[100% Reboot]
It wasn’t a challenger. Despite her wish not being granted, Caitlin was not disappointed. Not at all. It was also not one of fellow elites. Caitlin was especially thankful it wasn’t a colleagues of hers, especially Grimsley.
No, it was neither of those, however her visitor was someone she would much rather see.
"Thorton" she stated his name, a hint of confusion and surprise with her usual gentle tone. A small smile formed on her lips at the sight of the male as he stepped into her room, shutting the door to her room behind him with an audible click.
Caitlin straightened up on her couch, pulling her legs underneath her to sit up. Her Musharna mimicked it’s trainers movements, shuffling itself forward to sit on her lap. Immediately, her hand went back to stroking it’s head as she did before. With her Musharna drifting back to sleep she turned her attention back Thorton. She couldn’t help but be surprised by his sudden appearance, though not at all unhappy about it.
Did they arrange to meet and she had forgotten? No no, she was sure she hadn’t. Infact, she was positive of that. Had something happened at the Frontier? The mere thought unsettled her, though she was sure if that had been the case Darach would have called to tell her so. He called her on a regular basis over the smallest of things or generally just to chat, if it had been serious he would have contacted her in a heartbeat.
About to question his sudden out of character appearance, Caitlin halted her words at Thorton’s answering her silent question.
Merely visiting? Ah. “I see" she responded, giving a light nod with her answer, “it’s wonderful to see you, Thorton" she added, her tone notably cheerier than usual. Despite the risk to both of their jobs it ran by such a visit, Caitlin couldn’t help but be delighted at seeing Thorton again.
Plus, Alder was out of town and she was doubtful that her colleagues would let slip of his visit. Well, that applied to Marshal and Shauntal, Grimsley on the other hand she wasn’t entirely sure of. With the various men and women that came in and out of his quarters at all hours, it was obvious he had no concern for the rules that they were held by. She hoped that extended to tattle tailing on others.
Besides, it was just a visit. Nothing suspicious at all.
A colourful bunch. An amused smirk flashed across her lips at Thorton’s choice of words. They were not exactly the words she would choose to describe her colleagues, especially where Grimsley was concerned.
"I guess you could call them that" she simply stated, momentarily lifting her hand from her Musharna’s head to pat the space beside her, motioning for him to sit. The couch at the end of her bed wasn’t the largest, made for three people at best, however it was the only place to sit besides her bed.
With the lack of visitors Caitlin received in her room, seating or the lack of it wasn’t a priority.
Disregarding that thought, she went back to stroking her Musharna’s head that had started to stir from the absence of her hand.
"How are you?" she questioned and a moment later adding, “and the others?" meaning the rest of the Battle Frontier.
Thorton relaxed slightly when it was clear that Caitlin wasn't bothered by his impromptu visit, and took the seat next to her that she was offering. "It is nice to see you too. Obviously. Hence... the point of the visit." He gave a slightly lopsided smile, knowing he sounded awkward, but also knowing that by this point Caitlin wouldn't have kept interacting with him if she minded that much.
He wondered if sitting by her was really a good idea. It wasn't like they were doing anything by sitting next to each other and talking, but... As much as he tried to avoid thinking about it, Thorton's mind continuously went to Grimsley. There was no reason for Grimsley to talk to Darach, yet he still fantasized unpleasantly about it far too often, because perhaps there was a reason. Namely, the fact that Grimsley would probably do anything and go out of his way to humiliate Thorton.
Best not to worry about that until it happened. If it happened.
Lost in thought, Thorton almost didn't hear her question. "How am I? Mm... the same as ever, I suppose. Still no taller, unfortunately, but one can dream." He looked over at her with a smile to make sure she knew he was joking and not actually bitter about it. At least, not that bitter. "As far as the others... we are all eternally sick of each other, but there is nothing new about that either, is there?" A shrug. "We make it work, somehow, though sometimes I wonder which of us will be first to be murdered by the others, considering how much we argue."
He scowled slightly, remembering something. "About a week ago we had a rather intense heat wave throughout many parts of Sinnoh, so I ended up rewiring and manually siphoning most of the Battle Frontier's air conditioning to the Battle Factory so my machines would not overheat... needless to say, when the rest found out, they were far from pleased. As if I really care if Palmer's brain overheats - not like he even uses it half the time. But Argenta scolded me in front of everyone, so I had to relinquish my grasp on the matter." He sighed. "It was almost as uncomfortable as the week before, when we had a lengthy group meeting about Dahlia's unfortunate tendency to battle challengers while slightly intoxicated." Another sigh escaped his lips, and he turned away from Caitlin. "I apologize for rambling excessively. There... is really no one else to relay these stories to."
"How about yourself?" Changing the subject would probably be good before he ended up recounting any more uncomfortable stories. "Still struggling with the Porygon, or has it settled?"
