for a week for a good bottle of whiskey these days.” He leaves his robe on the sofa and go’s threw a pile of clothes laying on a piano. We can also buy microwave pizza. I know how to make those!” He smiles proudly “I’d like you to tag along. If they try to get me arrested for being drunk in public you have something to laugh at. But you can also just hang around here make yourself at home. Take a bath. You know how those work, by now?”

“I’ll tag along, the boys have given me and their ma a pension what ever one of those is. All I know is that I get some coin that supposedly equals 5 cows. So I can help pay” he stands, he is still able to walk straight at least. “Gives me a chance to see new places”
