I think probably more than most things What I've been missing Has been stability I don't want to swing dance on a hurricane anymore There are tides & times for everything But you get older And want to build great big things With foundation And mortar And humility And When you feel lonely For escaping a natural disaster You know in your heart these things aren't healthy These things aren't for you But you crave them Like hummingbirds do heart attacks And everything you've ever loved and written has been fiery But you want to be full And whole And solid And sound And You can't be those things when you are on fire And that's okay You are okay This will be okay Because you remember what your last crushing 3am phone call felt like And you remember picking yourself up 3 months later And you remember loving her with every fiber of your being Until you couldn't anymore And that's what this is Lasting But only in so far as you are preserved A lighthouse standing in the cool sidecar of the ocean Because You can't bend the curve or the tide if you are rubble

"Life isn't fair, but it's still good. Life is too short-- enjoy it. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present and the future. It's OK to let your children see you cry. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. If a relationship has to be secret, you shouldn't be in it. Take a deep breath, it calms the mind. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. It's never too late to be happy. But it's all up to you and no one else. When it comes time to go after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. Burn the nice candles, use the nice sheets, wear the nice lingerie, wear the nice clothes. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. Over prepare, then go with the flow. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years will this matter?' Always choose life. Forgive but don't forget. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. If we all threw our problems in a pile and we saw everyone else's, we'd grab our's back. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you need. Yield. Friends are the family we choose. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

They have been sitting in front of me for 45 minutes. They have talked about everything under the sun: school, girls, Kobe, who has the best jumper, why Mrs. Nealscott isn't nice, how old Kevin Durant is, which color jersey they like the most, when their dad's are coming home from business, snack packs, how to perform a proper crossover, and what if Bird & Magic were still playing. Want to know the only thing they haven't talked about? Race. #WeArentBornHatingOneAnother #WeAreTaughtThatIsh

I am completely and utterly overwhelmed by all of the love today. At 26, I don't know much. There are, however, 3 things that I do know: 1) I have the most wonderful family and friends that a young man could ask for. 2) I've never felt more at peace and blessed than I do in this moment. 3) I would not be here, if it were not for all of you. Whenever you feel alone, whenever you feel like the world is too big and you are too small, remember this: You matter. Everything you do, matters. I promise. Love from the back of your chest. From the floor of your soul. Then, nothing can touch you. Thank you for everything. With a full heart, Justin

Why the Jonathan Martin incident is the Most Important conversation we will have this year:
Sometimes it takes an incident like this to remind the masses that everything isn't okay. Putting a very public face to bullying and racism. And more importantly, the ways in which we are truly equipped to deal with such attacks when we are on the receiving end. Jonathan Martin is 6'5" 312lbs. You can't punch every bully in the face. You can't body slam every racist. Trust me, I tried it for awhile. This is an important story to tell, especially as we think about: Jonathan Ferrell, Trayon Christian, Kendrick Johnson, Kayla Phillips, Trayvon Martin and so on. This is a necessary progression in the conversation.
I pray we keep talking.
I pray we keep building.
I pray we evolve.
