Dark eyes steadily met hers, unwavering in purpose but with a certain air of resignation.  To balance mankind’s future in one hand and the safety of the forest in the other weighed heavily upon him, but if the great Forest Spirit had saved his life yet not lifted his curse, what else could be his purpose? What else, even when a certain wolf girl had begun to stir something in his veins, his heart? If he were to die…so be it, but she, she must live- the world must live. Of no tribe he may be, yet Ashitaka could protect what small bonds he had formed among those he had met.

  The two wolf brothers looked deep into the human warrior’s dark eyes. “Yes, there are rituals, ceremonies, that one must perform…” rumbled one. “Do you believe you can withstand them? We are far more feral than your human mind is.” Growled the other.

Some would call him brave, others would cry at his foolhardiness, yet the prince steadily returned the gazes of the wolf brothers, the absence of fear evident while he lifted his chin ever so slightly, a sense that he would not cower before them- respect, yes, but fear- never. “I cannot disbelieve what I do not know; only with knowledge of these rituals will I discover if I can accomplish them. Display your feral nature, your ferocious minds, and I will strive to meet their strength. For to join your tribe would be…to belong once more, I who have not belonged since I let my arrow fly that day.”
