1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
Do you use the NRaas mods? Has the information on the NRaas website and forum ever been useful to you? If so, a moment of your time please!
I’d like to share the current situation with Simblr – which you can also read about directly from the site owner here:
https://www.nraas.net/community/topic15428
While it seemed like we were entering an era of old-internet revival and indie websites in the fight against the dead-internet, a significant road block has emerged. Prices have inflated drastically for server parts, memory, storage, and server-hosting itself. This puts all non-profit online communities in peril.
As a result, the site owner has opened a Patreon so that the community can help cover the costs of keeping us online.
Important clarification:
The NRaas mods are NEVER going to be paywalled.
The project will remain open-source and free for everyone. Donations are optional.
These mods are still in active development!
The site and mods have been maintained by Chain_Reaction since Twallan's retirement, providing countless updates and support. Lots of cool stuff over there if you haven't updated in a hot minute.
There is no pressure to donate if your situation does not allow for it. Thank you for the consideration!
Long post ahead with information on the situation and some incentives for reaching membership goals.
If you've had some trouble accessing the site over the past week or so:
The situation is directly caused by the greed and encroachment of something we’re all uncomfortably familiar with: AI companies and the companies investing in them (of simmer relevance, that includes EA and Krafton (InZoi)).
NRaas is not the first nor will it be the last to be affected. Website servers already suffer from bots trawling and scraping their content – including your content that you write and share just about anywhere. Now they’re being bought off entirely.
Archives and file-hosting are at high risk. Myrient is a recent example of an archive that went offline for this very reason.
It can feel a bit grim, but I want to assure you that the burden isn't yours to bear as an individual. As a community, it's actually quite easy to become hostile - and more important, unprofitable - to these invasive species as it were.
The past 26 years of modding and storytelling was OVERWHELMINGLY built upon free software, non-profit websites, and shared resources. A few unscrupulous paywallers and corporate greed isn't going to rewrite that history. Greed is the minority - but it does try to eat everything in its path.
That's all I ask - if you enjoy the fruits of The Sims community or enjoy being a part of it, make it just a little more inconvenient to swallow us.
Do not tolerate GenAI in our community spaces.
Do not support EA or Krafton. Let obscurity and irrelevancy devour them.
Do participate in the community wherever you think you'd find a little piece of purpose - make a blog for your stories, come chat with us in the Chatterbox forum at NRaas, make your first mod.
Lastly:
In a separate post, I'll be posting some CC incentives that will be released as milestones are reached. This content will not be paywalled - it will be posted for free as thanks to the community.
This is being offered on my own accord and is not the official reward for any particular tier. None of the proceeds are going to me!
Please look out for that over the weekend, I still need to take all of the preview screenshots which is perhaps the least exciting part of making CC.
And thank you, on behalf of the volunteers at NRaas.
the reblogs are disabled but I feel this IN MY SOUL so here is the post. Don't apologize to printers, they were made to torture you and drain you of money and patience
ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
I know that a lot of people like them but I personally find survival mechanics in video games to just be annoying. I have to keep track of how hungry I am and it doesn’t even taste good? How dare you.
I have to keep track of my thirst and I don’t even get the irl pleasure of sipping down on an ice cold glass of water. This is just added annoyance with no satisfaction.
Yes chowing down on this alien steak makes my game avatar less hungry but I don’t get to taste that alien steak so I’m just annoyed trying to keep a bunch of extra bars full.
The sims are different because I’m playing god. In a lot of games you’re roleplaying. If I’m taking care of someone else I don’t mind it. But when it’s supposed to be me it’s annoying. Because I didn’t get to eat that potato.
I do like the survival mode in Fallout 4. It adds a bunch of extra mechanics beyond just keeping the hunger and thirst up. I only really play fallout 4 on survival anymore.
This is why I think the games where survival is "fun" for those that are NOT survival game buffs (like myself) are the ones where the food does more than just fill up your hunger bar.
In Stardew Valley, food gives you energy to continue exploring and farming, and the energy bar is there to give you a reason to upgrade your farm and automate its production. Different foods give you more energy, so it pays to explore more, get more recipes, invest in your farm for access to a bigger variety of ingredients.
In Terraria, you don't have a hunger bar, but eating food provides a buff that makes your health regen faster and increases all stats (and better foods give bigger bonuses), which is huge for boss fights and exploring faraway places for longer. Plus it is a way to reward people that spend ages fishing, since a lot of the fishing loot is just fish you can cook (instead of "tool fishes", fishes used in potions for buffs, or loot crates).
Other survival games tend to just give you a health bar that you have to keep full; and the hunger bar is literally just added difficulty. This is why more in-depth survival games add more bars for you to deal with. Subnautica, for example, to sell you on the idea that the world you are is inhospitable, gives you both a hunger and a thirst bar—this is not a world where you just exist, you have to keep track of yourself. And even then, they have a reminder before either bar reaches absolute zero, so you don't end up losing health (the thing you need to survive random attacks from huge predatory fish). Don't Starve has health, hunger and sanity for you to deal with, and some food items interact with all three in both negative and positive ways. Project Zomboid, which to me is the apex of survival games, has you constantly dealing with hunger, exhaution, boredom, panic, body temperature; healing is time consuming and resouce intensive, and so is getting a steady supply of food.
All that is freaking stressful! And a lot of people play games to get rid of stress, not to be even more stressed! (not me though, I love being stressed in videogames)
One thing most people don't realize about Gazebos is how bloodthirsty they used to be until the 1930s or so. It used to be that in order to appease your average small town gazebo you had to feed it 4-5 marching bands a year, or roughly 2 dozen barbershop groups. Noawadays? Throw it a steely dan cover act every 6 months, maybe a bridal party every few years if you're actively trying to court its favor, and you're pretty much in the clear. And the crazy thing is nobody knows why they calmed down, or that their appetite for flesh won't return to its 19th century heights one day. It's actually an increasingly popular theory among modern Gazebo researchers that we're at the tail end of a period of dormancy and it's only a matter of time until they start howling for blood again. And if/when that does happen there's the question of whether our modern zeeb-keepers are really ready for the task of booking enough sacrificial acts to meet that increased demand. Guild policy has gotten lax in the century since the heyday of Dark Pavillionism and a lot of local keepers refuse to even look at newer research that threatens to upset their status quo. Kind of scary to think about
reblogging "writers, instead of asking ai for help," except you're literally asking it to do dumb shit for you like write about mt fuji and talk to you in spanish. congrats on wasting water and destroying the environment lmao makes sense
I use ChatGPT once in a while just to test what it’s capable of as I pointed out in that post you’re referencing. I’m not a regular user and in that same post I pointed out how I’m not impressed with it and don’t understand why people think that it’s good. Like. I don’t think you fully read that post that I made. Either that or you’re just trying to make me angry. And I’m not angry. I’m just under the impression that you can’t read.
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the doctor down the street who gives me my T shots
in a clinic so small that it's just two rooms
was excited for me when she said my voice had dropped
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the receptionist who could see that I was a man
didn't bat an eyelash when I asked to see the gynecologist
and called me sir when he asked how I wanted to pay
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but the barber cuts my hair exactly how I want it
and never gave me strange looks for being in a men's salon
not even back when I didn't pass as one
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but my friends have always gendered me correctly
and stick to it even when it confuses other people
and my friend's little sibling calls me older brother in Kannada
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but my dog learned my new name quicker than the humans
and she runs to give me a kiss when she's told to
without being confused about who's being referred to
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but I can feel the Adam's apple growing in my throat
and my muscles getting stronger, and my smile more real
and I'm growing a beard, and I talk more freely
yes, India made legal gender change impossible
but I'm here, and I'm alive, and so are you
and there are good people, people who care
and don't let them make you forget that--
you are not alone.
Happy pride month everyone always remember that the sinkhole has an ecosystem large enough to house not only insects but likely several species of small birds or mammals
realizing many people don't know about infinity train creator owen dennis' among us show from years ago, which has been trapped in unreleased limbo all this time and was just dumped on streaming this morning with no advertisement. they don't even know about its weirdly stacked cast
