Welcome to My Lair!

Ugh, maybe that was too bland... Whatever. You're here now! And as my guinea pig I'll need you to read a couple things before we begin. It's part of the only rules that apply here aside from whatever I say!

I don't want anyone here under the age of 18! That goes for writers, muses, and all that junk. It's serious what I do here, and I don't need kids running around trying to destroy anything before I can get to it first.

I have a set of dedicated rules here. You'd better read over those before you submit to me. I don't want to hear any screams of agony unless I'm the one making them happen!

Finally, he could go to the human world and begin his grand experiment!

But that didn't matter. He had set the Dimension Gate himself this time, and would bein the exact place he needed to be in order to begin his subjugation. Walking into the blue portal the place he stepped out into was rather dark.

"How unexpected!" he burst out. "For the human world to be so bleak... It almost reminds me of my closet at home."

And with that, Mao waited for his eyes to adjust, and what he saw gave him pause. There was furniture here. Enough to where it looked like he was inside someone's house or bedroom.

He said it simply as if they had previously discussed the topic.

He stood himself up from where he had been working on the floor and went to the kitchen to prepare his cup, bringing it back over.

He had picked up one of the papers and frowned, mumbling something about how so and so was terrible at documenting evidence.

Another screen was opened, and more words had been typed. The boring process was repeated until the carafe was emptied and the stacks he had made all became yet another singular large stack.

He stretched, rolling his shoulders back. Taking work home always put a catch in his back that was near impossible to work out. He shut the laptop down before putting it back away.

With that denial Mao shrugged. Something about that stung, but what Akechi said was perfectly logical. What demon would willingly accept something that was gifted to him? Mao certainly wouldn't...

But Akechi was human. Maybe that was why it confused him. And he already said out loud that it was for him, so he couldn't take it back.

That was fine. He took the items without really seeing them and went out of the front door with them.

From the inside a bright flash of light could be seen and an some muffled laughter. Mao had used his Star magic on the stuff and obliterated it in a cosmic flash of light.

It's not like anyone was going to use it anyway, right?

Maybe, he figured, if he acted like everything was extremely commonplace he'd get bored and leave of his own accord.

It had to work. He was willing to give it a shot.

"If you're done doing...whatever, I'd like to discuss living arrangements."

"However, my apartment is one bedroom. You get the sofa. I won't mind if you use the kitchen as long as you keep it clean. I don't have enough time in my day to also play housekeeper."

"You make a mess, you clean it. You use something, and you put it away. Don't do anything that would get my neighbor's attention, that would be a disadvantage to us both. Kitchen, living room, bathroom. Those are the only rooms you have free reign- in moderation- of."

Perhaps he was over-explaining himself. He just wanted his terms said in the simplest way so there was no wiggle room or loopholes.

On the other hand, it just made him a better demon. After all one of the Demon Oaths was: "What's yours is mine, and what's mine is also mine." So him enforcing these terms made complete sense. And Mao did lose to him, making him the higher level demon... For a human.

Dear Mao, this was embarrassing... But! His chance would come. And when it did, he would overpower his roommate and then make the demands.

"Fine. But I want 2 things now for agreeing. I need you to tell me what this 'internet' thing is for one. I read about it everywhere and I can't find what it is. Second, you have to tell me where I can access a flow of information here. There's a lot of research o need to do and it would take less time to ask someone." He explained.

He liked that. Made things easier.

"The internet? You don't know what that was?" he supposed he shouldn't have been all that surprised.

"It's a system of computers all linked by one central network. Social media, information gathering, forums, et cetera. Whatever you want you can find on it."

He wasn't exactly going to show him how to access it. He didn't want his grubby hands on his work computer.

"As for your second request...well, aside from the internet there is the library." he also wasn't going to show him that, either. His requests were to tell, not show.

Ah, so that's what that metal thing Akechi was playing with. A computer. He saw a lot of information go on and through it, so that must have been what he was messing with.

As for collections of reading materials, anything he ever wanted he always got one of his servants to fetch for him, so he didn't know where the place itself was that books came from. He didn't need to know.

"Hm..." He spoke thoughtfully. "Interesting... Very interesting."

This was quite the breakthrough for the continuation of his research. As for the particulars he was more than capable of finding those out himself. He just wanted a starting point a bit closer.

"That will be my next project tomorrow." He decided, nodding once in confirmation.

And with that he grabbed his modified pillow and blanket, pressed a few buttons and the blanket became a fully functional futon to which was placed in a corner of the room. He saw that Akechi was still on the sofa so he couldn't use it. So he lifted the blanket and snuggled into it.

Goro found himself on edge all day.

On edge and stressed, simmering under the surface as he went about his day.

He at least got out of one commitment that morning, and most of his school routine was spent studying in the school's library.

And work was another feat in and of itself with answering the same questions over and over.

The bruises were fine, he just tripped getting home last night. It was dark and he was exhausted after all. Pleasantries exchanged in the dullest and most superficial way possible.

He didn't get home to well after dark again. Key unlocked the door and the door swung open. He all but threw his belongings inside.

Once Mao made his overall list, he then made an itemized list for things he needed to collect for his base. And there was a lot for him to get. Good thing he had enough HL to get him whatever he wanted. He was surprised that humans had the same currency-- or maybe they thought it was this 'gold' because each of them got excited when he gave it to them.

Of course he had no idea where anything was so he had gone out to make a mental map of it all before going to buy anything.

He had gone to a convenience store for snacks, of which he came away with many bags of that. Chips, sweets, bentos of all varieties, and several other things that looked cool. Japan, as he found the name of this Human World, was turning out to be a really good place for easy food.

There was also many types of manga and magazines he hadn't seen before in the Netherworld, so a healthy stack of those would be good research material.

And lastly he wanted something to do with his hands so he bought several items that he could piece together to make truly wonderous household items, if he did so say himself!

The snacks he figured would best be kept in their respective places. Akechi was either going to bitch at him for having bags of food all over the floor or going into the kitchen to pick it up. So, he thought it best to organize what he wasn't currently eating in the fridge, freezer, and pantry.

He had some time left so he set to working on creating the best bed set he could. Pillows, blankets, and a sleeping mask that could heat or cool depending on what they were set to, encased in the most conducive material for each function. One red set for himself, and a black set for Akechi that he set on the back of the sofa for him.

Once his roommate was home he snickered. Someone was mad.

He hadn't even bothered to say anything to him when he entered the apartment. He hung his jacket up beside the door. Sat his briefcase on the coffee table before clicking it open, the laptop he carried was sat down beside it along with a large stack of papers.

He was going to be busy for a while tonight and thought it best to do what any person with a terrible sleep schedule does best- make coffee.

So with that, he went to his kitchen and opened the cabinets.

"What the hell is all of this," he announced upon seeing his now overfull pantry.

He was always peculiar with how he stocked his cabinets. Snacks really weren't a thing he often kept in his home, both for nutritional sake and the fact he was rarely home to keep a stocked pantry.

Mao couldn't help giggling to himself. He just knew Akechi was going to bitch. It almost sounded like a badge of honor was gifted to Mao each time his roommate would whine. Getting up from his spot on the floor he went to the door of the kitchen to gloat.

"It was either organize everything where it belongs, or have bags of food on the floor." He snickered and as if to stoke the flame of the detective's annoyance further he continued.

"I also added stuff to the fridge and freezer too. It all looked good to me, but I won't be able to eat it all before it goes bad. You can eat some too, I guess." And he gave a dramatic sigh.

"Aren't I so generous?"

He was partially almost pleased with the fact he had at least put the stuff away. Leaving it out would've been a bigger waste.

"Oh. Yeah, I guess that makes sense."

He rummaged past the stuff until he found a bag of coffee grounds that had been shoved into the back of the cabinet. He sat about making the coffee the way he liked and then retreated back to the table as it brewed.

He flipped open the laptop and clicked around a few times, opening the web browser and a few other programs. The stack of folders and papers he had laid out earlier became several smaller stacks as organized and worked through the stacks, pausing every so often to type something.

He hadn't noticed before, but Akechi opened this metal thing and was making clicking sounds on it. Ambling to the back of the couch to get a closer look, the scientist watched as the corresponding keys he was pressing came up on the screen.

How fascinating!

But rather than make a loud comment about it, he just stared, taking a mental note of everything Akechi wrote.

Mao would glance over at the paperwork now and then, but some of the things on it were topics he hadn't heard of before. He could read the language, but he knew next to nothing about it.

Eventually the scent of the coffee registered to him and he went in the fridge to grab his own. Cracking the can open he slipped it before draining the rest of it in a few gulps. It was surprisingly good. Tossing the empty can on the trash he went back to look over Akechi's shoulder before his inventions caught his eye.

"Those are for you..." He mumbled as he scooted the materials infinitesimally closer with the back of his hand, almost as if it were an accident.

He was surprised that humans had the same currency-- or maybe they thought it was this 'gold' because each of them got excited when he gave it to them.

Of course he had no idea where anything was so he had gone out to make a mental map of it all before going to buy anything.

He had gone to a convenience store for snacks, of which he came away with many bags of that. Chips, sweets, bentos of all varieties, and several other things that looked cool. Japan, as he found the name of this Human World, was turning out to be a really good place for easy food.

There was also many types of manga and magazines he hadn't seen before in the Netherworld, so a healthy stack of those would be good research material.

And lastly he wanted something to do with his hands so he bought several items that he could piece together to make truly wonderous household items, if he did so say himself!

The snacks he figured would best be kept in their respective places. Akechi was either going to bitch at him for having bags of food all over the floor or going into the kitchen to pick it up. So, he thought it best to organize what he wasn't currently eating in the fridge, freezer, and pantry.

He had some time left so he set to working on creating the best bed set he could. Pillows, blankets, and a sleeping mask that could heat or cool depending on what they were set to, encased in the most conducive material for each function. One red set for himself, and a black set for Akechi that he set on the back of the sofa for him.

Once his roommate was home he snickered. Someone was mad.

Finally, he could go to the human world and begin his grand experiment!

"How unexpected!" he burst out. "For the human world to be so bleak... It almost reminds me of my closet at home."

And with that, Mao waited for his eyes to adjust, and what he saw gave him pause. There was furniture here. Enough to where it looked like he was inside someone's house or bedroom.

With all of these requests, Mao realized he could continue where he left off in that book he was reading. This thought seemed to please him. Not to mention he got to live in a place where he wouldn't have to actually do any real work that he didn't want to. This seemed like a pretty sweet deal to be able to call his base the house of the Leader of the Human World.

Besides, as easily as he could destroy something, he could create it anew. And if he didn't know how, he could indulge in more research to learn how. Speaking of which, Mao was about to return to the book he was reading, but there was a more pressing matter to attend to.

He needed to make a list of his objectives so he could mark it off when he completed it and, of course to organize his thoughts.

So, he sat down at the coffee table, where his notes and paper were placed and got to work on that.

“Don’t tell me to be quiet in my own house.” He grumbled a few more insults under his breath.

He busied himself with picking up the papers and setting them on the low coffee table, them plucking the book away that Mao had taken.

“I do, and so do you.” He placed it back on his small library shelf.

“I’ve got school, then work. And you- you annoying little rat- have free loaded enough. Im not leaving you alone in my apartment while I’m on the other side of the city all day.”

Mao's attention being focused on what he was reading didn't register that all of his blueprints and plans were being put in another place. But when the book was taken from him he 'tsked' under his breath. Normally he would bitch and shout, but what was he going to do? Get bested by Akechi again? Such is the demon's way.

A smirk did appear when he was 'insulted' again. Despite being stronger than Mao currently was, he did lavish him with praise.

The scientist had no desire to leave this place, and of course Akechi could tall him to go, but he already listened once when his book was taken. That was already enough.

So he rose to his feet as if he was heeding the order and took off down the hall.

"You'll have to catch me first!" he called backwards, working on one of the doors he had come into in order to go inside it.

He had half a mind to potentially report this break-in, but Goro couldn't take the risk of confidential files being found. There was a lot at risk and the little twerp was putting quite a wrench in it.

"I'm going to give you five minutes to knock it off before I knock it off for you." he blocked off the end of the hallway, arms folded as he tapped his foot in annoyance.

He looked far more like a disappointed parent than a pissed-off human-world prince.

"Get outta my way, human!" Mao barked before, out of habit he raised his hand to cast a low level ice spell on the door itself.

The result made Mao screech to a halt.

It worked! The entire was frozen in an instant and the next it shattered from behind Akechi, the frigid pieces of ice-encased door fell to their feet.

One could have sworn Mao was a kid on Christmas given a shiny new toy they had been wanting for months.

"Mwahahaha! Now you can't make me leave or I'll shatter your entire house!" he announced as he held a hand up threateningly.

The spell wouldn't go through unless he pumped his SP into it, but at least now certainly Akechi would believe him.

"And I need a base of operations until I can find my way home. This place is just the easiest." he shrugged.

"But as a demon, I can't stand to be given things. And I don't want to destroy this place, so how about this? You can give me one task to do while you're away and we'll call it fair." he offered.
