Because I feel worn out recently my self-control is low and I'm inserting myself into the reblogs with some study questions. None of these questions are going to convince anyone of anything because this conversation is not about censorship, it's about who is considered human and inhuman and by extension who is allowed to live, have rights, how they exist in public and private spaces, and what is allowed to happen to them. However, only half of the conversation will acknowledge that, the other half is so deep in it if they acknowledge what the conversation is really about they will have to examine their own actions and beliefs.
Does censorship (the controlling, limiting, or destroying of information in any form in order to promote or maintain a set of proscribed values) work at what it's intended to do?
Should a religious, governmental, or social group be in charge of censorship? Do you identify with that group?
Many posters on this post have cited historical issues with citations history such burning of documents, civil rights violations, deleting support groups for sexual assault survivors, and deleting social media accounts; did these things actually happen or are these situations made up?
Organizations such as the Roman Catholic Church put great emphasis on spiritual purity, including sexual chastity and abstinence. Has the efforts of the Roman Catholic Church (including using their social and political influence to encourage censorship through the banning, burning, or removing of both art and information) been effective in protecting children such as in the St Joseph's Catholic Orphanage in the US or the Magdalene Laundry in Ireland?
How do you define sexual content? If it is not explicitly sexual such as pictures of feet, eating, or tickling someone, is that content safe from censorship? If context matters who decides on context? If you see pictures of feet and you see them as pornographic images doesn't that mean that you are sexually aroused by them? If someone tells you that someone finds them sexually arousing and that's why they're pornographic who is allowed to tell you and what could that blanket decision of anything someone might find potentially arousing lead to?
When child sexual assault is not reported it is usually because of shame and a sense it was deserved because it was enacted by someone in authority who told them they could not tell anyone and that they wanted it in some way; what would be the effect on reporting child sexual assault when an overarching authority promotes the idea that discussing sexual content is bad and the person discussing it is a sexual deviant and bad person?
Is sexual education child pornography? It deals by definition with the sexual changes and urges felt by minors and is administered by an adult who is often asked sexually related questions by said minors, should sexual education be banned?
Most of the discussion on this post has been about art discussing child sexual assault, but censorship covers the destruction of any information that doesn't serve the current authority. Is there one authority that doesn't change and is therefore eternally good safe and manageable? Is there a law that has never been added? Is there a rule that never changed? Is there a love that never had a before and which will never have an after? Will that love protect you from everything? If it protects you, is that all that matters? Can you trust your government to never take anything from you? To never make you unlawful? If you are small enough and loud enough and sweet enough and breedable enough and say the right thing and fight the right person and never open a checking account and dye your hair the right color and tighten the internal corset enough and prove to everyone that you have never been to the devil's sacrament and that's how you know that Goody Proctor was there, if you do all that will you be safe and loved and never have to be afraid again?
If authoritarian censorship protects people, can you tell me which people it protects so I know whether or not authority is allowed to kill me?
