So, this isnāt the first post ever made like this, but Iām trying to do something a little different than just posting a bunch of links. Iām only gonna include resources that are international, common, displayed either as a map or as a geographically-sorted list, and easy to participate in, to make this masterpost as accessible as I possibly can. If youāre reading this post youāre probably an English-speaker with an internet connection, and so with that in mind my goal here is that any given link you click will have a decent chance of having something near you, and there will almost certainly be at least one link on this list with something you can plug into
Groups
Mutual Aid Wiki - A map of mutual aid groups of all kinds, largely (but not exclusively) ones started in response to the pandemic
Food Not Bombs - A map of free public meals from rescued food waste. Can be a little outdated
Buy Nothing Project - A list of hyper-local gift economy groups
Trash Nothing - A list of local groups where people give and request things that would otherwise be thrown away
Transition Network - A map of local groups seeking to build sustainable circular economies from the ground up, for people, not profits
Industrial Workers of the World - One big labor union for everybody, with local chapters across much of the world
Itās Going Downās Upcoming Events Page - A partial list of radical actions taking place in the near future, updated frequently
Locations
Slingshot Collectiveās Radical Contact List - An international catch-all list of projects
Intentional Community Directory - A map of communes, housing coops, land trusts, eco-villages, and similar communal living projects
Sharing Cities - Maps of the commons in various cities across the world
Sharing Spaces
Little Free Libraryās Sharing Box Map - A map of little free libraries that have been converted into sharing spaces for food, personal care, or hygiene items
Freedges - A map of community refrigerators for sharing food
Little Free Pantries - A map of sharing boxes for non-perishable food
Canāt Find Anything?
None of these lists are comprehensive, and these arenāt the only resources available either. Try using a search engine or looking on social media with keywords likeĀ ā[your location] mutual aidā
Maybe you could start something yourself! Here are some resources: How to Form an Affinity Group, How to Share from Shareable, Small Town Organizing for Anarchists, resources for mutual aid groups from Mutual Aid Disaster Relief, seven steps to starting a Food Not Bombs group
If you donāt have even a single accomplice to start an affinity group with, there are still actions you can take on your own! Check out my #practical tag for ideas
If you want to start small or just arenāt sure, buy nothing is amazing and so easy to do.
Iāve given everything from clothing, yarn I canāt use, dog supplies, to old computers to folks and while some people are pretty militant that anything you give shouldnāt be sold on, I donāt care if people do that. Iām giving stuff to help others ā if that help is them making some extra cash on some of what I gave them that they canāt use, then great.
Claire has spent a lot of free time at the RPD lately. It's not just that it's easy to get a ride there and home with Chris, but they've got a lot of records that she likes to scroll through. Weekends when she's home from college, she's either working on one of her bikes or using the microfilm readers on the second floor of the police department. There are pretty much endless things to dink around with. Old photos of the forest and newspapers from before her parents were born. Eventually, she figures she might be able to work something into a paper, but mostly it's just for fun. A weird hobby. Besides, no one ever comes down the dark and dusty hallway into the glorified storage closet where they keep all that stuff.Ā
Well. Usually. Today, she's scrolling through some WW2 era JC Penney ads and someone pokes their head, tiny and blonde with a blue headband.Ā
"You look lost," Claire says slowly. "Do you need help? Are you looking for your mom or dad?"
"Uhm. No. I'm looking for my Uncle, actually. The lady at the front desk said to go upstairs and down the hall all the way, butā¦"
"Yeahhhh. I'm guessing your uncle doesn't work in the storage closet," she snorts. "I'm Claire."
"I'm Sherry." She says quietly, and her eyes drift to the microfilm machine. "That's the Raccoon City Ledger. It ran from eighteen ninety-eight to nineteen sixty-two."
A quick look at the headline confirms it. "Uhm, yeah. It is. This is an issue from the forties. I think they stopped publishing it because they got bought up by The Daily Raccoon."
Sherry nods, and walks up to the machine, squinting at the articles. "I like looking at my dad's old issues of News Comet, and Nat Geo." News Comet, if Claire remembers correctly, is a pretty racy tabloid that they publish in town. Not racy exactly, but definitely picks up the stories that the other papers won't. "How old are you?"
"I'm eleven," she says.Ā
"A little young to be reading News Comet."
Sherry shrugs. "My dad doesn't care what I read. My mom says he's lucky I haven't broken into the textbooks but reading about molecular biology is way more boring than murder."
"Yeah, fair enough. I was probably reading worse at your age." She winces slightly when she thinks about Chris's adult magazines she'd stumbled upon around that time. Chris did his best, but he was a kid too, taking care of both of them. "How about I help you find your uncle, huh?"
"Yeah! That would be good. He works in the S.T.A.R.S. office."Ā
Oh.
Claire keeps her voice light and cheery. "Really? My brother works is part of S.T.A.R.S., too." Suddenly Sherry's blonde hair seems like a bad omen. Isn't Richard Aiken blonde? Yeah, but Aiken isn't even in today. That just leaves Wesker. Damnit. "Uh. So. Is he your mom's brother or your dad's?"
Sherry thinks for a while. "You know, I'm not really sure."
"That's okay. Well, the secretary was almost right, but the S.T.A.R.S. office is on the third floor, not the second one. I'll show you." She doesn't offer her hand, Claire's not totally sure if eleven is too old to want to hold hands, but it probably is. She leads Sherry through the RPD to the door of the S.T.A.R.S. office. It's closed. "They're probably getting chewed out in there for something. The door is usually open."
Her companion nods sagely. "Uncle Al does that a lot."
Damn if Claire doesn't know it. But hearing her call Wesker that is undeniably adorable. She files that one away to bother him with later. "Well, we're here to rescue the rest of them." Claire grins at Sherry like they're sharing a secret, and opens the door.Ā
The situation is, in fact, dire. Nobody's sitting at their desks, rather standing in a line almost shoulder to shoulder. Brad Vickers glances behind him and offers her a pleading look. Which turns out to be unnecessary, because Wesker has stopped talking, his hands carefully behind his back. His mouth is still open, though. She's never seen him look quite so stunned. He can't tell if he's looking at her or Sherry or both, but his attention definitely isn't on Alpha Team anymore.Ā
She watches him realise in real time his mouth is still open, snapping it shut and then half of it curls into a snarl. His head tilts back towards Alpha team. "...This discussion is on hold, but it is not forgotten. If I hear one more word regarding any of that behavior again, so help me I will send you all down to the bullpen and you can be regular police. Miss Redfield, Miss Birkin, my office. Now."
Chris perks up and looks at her quizzically. She shrugs instead of offering an actual explanation and follows Sherry and Wesker into his tiny office.Ā
Calling it an office is kind of an insult to offices. She's pretty sure it used to be a closet too, or maybe some sort of storage when it was a museum. Now, it houses a desk that's way too big for the space. She knows Wesker shares it with Captain Marini because there's a picture of Marini's wife and baby. Wesker doesn't have any of his own pictures, but there is one of the whole Alpha team, which says more than he probably realizes. He closes the door behind her and Sherry.Ā
"Sherry, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be at school."
She blinks up at him, frowning a bit. "School ended at three fifteen. It's four thirty."Ā
Wesker has the decency to look ashamed, tilting his head down a little as he seats himself at his desk. "I'm terribly sorry. I lost track of time."
Sherry shrugs. "It's okay, mom and dad forget all the time. It's not a long walk, anyway."
She watches Wesker's icy blue eyes under the lenses of his glasses narrow and turn to Claire, making a look like, do you see this shit? Which, she does. She's not sure she likes Sherry's parents too much, though she knows she probably shouldn't judge based on the two-ish things she knows about them. But Wesker is judging a little, and he's Sherry's uncle, so. Maybe it is warranted.
"I still apologize, Sherry. I said I'd pick you up and I didn't. It won't happen again."
"I could pick her up," Claire tells him. "And bring her here when school's over."
His eyes fix on hers, narrowing again but this time in suspicion. "I wouldn't want to put you outā¦"
"It's fine. I'm over here almost every day anyway, dinking around in the archives. I'll just steal Chris' car for a couple minutes."
"I'm happy to pay you for-"
"Nope. Not necessary. It's not like it's a big deal, it's just a couple of minutes out of the day."
"Still, it was a task I was asked to do, and if I'm delegating it-"
"Then you can read over my paper for my Criminal Justice class like you said you would before." She raises a hand to the side of her mouth so that Sherry can't see when she mouths, and kisses towards him.
He stares at her for a moment, looking unimpressed. "Fine. That would beā¦helpful. Sherry, is that alright? Miss Redfield is a safe driver - when she's not on her motorbike - and aā¦friend. Of mine."
Claire rolls her eyes. Wow, like an eleven year old girl isn't going to pick up on that. Sherry doesn't seem to react, at least. "That sounds good. Thank you Claire!"
She shoots some awkward fingerguns. "No problem. See you at three fifteen tomorrow, sharp." She leaves the tiny office, but pauses by the closed door when she hears, "I really like her!"
as much as I think Wesker likes a submissive s/o, I think he appreciates intelligence more. I think heād get irritated if they couldnāt keep up with him. He wants someone who he can intellectually and verbally spar with him and stand their ground. Someone who excels in his line of work
bonus points: if they are just as evil and vindictive as he is. In a āI donāt make him better. I make him worseā
Oh, yes. Intelligence and competence are the two most attractive things to Wesker. I could say this for all versions of him, really.
Someone who wonāt slack or fall behind, who comprehends the importance of structure, order, and routine and works to maintain it. Someone who can test him, ask proper and meaningful questions which truly leave him questioning for a few seconds. Someone who has enough wit and spark within them to challenge him, debate his strategies and their effectiveness.
It turns him on real quick.
Especially if theyāre his little worker. Someone who he deemed less worthy or valuable, who then proves themselves to be superior than the average canon fodder.
While I think heād very much enjoy someone who isnāt nearly on the same level as himālacking a comprehension of the work he does, barely able to conceptualise his theoriesāI think heād like the pushback of someone matching, or near, his IQ level.
It also makes dumbification in the bedroom all that much funnier, because he knows what youāre capable of. Seeing you scowl at him when he tries to strip you of your worth and smarts, just because he can, and finds satisfaction in it.
Iām going to be late with day 7 of Clesker week (driving all day), but I will probably have something up tomorrow night.
It will be less of a psychological mindfuck and more of a fun āwhat-ifā because god is the headspace for that hard! (I will keep writing it though because š¤¤)
Then, in between the next chapter of Strangers Everywhere and prep for Willsker/Weskin Week, I think Iām going to work on the Dirtbag Karl Heisenberg idea.
I am thinking OC and Dirtbag Karl? No specific OC in mind (my fave is already ~occupied~) but Iām open to suggestions. (he will definitely insist on the title Uncle Karl at some point becauseā¦.its just who he is in my mind.
I feel like if Project Wesker was 'successful' (aka the 13 candidates all lived with no complications), Spencer would arrange them with selected members of the Umbrella company, like a rancher breeding their best cattle for increased yield.
The Selected are agreeable, Umbrella-loyal, and compatible with their assigned Wesker down to the Rh status (because rh affects pregnant women, from what I read) with a preference for O-blood types to quietly saturate the world's blood banks.
Oh yes. For sure. Iād love to hear more of this, actually
Assuming Spencer laid the foundation of each Wesker's academic plans, HIS idea of reproduction was included (that being, 'your eggs/seed is precious to the human race - don't waste it').
===
Instructors subtly reinforced the idea of people 'suitable' for reproduction (AKA European, preferably as northern as possible, likely to produce blonde/blue-eyed children, no known disabilities) and it helps that Umbrella's Executive academy selects candidates that fit this vision for the Wesker to explore (it was 1970s America; they're tucked away, deep in the mountains, for a reason).
===
Spencer, being a control freak, fears his 'children' straying from the script, so he assigns 'handlers' to each Wesker (i.e. William Birkin to Albert Wesker). This includes 'companions' who had the misfortune of being 'selected' by the Wesker (I can imagine 1980s Umbrella making a deal with a Rape victim with how picky the Weskers are about partners. Plus, even a creator wants his creation to enjoy themselves).
===
These people report the Wesker's intimate thoughts to the Project, serving to further filter the subjects to the final 13. (If the woman gets pregnant, both her and the child are taken away for Testing or eliminated. Female Weskers are kept in the dark regarding the affect of birth control pills on the body, despite their initial questions regarding their fertility health).
===
Eventually, all 13 Wesker children inject themselves with the Progenitor Virus. Best Case Scenario: All 13 survive, with no medical issues, all the benefits.
===
Spencer arranges a spouse for each Wesker to reproduce with (the best his company has to offer - all intelligence officers, of course). The Weskers will follow their program and reproduce as soon as possible with their fertility window in mind (going off Albert being 38 in RE1). They continue their work in the company while the spouse with the lesser title focuses on the child rearing.
the orphanage episode isn't about chloe - it's about zeno
i think that zeno was raised in that very raccoon city orphanage. it comes straight from the rpd station/orphanage episode, from the way it's written. let me explain.
1) zeno is the one who shows grace the video about the girl - he is a storyteller here. if re9 were a book and didn't follow the "show, not tell" rule, the orphanage episode would be told from his perspective. he wasn't there on that exact day, but he knows damn well how life was there.
2) this is 95% of information we get from zeno in general. in all other scenes he stays mysterious and speaks only about elpis, so i have no doubt this part is important for the character's personality.
3) let's be clear, separated from this context chloe's story doesn't bring anything new to the plot. the girls were experimented on? thanks, we know it from emily already. they were clones? zeno said that before. a seemingly useless episode meanwhile we know almost nothing about zeno, who appears and gets wiped before revealing anything. let's just connect these two facts.
4) he tells grace that she's the original, the successful experiment, and expects her to feel happy about it. because this is what he always wanted to be as a clone.
5) "i was made?" "correct!" - his smile here. he thinks that it's a normal thing to discover, like he's telling her the truth that must put everything in its place. he doesn't know that for a usual person such origin is a fucking horror.
6) do i have to mention that only test-tube babies have gray hair in this game?
7) the photo which chloe can see in the laboratory: another visual storytelling. the (only?) boy in this picture is highlighted by a black shirt and placed on the edge. he was born around 1980, so now he's about 46. who else could it be?
8) there's a picture of the girls on zeno's end credits slide - not on victor's, though he had two of them in his "sanatorium" - meaning that zeno has even more to do with it. now tell me he hasn't.
-) all clones are girls, therefore, zenussy is canon
0) i also guess that this episode had to be placed not in the rpd station but in the orphanage itself; it could make more sense because
a. this is more convincing to grace
b. the entrance to ark is there, so they wouldn't need to fly a helicopter again as they did
c. why the fuck is there a modern!!! computer in the rpd station when there's no light in the entire city. are you telling me zeno brought both the computer and a generator there. is it his date idea.
d. why would rpd have these files? don't you think they belong to the orphanage or ark?
SO the reason why the scene was misplaced is that devs wanted a catch-up with the tyrant, and it has to be in the station, where else. uhhh.
tl;dr: zeno is indirectly telling us about himself through chloe's story.
"Are you mad at me? I know I've been difficult to deal with."

Theme: Role Reversal
Day 6 was brutal. I just couldn't convince myself to do any of the ideas that came to mind that very clearly fulfilled the idea. So, this is a much more subtle reversal. And a continuation of a previous Clesker one-shot!
