Question: I mainly posted drabbles unrelated to my actual fic but for the last round I actually want to post a part of my primordium fic, my question is since it will be an exact extract I would find its existence after the reveal of our long fics rather useless so are we allowed to delete them afterwards??? I totally understand if it's not allowed I just wanted to ask because then I think of another unrelated drabble to send in~

Answer: Thanks for asking! While you are technically allowed to delete your microcosm afterwards (since it's not an exchange), it will be permanently linked on the masterlist on LiveJournal, so it'll look like your story is gone (broken link). So it's up to you, but an unrelated drabble might be better. If you still want to post it and would prefer not to have the trailing broken link but don't want it visible on your ao3 works list after primordium reveals, you could perhaps transfer it to a sock account or orphan the snippet (while linking to your primordium in your summary or notes).

are writers limited to only one entry for exordium/primordium?

Absolutely not! As long as each story meets the rules (a minimum of 20k written during the official writing period, etc.), you are allowed to submit as many as you like!

is there a limit to how many fics we can post for microcosm?

Apologies for the delay in this response but to answer your question, no there is not! The only rule is that each must be no longer than 500 words, and they must be separate stories (not chapters of the same story), though they ARE allowed to be part of a series, and each story is not required to be complete.

Hi! If the_microcosm should be an exact 500 words, what if it says 500 in my document but shows a different number (e.g. 502) once posted in AO3 since it tends to count words differently?

Hello and thanks for asking! This is a tough call as we have to draw a top line somewhere, but if your document said 500 words then we’ll accept that, even if ao3 says it has a few words more than that. Once it crosses over the 510 word line though, we’ll require a screenshot for proof that the original document doesn’t exceed 500 words. Let us know if you have any further questions!

Question: I understand that we aren't allowed to crosspost our fic until everything's done and over with, but what about the drabbles and whatnot we post for the microcosm?

Answer: Those are the only exceptions to the rule! If you're posting a portion of your story for #the_microcosm, that's 100% allowed.

Question: We can crosspost once the drabbles and whatnot are public after every round or do we wait until the last round of microcosm?

Answer: #the_microcosm also can't be crossposted to another place (lj/dw/aff/wattpad/tumblr/etc.) besides ao3 until after the official end of posting, especially since you may be using portions of your exo/primordium fic, though you are of course welcome to link to your drabble from anywhere (twitter/tumblr/etc.) you like.

I noticed one of the beta/proofreader candidates has "the_EXORDIUM" in brackets, does that mean they're more reluctant to beta an exordium fic or...?

Hello! Thanks for asking! They signed up as a beta for both the_EXORDIUM and the_PRIMORDIUM but have actually filled up their writer slots. They are however willing to take on a few more writers. Since there are only a few betas for the_PRIMORDIUM, we’re prioritizing the_PRIMORDIUM writers, which is why the_EXORDIUM appears in the [] brackets, since we can’t use strikeout on only a few words in a single cell.

Answer: Hello! Thanks for asking! #the_exordium (etc.) is NOT anonymous so you can talk about your fic as much or as little as you like! We are not an anon exchange so yes, you may discuss your fic in public. :)

What does a "hand holder" beta do?

The finer details would be up to the specific writer and beta but something along the lines of providing cheerleading and encouragement/motivation.

Hi! If we sign up as betas for the Exordium, do we only help out during the revision process (in July), or will we be needed before that time?

Hello! It depends on what you select in your sign up form. Writers see how each beta lists themselves, and so if you check the “hand-holding” and “brainstorming” options, your writer will most likely be expecting you to be present along the way, even during the planning process. If you select “editor” many writers will want to be working with you during the writing process, and if you select “proofreader” then your writer will be passing you complete text, so that will most likely happen later.

\while it’s true that it will vary from writer to writer whether they need your help during the writing process, we expect there to be a rush during the revision process. If you can only help during the revision process though, make a note of it in your sign up so writers can see that. If you want to know what writers will be looking at, please look at the beta claim sheet.

I was wondering, when you refer to a 'header', are you talking about the link with a plot summary on ao3 or a preview of some sort for the story itself?

When we refer to the header, yes, we are referring to posting a placeholder story on ao3 with a title (can be temporary) and fandom, characters etc. Since we are allowing an official revision period, we understand if people are using betas and editing their story after the official end of postings, so we are only requiring that the placeholder be posted to the collection. Question: What if we're writing an EXO crossover?

Answer: You can decide whether you want to be in #the_exordium or #the_primordium or both! And the same minimum applies, 20k, it's just that you're deciding which "folder" to put your story in.

Question: Are we still allowed to sign up as a collaboration between more than one writer?

Answer: Yes definitely! Just add a note in the comments section that you might be working with someone else, and state who it is. Since the sign ups this time are by author and not by story, nothing needs to be set in stone until the official end of writing period. In addition, ao3 allows for easy co-authorship of works.

Question: I just wanted to clarify one thing to make absolutely certain although I think you already answered it I just wanted to be safe because I have big plans for this fest. (Nervous but still really excited) On twitter I asked a question that wasn't really easy to comprehend so I thought perhaps an illustration of sorts could help.

Would it be okay if I were to write a fic for your fest that had an already posted fic in the center? In your rules post is says that it can be a continuation like a second part so I was unsure because I was hoping to do something a little different. I will still write the 20k for your fest like so...

Answer: Thank you for your question, and the answer is definitely yes! As long as you write the new 20k of story (during the official writing period), you are absolutely allowed to do this for exordium.

Question: I'm thinking about joining both #the_primordium and #the_exordium But is that even allowed?

Answer: Yes! It is very much allowed. Writers sign up as writers, the number of fics they produce and whether they end up participating in #the_exordium or #the_primordium is up to the final results. The sign up form will ask which challenge you plan on joining but this is only preliminary and not in any way fixed.

Question: Because I have two plots already half way planed, it would depend though on how far I get to actually fully plan them...

Answer: As long as they qualify within the wip rules, that will be perfectly acceptable!

Question: for the check ins I personally find it hard to post a finished drabble if it's supposed to be a part of my longfic so my question is do they have to be finished or do we just need to post a snippet of your current progress?

Answer: You absolutely don't have to post a section of your longfic, #the_microcosm is purely optional! You can also chose to post something completely unrelated. It's just a way to check in and say - Hi! I'm still here! It can be as finished or unfinished as you like. It's just a more dynamic way to share progress and again, it's totally optional and you don't have to post anything related to your longfic either, it could be an outtake, or something entirely separate.
