STUNNING
calvinlinacre:
He rather unconvincingly faked shock at her retort. “I have manners, Monroe – what I don’t have is patience.” He ignored the warm feeling that being graced with such a genuine smile brought on. He stared very pointed at the table, as if it was difficult to be seen at all by her. His coffee was almost gone, decorating the shirt of the boy on the other side of the hall, but he drained what was left for something to do with his hands.
He arched an eyebrow, but perhaps she wasn’t wrong. Daphne was a little bit like the sun - dazzling, difficult to look at, potentially quite dangerous. “Well this really is a treat after a summer of serving the population of Roseville skinny chai lattes,” he drawled, going for the Virginia inflection that he had become so familiar with, “but I am already completely sick of the unrelenting sexual tension in the corridors.”
“You should consider getting some,” she replied simply, setting her cup down. Her smile didn’t waver, even as she watched him fidget under her gaze for a moment before finally shifting her attention away from him to her toast. Still, even with her eyes still following the spread of strawberry jam, when he went for the coffee, she couldn’t help but add somewhat pointedly, “Need a refill?”
“What? Don’t tell me you didn’t like hearing about Mrs. Atkinson’s cat’s arthritis. Or Ms. Thompson’s friendly reminders to always add the milk last lest the foam deflate and she be forced to demand a remake.” She spoke with a straight face, seemingly sincere for a beat until she met his gaze again, face cracking to a grin. “Ah,” nodding to his most recent complaint, she offered a shrug of commiseration, “you just have to get used to that. The seduction students like to practice, and everyone else likes to encourage them, I think. Any glaring examples I should know about, though?”
cadenloupe:
“ Trust me, that hasn’t left my mind ONCE since getting here, “ he admitted with her, with a chuckle. Then he looked back at her, a teasing grin growing on his face. “ Though for all you know, I could be able to handle my own. Why are you so quick to bet against me ? “
Monroe tilted her head and pursed her lips as she made a show of considering him, blue eyes sweeping down to his shoes and then back up to his face. “Call it an instinct. Women’s intuition, if you will.” A natural gift for reading people that had only been strengthened by years of theatre and then spy training. “Though if you’d like to prove me wrong, I’m sure there’s sparring space open somewhere.” She added, bouncing the tease back to him with a crooked smile.

“ So what do you think of all the guys on campus ? “ The question is for Monroe, the only person in their dorm room, but Kass’ eyes never look up from her laptop screen. She’s not ignoring her friend; if she’s in her room, chances are Kass is leaning against the wall on her bed, clacking away on her keyboard. Her and Monroe had talked about the boys when they had first arrived, but now there was enough time to form some legitimate opinions on them.
“What, you mean besides as target practice?” She jokes in response, setting her book down as she shifts to drape her upper body over the edge of the top bunk, catching and upside down view of her friend. Considering the question more seriously for a moment, she shrugs as best she can in her position. “I mean, most of them seem fine. There seems to be the expected smattering of arrogance and entitlement and a sprinkling of general stupidity, but some of them are alright.” Like Cal, who she’d met working in a bookstore café over the summer, though some would disagree with her judgement of him. “On the other hand, some of them radiate bad news from like, thirty feet.” One, in particular, actually.

Jess eyed the blonde’s outfit curiously, giving a nod of approval. “ Well hey, you look SHARP. “ For once, it wasn’t a jab; Jess had wished she had decided on a suit for tonight. “ I don’t think they’ll be playing any music tonight that I’ll approve of, but by all means, maybe the DJ will take requests. “
“Thanks!” Monroe beamed at the complement, soaking up the positive attention like a flower would sunshine, before returning one in kind. “You look pretty good yourself. Not everyone can pull off floor length.” At Jess’ next comment, her eyebrows raised. “Maybe? What good’s a school full of spies-to-be if we can’t convince one unsuspecting DJ to play what we want?”
stfrcnis:
daphne was a weird one , he didn’t hate her , he actually really liked her. there was never any malice in his tone whenever he spoke with her but it caught everyone off guard. the two were vicious but at the end of the day , it was nice to joke around in a place where jokes were discouraged. “ well —- “ he muttered as he approached the blonde. “ you look —- “ he looked her up and down for a second. “ meh , “ shoulders rose in a slight shrug. of course she looked gorgeous but he’d never say.
@extralegallyblonde
She didn’t have to look to who’d taken that tone with her, but she did anyway just to see the expression he paired with his delivery. Honestly, she was relieved; the jab was refreshing compared to the tight formalism of the occasion. Returning the shrug, she calmly responded “Well, I’ll take meh over whatever it is you’re going for.” Out of the corner of her eye, she caught some first years furrowing their brows in confusing at the exchange. They’d catch on soon enough. “How’s your evening been? Mine was going well until...when did you start talking?”
wowjesss:
“ WOW… I’ve never wished so badly for a school function to have alcohol, “ Jess muttered to the person nearest her. She supposed it could’ve been worse; thankfully she had come to school with a bottle of Jack Daniels that she was able to take a shot of before leaving for the gala. But with students younger than twenty-one invited, Jess wasn’t shocked to see a lack of a bar. Spies and alcohol could be a potentially lethal combination, professors said; Jess could argue that being forced into heels while mingling with her new male classmates for an entire night was also quite lethal. “ You’re not hiding any on you somewhere, are ya ? “
“Me?” Monroe turned her attention to the other girl. “No, I’m afraid it might ruin my fit,” she gestured to her tailored suit with a laugh, as if that were the only reason she hadn’t brought booze, before offering an encouraging smile. “Come on, it’s not so bad. Or at least it won’t be once they start playing some better music.” As one might expect of a former theatre major, dressing up had never bothered Monroe. As a matter of fact, she enjoyed it: wearing something nice, putting on a smile, catching eyes. And there were so many new eyes to catch. Monroe hoped she’d have the chance to spar against some of the boys at some point–hear them say they’d go easy on her just before she put them on their back with bruised ribs.

Cal grimaced. He had no qualms about showing the first year’s their place, but Monroe was exempt from such treatment. “Daphne,” he responded in a mocking version of her sing-song tone, on his lips it sounded dangerous, “get your hands off me.” Nevertheless, he stepped back from the chair and out of her grip with the smallest of nods, purposefully sloshing a bit of his coffee on the head of the unsuspecting first year in the process.
No flicker of recognition crossed Cal’s face as she gently teased the first year in question, the relief visible as it flowed through their body, glancing nervously between the pair of them and wondering, as most did, why Monroe even bothered. Stood like this, side by side, they looked like an unlikely comedy duo. Calvin’s mouth was a hard line. “I don’t think I quite learned my lesson last time,” he replied, mostly for Monroe’s sake, arching an eyebrow at the first year and allowing her to tug him away.
“Aren’t you glad you’re going to be seeing a whole bunch more of me now?” The side of his mouth curled up into something vaguely resembling a smile as he sunk into another chair, pulling one out next to him for her with a loud scraping noise. Faces all around them looked, startled, in their direction. He scowled. “Is everyone here so difficult - or are you an exception?”
She suppressed an eye roll at the clearly not accidental coffee spill, though she was when he stopped there, and further pleased when he played into her act with his parting line. She fluttered her fingers briefly at the first-year in a gentle wave goodbye as they walked away.
“Oh, so very, very glad.” A genuine smile lit her face as she settled into the offered seat, ignoring the attention of their surroundings, before it sharpened just slightly as she continued. “Perhaps now I’ll have the consistency needed to actually teach you some manners.” No longer needing to play mediator, her teasing turned on Cal, as she eyed his responses from over the rim of her mug. She set her tea down to consider his next question, though, tilting her head back and humming lightly.
“Not so much an exception I think, as a...” she took another pause to choose her words, before sliding her her eyes back to his, “particularly dazzling example.” She shot him a wicked grin. “So the short answer is yes.” A chuckle, and then her gaze softened again. “Aside from the army of difficult women, how are you settling in so far?”
cadenloupe:
As if the moment couldn’t get any better, a gorgeous blonde took a seat right next to him, flashing him an inviting smile. It was official – he was never leaving. “ Is it that obvious ? “ Caden countered, flashing her a small smirk before letting out a laugh. “ It’s just wild… I never knew a place like this existed. Now I’m wondering it took so long for me to get here. “ Obviously he was not thinking about the spy part of the school.
She hummed, feigning consideration of his question with raised eyebrows before responding decisively, “yes.” Before she could point out that limited knowledge of existence was somewhat a prerequisite for an institution like Gallagher, though, she realized he was likely forgetting one key component. “Well, subtlety is usually considered an important component of spy-craft, for one thing.” Her smile widened to a grin with the tease, before her eyes darted to where he’d been looking. “You realize most people here could kill you without breaking a sweat. Or a nail.”
calvinlinacre:
[@gallagherstart]
the first week of a new college year was always slightly overwhelming - too many fresh faces to process. cal made it his business to have tabs on everyone, stalking the corridors with an eye trained towards trouble, and the first years, with their confused energies and expectant nerves, made it difficult for calvin to anticipate when an issue was about to arise. two fourth year girls, reunited after the break, threw themselves at each other with shrill scream. he winced.
when he finally made it to the dining hall, slight coffee spill trailing after him betraying the smallest of trembles in his hand, he was more than a little unimpressed to spot someone in what was, in no official capacity, his seat at the top table. “if you want to keep your fingers, i suggest you find somewhere else to sit.” his voice was cool and disinterested as he unceremoniously kicked the chair leg.
Monroe was scanning the dining hall for a place to sit down and eat her breakfast when she spotted Calvin on what appeared to be, unsurprisingly, the edge of confrontation. Well, that was fast. Opting to intervene, she made her way over to her friend quickly, balancing her tray against her hip so she had a hand free to place on his shoulder with, for the moment anyway, a light tough. “Calvin,” she sing-songed, before pouting up at him, “there’s no need to terrify the first-years before they’ve even had their first classes. I’m sure they’re scared enough as it is.”
She paused, turning to offer the unfortunate freshman a sympathetic smile. “It was an honest mistake, and besides,” her smile quirked mischievous as she directed it back to him, “you remember how much trouble you got in last time you dismembered another student without permission...” She let the statement hang a moment before she laughed it off, tossing the poor kid a wink. “Kidding. Come on, we can sit somewhere else today.” Her grip shifted to tug lightly at his shirt in an attempt to lead him away.
cadenloupe:
HE STILL CAN’T BELIEVE he’s here , his eyes shifting around as he takes in the sights on the main quad. All around , as far as the eye could see , are GIRLS ; blondes , brunettes , redheads. There’s boys too , of course , but they aren’t nearly as interesting to Caden. He knew Gallagher Academy had just started being co-ed , but it still felt like females outranked him three to one. Caden CERTAINLY wasn’t complaining. “ I think I’ve died and went to HEAVEN. “
She’d just been looking for a place to read, hoping to take advantage of the quad while the weather was still nice and finish her latest book before classes shifted back into full swing, but then she’d spotted him, all but gawking, and well, that simply couldn’t go without comment. Settling next to him, the blonde crossed her legs, leaning forward to rest her chin on her hand and flash a knowing smile. “You must be new here.”
