It just annoys me to death how so many parallels were set up between the wyll/ulder and ansur/balduran situations to the point where it absolutely had to be intentional and then the game just goes sikeeeee and it never comes up again? Because it's like, oh cool, this is clearly set up as a mirror for wyll to examine his own situation and to influence his opinion on it.

Which is great! Let's get him percolating on how to weigh a close personal relationship against the lives of the people in Baldur's Gate, because that's where he's going next. See, by act three, the roles of ulder and wyll have reversed. Now ulder is the one potentially under the thrall of a malign influence, now ulder is the one who might be a threat to the city because of it, and now wyll is the one who has to decide what to do. To choose between his father and his city. To decide what risk to the everyday ordinary citizens of Baldur's Gate is worth it.

And then he doesn't and actually that's not the plot at all. Oops.

been playing Baldur's Gate 3 lately and having a blast running a little gnome warlock named Mayhew! he gets into shenanigans on the reg, some of which i intend to draw. like so:

a few sessions ago, there were these cool masks lying unattended on a table in Auntie Ethel's teahouse lair. just sitting there, waiting to be worn! i am not one to pass up an opportunity.

now you might say, "sky, wearing masks a hag left for you to find sounds like a terrible idea" but actually it turned out great

naturally i am blaming it on an in-character decision and not the fact that i press buttons first and ask questions later. poor Mayhew, really earning that low WIS score 😔 maybe he'll learn restraint one day

The sketch! It came to me as a complete idea, more or less.

I am very into moments where a character's will is suborned and they turn on their friends. "Light them up, pretty" moments, to be Caleb Widogastian about it. So, it was a very interesting experience to have this decision backfire so spectacularly! I've been playing Mayhew as someone who will take risky gambles for power -- after all, he's already made several dumb gambles that paid off; that's why he's a warlock.

When I beat Ethel, the game actually handed the conversation to Lae'zel, not Mayhew. I like to think that was because the entire party decided his judgement couldn't be trusted. This was smart of them because right after that he drank one of the hag's potions ("it says parasite! maybe it gives me powers") and permanently debuffed himself to 7 strength. 😎 only the best decisions are made in the saturdaysky household

Playing Durge in act 2 making the failed attempts at redeming Ketheric is really funny if you bank on the idea that Ketheric fucking hated Durge before and Durge did everything in their power to annoy him. Imagine your least favourite coworker comes back from the dead and starts talking about 'redemption'. Like this must be batshit from Ketheric's perspective

Bg3's slayer form having such a strong xenomorph vibe really delights me in that it makes me think of a variant of the "failed!durge is forced to make new bhaalspawn" ending where rather than travelling for it they're strung up like the xenomorph queen in the bhaal temple in a kind of permanent half-slayer state. Do you see my vision
