Mini lore snippet lol: at first I just doodled the cat alone in the middle of a page, but I loved him so much I just turned the page and drew the whole thing. He's so great.

I’ve come to really love and appreciate the Xatu line, so I drew a bunch of Natus! They are so cute and round, I want to squeeze one so badly and keep it in my pocket.

oh boy... these pages were SO much fun. i really pushed myself. i think they're some of my best work, period.
page 16 was the BIG one, the money shot. i had to knock it out of the part. i had so much fun laying it out! i actually requested to more space to fill out the fight, which is why page 17 is a little cramped. the story needed a little more room to breathe, but we were very limited on pages and there was a lot to cover. 16 and 17 were challenging but i'm very happy with how they turned out. i used CSP's perspective tools for the first time on these pages and fell in love!
the first panel of 17 is one of my favorites because the contrast between sonic and mecha sonic is at its peak. it was so fun portraying each character with body language to make it clear who was who. mecha sonic in sonic's body, at the end of his rope (i affectionately call him my rat or my skrunkly :) ), and sonic in mecha's body standing tall, proud, and strong.
page 18 gave me a little reprieve before the last two pages, which i knew would be a lot harder as well. i knew people would love mecha sonic in those last two panels-- he's so cute!
page 19 and 20 were intimidating because the backgrounds and tornado were still relatively new territory for me. always use references, kids.
i wanted to include as many scrapniks as possible for the ending to really highlight the community/familial aspect. junio makes an adorable reappearance, of course! it was really fun figuring out how each of these different robots emote.
the very last page makes me emotional. i think my Miyazaki influence really shows in the third panel! i crammed as many robots as i could into that last panel!! i could have done more but i was already crunching. eagle-eyed readers can spot some OCs in there, including each of the team's characters (and a certain ex-GUN beetle!)
to summarize, i pushed myself hard, experimented, and made something i'm incredibly proud of. i've never done this much with perspective, backgrounds, and sheer number of characters before. i think it's the perfect love letter for my favorite comic of all time. thank you all for reading!!
