Another peek at a brand new photo that has been over a year in the making! Created specifically for inclusion in the spring edition of the Affordable Art Fair, New York. In this series by Toronto-based photographer Julia Callon, she constructs miniature models by hand, of institutions that we are all familiar with and must interact with out of necessity (a bank, a grocery store, an office). Each of these are places that have been drastically disrupted due to advancing technology; we no longer need to go to a bank to get money, and we can buy our groceries online. Although the chaotic state of the image represents tension and instability, the meaning of the image is more nuanced: "Work" addresses an internal struggle - one which occurs in the search for what it means to be successful , and how that is defined by the work we do. On one hand it is important to find work that is fulfilling and at the same time it is essential to earn a living. Addressing these simultaneously is without a doubt a challenge, if not a paradox. Here's another peek at a work I'll be showing @affordableartfairnyc - kicking off tomorrow night! "To Time and Life" by Ellen Janzten is a brand new image I'll be showing for the first time. This series explores some pretty big themes: Does the life-force rise and connect the terrestrial with the celestial, or does it evaporate into thin air? As Ellen states "some say, all time exists at once; the indefinite, continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future are regarded as a whole. I am vastly interested in these states of reality. This cohesion is mesmerizing to me, and after spending the last several years immersed in the past, I am embracing the future."
