Well, after so much time, I can finally share this AoStH Fanfic/AU I’ve been cooking up for the past month. Meet "The Chaos Emerald Squad."
Let me clarify a few things about it(too much text warning):
First, what it’s about:
This AU/Fanfic takes place after the final episode of AoStH (I don't consider "Christmas Blast" canon). Fed up with constant failure, Dr. Robotnik decides to revive one of his best plans: seeking out the Chaos Emeralds. However, this time he won't use a time machineto avoid creating further anomalies and he decides to kick out Scratch and Grounder for being useless ending in sanitation duty with coconuts. He builds a robotic Sonic, but without using a Mobian to control it; thus, Metal Sonic is born. Meanwhile, Coconuts, tired of Robotnik and the lack of potential he saw in him, decides to become a villain in his own right. He adopts Robotnik's plan but aims to destroy Moebius rather than just rule it. Scratch and Grounder wanted things to go back to normal, but since no one needed them anymore, they considered giving up. However, realizing he couldn't do it alone, Coconuts hired Scratch and Grounder as his assistants, creating "The Chaos Emerald Squad."
In short: Coconuts adopts Scratch and Grounder under his wing, and now they have a little band of bad guys while Moebius falls apart.
The ones I like to call the "newbies":
Metal Sonic is the most important figure here. He was created by Robotnik with the intention of giving Sonic a rival who could actually defeat him—and who better to threaten Sonic than… Sonic? That’s where Metal Sonic comes in.
Unlike in most adaptations, this version of Metal Sonic is heroic and kind-hearted; he is essentially a more sentimental and emotionally vulnerable version of our favorite chili-dog-loving blue hedgehog. He possesses all of Sonic's memories (at least from the moment he met Robotnik), though they are somewhat distorted by his sentimental nature, leading him to genuinely believe he is the real Sonic. He sees the good in everyone—even Robotnik, regarding whom he holds a false memory that the villain had abandoned his evil ways.
He is heavily inspired by Fern from Adventure Time is it obvius enough.
Amy is sweet and hyperactive, with a strong obsession with Sonic to the point where she changes her appearance just to catch the eye of her male counterpart. She carries her trusty crystal ball, which promises a bright, happy future with the blue hedgehog she constantly chases. Despite her delicate nature, she can become quite aggressive under pressure, making her a capable fighter; while she is primarily motivated by love, she will also do whatever it takes for the good of Moebius.
Knuckles is like his Sonic Underground counterpart but grumpier.
As the last of his clan, he has a serious, tough demeanor and is always ready to protect Moebius and the Master Emerald (yes, it exists in this AU, and its function is essentially to neutralize the Chaos Emeralds and whoever wields them). At the same time, however, he tends to be naive and easily deceived—having once been tricked by Robotnik into believing that Sonic had stolen the Master Emerald.
Nack (yes, thats his name here) is basically a stingy bounty hunter motivated solely by money, though unlike Wes Weasley(problobly their cousins or something..their both weasels in this au), he never switches sides. He always acts villainously because he believes it yields the greatest profit; he is a liar and a deceiver who often uses others to get his way. In reality, he is somewhat meddlesome and greedy, yet easily annoyed when things don't go his way.
Vector is a crocodile who initially appears dangerous and ferocious, but is actually quite calm and laid-back, always listening to his music. Although money is a major motivator for him, he also enjoys helping others without expecting anything in return though he did go through a period of severe financial hardship, which might explain why he's so money hungry. Even though he isn't the leader of the Chaotix (as he is in the games), he can still be somewhat bossy, often feeling the need to shoulder more responsibility than necessary; nevertheless, he loves his colleagues and treats them like family.
Espio, on the other hand, is the actual leader of the Chaotix in this universe; he is always serious and calm, yet incredibly agile. He usually has to be the one to set boundaries for his teammates. He founded the Chaotix Detective Agency with the goal of saving others, though the blue hedgehog has been driving them toward bankruptcy since he always saves the day before they can, causing Espio to question his own skills as a detective. He attended the same ninja school as Grasshopperrun by Kwai Chang Crane but left to forge his own path, this explains his accent and ninja skills, which don't quite align with his job as a detective, though who are we to judge?
Charmy is the youngest member of the group, bursting with energy and eager to learn about the world around him. He isn't very bright and is quite naive, making him less useful than the other two members, yet he remains a crucial part of the team thanks to his ability to fly. Born into bee royalty, he was forced into a life he didn't want and eventually ran away, joining the Chaotix agency after Vector found him. Despite being a detective, he has a tendency to steal from others, though he is quickly stopped and scolded for it.
uhh yeah i had to base myself a little in the modern games and archie comics cus theres very little info about how their classic selves where like

I’m going to publish the fanfic in question here. I’d love to upload it to AO3, but let's just say I don't remember my password, and the only ones I do recall come up as invalid, so… oops. I’m worried it’ll flop, since I know fanfics here tend to get very little traction, but it’s either that or make a comic and making a comic takes a lot of time and effort so… I’ll do it in fanfic format.
I’ll be working on this AU and other personal projects for the time being. Just a heads-up, though: I won’t have all the chapters ready at once, so while I work on them, I’ll likely post more drawings.
