You tell some people "horses don't exist to be ridden" and they look at you like you've grown an extra head.

#I am thinking abt the job I left due to animal welfare concerns #specifically the fact that I was basically told that what mattered most was having as many horses available for kids to ride as possible #and when we had rental horses who were old and in poor health I was still required to send them on rides as much as possible #which heavily contributed to us having a dead horse at the end of the summer #yes I am aware we are a nonprofit with extremely limited resources #and we are renting these horses #and are up against the fact that parents will complain bc they have paid extra for their child to ride #but also. I think it is a serious workplace issue if you are telling staff animal abuse is their job requirement #and there is a reason I am not going back there #actual cowboy grievances #basically if you are sending your child to a horse camp you should be real suspicious of the conditions those horses are subjected to #esp if the horses are rented #and you should be real suspicious if your kid comes back saying horses ‘went to other camps’ or ‘were sick/sent to the vet
