brandon mull never explained how a hippopotamus was just in our world at the beginning of Beyonders. like that seems like a huge oversight I thought was going to come back later in the story. what is a fantasy creature just doing there in a zoo, and everyone acts like it’s normal? is it from Lyrian???

also for all of you who have read Fablehaven/dragonwatch, I recommend Five Kingdoms by Brandon Mull. The characters younger, the themes darker, but possesses the same joy that makes you read Fablehaven. Also a super loveable main character.
