Poorly Put Together Stein Ramble!!

In which I yap about how his mental health is portrayed

Genuinely started feeling distressed for him during this whole episode like (or any time he’s going through something madness related but this whole thing specifically) ughhh he means so much to me and honestly he’s (in my opinion) pretty good mental illness rep even though said mental illnesses is fictional

god this too but like from an autistic perspective way?. I know that’s not what it was trying to convey but him being distressed over how “noisy” things were and that being basically being the only thing he was focusing on felt like getting punched in the gut like me too :(

Also Back to the other thing. Him not being able to recognize himself as a kid was making me so unreasonably sad because he has so much disconnect from himself.. and I know it’s like a cliche for characters to be like “who are you????” to their younger selfs but with him specifically it felt so real. Like he truly and genuinely didn’t know.

That whole split section of that episode had me shaken up kinda (not entirely in a bad way though??) because it jumps around so much in his thoughts and it’s genuinely disorienting and distressing and even though I don’t have a psychotic disorder I still deeply understand how it’s affecting him

well forgive me for assuming the character sitting down half -if not most- of the time has some trouble standing. it doesn’t have to be explicitly stated a character is disabled for them to ya know, be disabled.

like. oh yeah why would I ever use a cane obviously having horrible balance issues doesn’t affect the way I stand at all. I must just be lazy 🙄 /sarcasm

SOUL EATER MADNESS INFECTION AU

Spirit and Marie are taking care of stein. Spirit learned stein calms down if you limit is stimuli so he has horse blinders and earmuffs for him when he needs it. Spirit, stein, and Marie give off polycule vibes but Marie is a lesbian in this, so it’s like 2 gay men and their supportive sweet lesbian friend.

I’ll maybe yap about this more later when I can draw more for this but for now I have these. The short and sweet of it is soul eater but the madness/madness wavelengths from the kishin act like an infection. There is 3 different types/variants.

Madness Touched(not seen here) is just “character experienced a hallucination/vision” it’s like a warning sign you could be infected at a later date. They are not infected but they can understand what the infected are going through. If they resonate well/understand someone well enough they could potentially pull ones out of the infection if it’s early enough, they risk infecting themselves if this goes wrong however(think Maka and Soul dealing with the black blood).

Then the 2nd variant is the Black blood version, this one is bioengineered by Medusa, this one can be overcome with willpower and even give the infected one strength and somewhat immunity against Madness Proper. Ones that don’t overcome it and succumb to the madness will look visibly the same, not transforming like others do, but their mind will be lost to the madness(eg: Crona at some points during both the anime and manga)

And then there is Madness proper, it starts as obsessions and compulsions, then progresses to visions and hallucinations, then psychosis, then transformation in some cases. These madness can be slowed but not 100% cured. The ones in the later stages seem to live in their own world, unaware of what’s going on around them. Think like stein in the last fight he has where Medusa controls him. They can be influenced by the outside world but they are “lost” in a sense. Even if this one cannot be cured, placebo pills do work to “delay” or “prevent” infection since this infection is more mental than anything. Some people are more susceptible to infection, Stein for example. Those with mental illnesses are more vulnerable unfortunately but it doesn’t only target them.

Perhaps if you started thinking of DWMA as a cult, then maybe you'll get an understanding of why I decided to connect him to this song. I don't really know how to explain it otherwise.
