I think that for Pale Visitor the pleasure in their dynamic is the 'will we won't we?' Will Protagonist be alone one of these night? Will he be able to kill Protagonist while playing by his own rules? The anticipation is what keeps him coming back. Though he does say he's here under orders as well, I don't think he'd operate like this if the denial or 'game' weren't part of the pleasure.

While Protagonist is very surly and insistent upon his own isolation, I feel like he could be interprted as internally enjoying the visitations if one were to demand a romantic or sexual lense to this. Pale Visitor enjoys the game, the denial, the potential far more than the man himself. While Protagonist enjoys the terror and the attention, and may growingly become curious about this part of himself (and Pale Visitor as well).

So, as to keep Pale Visitor from losing interest, it would be more interesting to me if Protagonist were to lead in the relationship, trying to gain and keep Pale Visitor's interest where it is fickle past sadism.
