Tips To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs For Good
Bed bugs are extremely annoying and difficult to get rid of. But with these tips, you can reduce your chances of having them in your home and get rid of them if they do come by.
Clean Your Carpets
Bed bugs are tiny, so they can hide in the fibers of your carpet and lay eggs there. To get rid of them, use a steam cleaner or hot water extraction machine to kill bugs and eggs on the surface of your carpeting. Then vacuum with an upright vacuum cleaner that has a beater bar and brush roll set at medium height (not too high or low).
Launder Bedding and Clothing in Hot Water
In order to prevent bed bugs from spreading, you should wash all items that come in contact with your skin. This includes bedding, clothing and towels. You can do this in a washing machine but if possible it is better to take them to an industrial laundry where they will be washed at over 130 degrees Fahrenheit. It's also best to use a clean machine that has not been used for any other purpose than washing clothes specifically for you (and only your family).
After laundering the items in hot water make sure they are dried on high heat so that no eggs remain alive within them; wrap them in plastic wrap when drying so there is no chance for any live bugs or eggs getting out of their cocoons before being incinerated by the dryer heat.
Remove Resistant Bugs Using a Steam Cleaner
Steam cleaners are a great way to kill bed bugs. The heat and steam penetrate the seams, cracks and crevices where bed bugs hide, killing them before they can lay eggs or spread infection. This is especially effective for areas where you can't easily reach with a vacuum cleaner, like under furniture or behind baseboards.
However, steam cleaners should not be used on mattresses or upholstered furniture because it will damage these materials (and potentially start a fire). Instead use an attachment with a nozzle that reaches into these areas more easily so you don't have to worry about damaging your belongings while trying to kill those nasty critters!
Spray Plants with Insecticide
Spray plants with insecticide to kill bed bugs. Bedbugs are attracted to the smell of plants and will often hide in them, so spraying them with a pesticide can be an effective way of killing them. Be sure that you spray all parts of your plant, including under leaves where you may not see any bugs at first glance!
Repair Cracks in Walls and Floorboards
Use a caulking gun to seal cracks in walls and floorboards. Bed bugs can hide inside these cracks, so it's important to fill them with a spray that will seal the area and keep bugs out.
If your home has any holes or gaps in the floorboards, use silicone or another type of caulk to fill them up completely before you start sleeping again! This will help prevent bed bugs from entering your home through those areas, too!
Keep Insects Out of the Home by Eliminating Food Sources.
If you want to get rid of bed bugs, you first need to make sure they don't have a reason to come back. This means eliminating any food sources that might draw them into your home in the first place. Bedbugs love protein-based diets like blood and skin cells, so it's important to keep those out of reach by sealing off any open containers or bags of food and wiping down surfaces before putting them away after meals. If possible, vacuum often (at least once per week) in areas where dust builds up frequently and consider using insecticides on cracks and crevices around windowsills or other parts of the home where bedbugs could enter easily.
