Sometimes I think a little too hard about that comment Sam made about not having “filled out” until after his trip to six flags.
Like it’s canon that Sam’s family was abusive, but like I think there is more. In my mind Sam grew up poor, his parents were already neglectful as all hell, so between his parents not giving less of a shit about if he was eating, when he did eat it wasn’t much of anything substantial. Definitely not enough food for a teenager who is growing into their body. So for most of Sam’s life he was pretty scrawny.
Once he finally got to Dahlia and got settled there, he actually could afford to, and started eating well and was actually getting nutrients he needed for once in his life, and as a result he grew and he filled out quick.
It brings me many thoughts and joy.
Sam who found joy and comfort in cooking in his adult life
Sam who when he was turned, didn’t get any sustenance food at all anymore and just felt it as another important piece of himself that was stolen from him.
Sam who after he meets Darlin, puts a lot of care into making sure they eat well, because he feels first hand the importance of a good, filling meal.
Sam who uses cooking food as a love language.
Sam who sits down for meals with Darlin as often as he can, even if he doesn’t technically need to eat.
