ezlo-the-sage started following shade-of-the-hero
Setting his sword and shield aside, the ghostly figure lay down on his stomach to see the visitor more clearly. He rubbed his good eye to ensure that he was seeing correctly, then said “Are- are you a- what are they called… a Picori?”
The old sage nodded. “Indeed, I am. My name is Ezlo, I am the sage of the Picori.”
“Interesting.” the Shade mumbled. “I had always thought that the Kokiri weren’t the forest’s only inhabitants.” For quite some time as a child, Link had been interested in fairytales, though he never thought he’d ever get to see a Picori.
Ezlo chuckled. "Why of course, boy. There are many inhabitants of the forest, not just the Picori or Kokiri."

"Yeah… well I mean if I assume you’re a slave you’d take offense…." Shadow said with a sigh and shook his head. "You know… I don’t think it was his to give anyway… Besides.. I.. betrayed him," Shadow replied. "I felt like he didn’t care about me in the end anyway," He added.
The sage gave an understanding nod. "I should apologize. For allowing him to be free and for even taking him under as my apprentice when I did..." The elder closed his eyes, letting out a quiet sigh. "I pray things are not too much for you."

“E-Ezlo…? Is that you?" He rubbed his eyes absentmindedly looking at his green cap.
"C-could it be!? Link! How long it has been, boy!"

ezlo loved sleeping in for like most of the morning every day and hated getting up early but after he got an apprentice he started waking up at 4 in the morning just out of spite
the great sage ezlo

Shadow growled. “I was not his servant! And if you see a lot of him in me I shall strive to rid myself of that,” He replied with a huff. “I will never be a servant of any one. I was his equal. He raised me and promised me leadership of the Shadow Realm,” He hated it when people thought of him as Vaati’s servant. Even if he was.
Ezlo's expression did not change. "I had no offensive intentions with what I said. I hope you understand who, exactly, you're relying on for that promise... Is he really a man to hold his word? Or is he a snake, waiting to strike at any given chance...?" He said, closing his eyes and taking a seat on the tree stump behind him.

"So he could run out of his own energy, then.." he mutters to himself, lost in his own thought for a moment until the idea of destroying the user comes up. "Kill.." His eyes widen a little. "No.. no no, I.." He bites his lip. He certainly wouldn’t kill Umbra. But… Vaati..? Could he really kill his own master? Former, master.. “That’s just it, though.” He sighs, “Towards the end of things, Vaati morphed into.. sort of a monster. He practically absorbed the cap right before being sealed away. He’s not dead.. the cap is with him.. and I sure as heck aint touchin’ the Four Sword.. I don’t know what I’d need to do to make Umbra’s abilities more.. controlled.”
Shadow looks the sage in the eyes in a silent plea for help. “He’s isn’t like me.. he knows no boundaries.. and his intentions are never good.. do you know of anything that could help—”
"Goddesses damnit! I can’t find the way out of these stupid woods!" Umbra interrupts, fuming with rage. Shadow makes no attempt to further his question, clearing not wanting Umbra to know his real purpose for seeking out Ezlo. Now back at Shadow’s side, he stare between the two of them, questioning the sudden silence. ”..What?”
The elder finally spoke up, starting with a sigh. "I have given you the most I could to answer your questions. Without the cap in either of our hands, your intentions could be difficult and though you may not wish it to be, retrieving help from a chosen hero may be your only true answer." Ezlo glanced from Shadow to Umbra and then back to the other. "I am truly sorry I could not be of much more help."

A looks of hurt crosses Shadow’s expression, but he decides it isn’t worth explaining the fact that technically… he was a hero too. Umbra, on the other hand, has no problem voicing his opinion. "Our kind? Excuse you?! Th’ hell ya think yer talkin’ to?!”
"Umbra.. hush.. it’s fine." He rests his hands on a very angry shadowling’s shoulders, but Umbra storms off anyway, cursing and grumbling to himself. A slow breath escapes him, and then Shadow focuses on the sage. He keeps his voice low, so only the two of them hear. "So.. you made the previous cap, then." He clears his throat, looking a little nervous now.
"You see.. while I am just Link’s shadow Vaati managed to pull out of our mirror… Umbra is part of the magic Vaati couldn’t control. They share the majority of their abilities." He leans in closer. "Mr. Ezlo.. My question is.. did the cap have a limit..? Is there anything I can do.. for example.. to make him.. safer?" He glances to Umbra, who was scrambling to try and find his way out on his own, getting more frustrated by the second.
Ezlo seemed vaguely surprised by Shadow's question. "...Perhaps I was mistaken. You may be a creature of darkness, but you are good-hearted." He thought a moment and then decided to answer. "The cap... Depends on its user. If he is drained of his energy, the cap will also lose its power. It is possible to happen, since the cap runs on energy most of the time. Other than that, the only limit is its own, or the user's lifespan. Destroy the cap, destroy its magic. Kill the user, the cap's magic is lost until the next user is chosen."
"It’s not like he gave me specific directions…" He mumbled, sighing. "I’d ask him myself how to get here, but he’s busy with his newborn daughter, so…" There was a hint of slight jealously, thinly hidden in those words. "I’m not asking you to take me there. But if you need a reason to trust me… I guess this will be my best bet. " He pulled aside his dark cloak to reveal his knight’s crest.
Ezlo blinked at the crest and nodded. "Alright, you've proven yourself. Come along." He pointed to crack in a stump. "through here is how we get to the village."

"Ow," Shadow yelped as Elzo whacked him. "What? I’m willing to wager you’ve heard old for a while two yet that doesn’t bother you. Besides you side it, not me!" He argued with a huff. "Besides when I knew Vaati he was a LOT taller than you so I figured you would have been just as tall as him," He added and rolled his eyes still rubbing his head. "Now I know where Vaati got it from," he huffed again.
The old man shook his head with a scoff. "Having you as his servant, it seems he's willing to pass off his ridiculous attitude, I suppose. I see a lot of him in you, lad."

"Well i was going to go with short but sure we can go with old if you wish," Shadow said with a laugh and smirked at Elzo.
Ezlo seemed unfazed by the insult. "I suppose you big-people are running out of decent insults to throw. C'mon, boy, I've heard that one for most of my life, I'm a Picori after all, you idiot!" He huffed, bonking Shadow on the head with his staff.

Shadow glances down at the book, then back up. “All he mentions in this is that he got it from you. But by the way he wrote it, it sounds like he’d known ya before.. though he doesn’t sound happy about it. Just how did he know ya..? And when did he get the cap?” Shadow was actually very interested in his former master’s unspoken past. Umbra, however, only tagged along because he wanted a cap too.
"He was my apprentice for a few years. The cap was not originally his to take, but I eventually decided he would have it. I managed to discover ways to create a better hat. Nothing for your kind, however. It is not meant for the hands of the dark." He said with a scoff and shook his head.

"Elzo? As in master of Vaati, Elzo?" He asked with a raised eyebrow and laughed. "You know i would have never figured that you would look… Well like that," He said and rolled his eyes.
The old Picori huffed. "Like an old man, hm? Well, I've been around for many years, lad." He said with a nod.
