What did you do to keep yourself occupied during your years in the cell? Did you at least have a pebble or something to draw/write on the walls with, or shoe laces to practice tying and untying, or a book or anything apart from just staring at a wall?
"Not really, no."
Akela's mental fortitude had always been off the charts. She spent a lot of the time taking in what little she had to look at and memorizing those things. Patterns. Rock formations. The timing of a drip in the distance. What day it was based on her hunger and exhaustion and the deterioration of her body. She tried to engage every sense she could to keep from going insane.
It had worked.
Sort of.
She made it out alive but she left a lot of herself in that cell too.
