So I put my reaper cosplay on hold.

It was just such a headache and not that I mind a challenging build but for a character I haven't even plated yet the passion just wasn't there. I fell in love with the design when I first saw the trailer but I've realized it's not enough. I need a Cosplay that I'm passionate about. I may not be amazing when I pick Katarina for my champion but I love playing her and her look is totally in my wheelhouse. Maybe reaper will make a comeback when I get to try over watch but for now it's Katarina all the way.

Starting on Katarina's blades. Even the templates look goooooood. If anyone wants a scan of these I'm happy to share.

So I filled my head cast with expanding foam and all the areas except the cranial area seemed to harden just fine. Even after poking holes in the cast with an awl, (something which by the way is very weird as I was aggressively stabbing the likeness of my own head) refused to properly harden. So I made an incision in the um... upper noggin. Surprise surprise the brain area was full of goo. A resiny form of the foam substance that for whatever reason condensed instead of foaming and expanding. More research is needed for this down and dirty (and cheap) casting method.

If you're planning on duct tape casting your head remember to have fun with it. My head was super sweaty after and because I cut it off myself I had a jagged bald line running up the back of my head.

Made my lamp a new shade. Wasteland inspired and made from scraps I’ve collected.

Armor is shaping up. I never liked working with eva foam or worbla on their own but together the process is simple and the results are satisfying.

Created a Cosplay group today.

Tired of all the pretension and shallowness of other cosplay groups. I just want to talk shop with having to wade through a sea of self promotion.

YES I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS. I made a post on a cosplay help forum just asking what everyones pages were and what they were working on, people just completely disregarded the conversation I attempted and 250 comments of self promoting pages alone later.  does my head in >_<

I've been paying attention to membership in these groups and I've noticed that active cosplayers who don't promote outside their own page are barely posting at all. All the self promotion has choked out those that actually appreciate the art and made real posts useless.

Learned a lesson today: your sander may have fine grit sand paper but doesn't mean it's right for the job. Today as i was putting the final sand on my gun i managed to sand dozens of grooves and divots all over my surfaces. Sometimes slower is better. Next time I'll be doing it by hand.

Reference pictures for my next cosplay. Reaper from Overwatch will be my most difficult build to date. I mean just look at that. Also I'm pretty slim so I might feel like I'm wearing football pads when its finished. We'll see.   

Currently just working on detailing the gun before I cast it. Progress shots soon.
