ā we used to hear the stars, too.
Edna St. Vincent Millay, from Collected Poems of Edna S. V. Millay; āI Think I Should Have Loved You Presently,ā
Blood flows onto the holy ground as you are praised for a sacrifice you never chose to make.
We are here, we are here, we are here, we are here...
The Signs and Legends:
Aries: The first pilgrims to cross the great sea, lost under the light of unfamiliar stars. A song to the churning waves. The first and only of the leviathans to speak to mankind. A glowing lure in the dark, guiding the caravan of ships to their new home.
Taurus: A white mare, standing taller than any war-horse. A shepherd to the dead, hooves falling on the sodden earth like thunderclaps, war drums across the void to the ghosts of ancestral warrior khans. Unshakable steeds that fear neither death nor pain.
Gemini: A captured girl in the court of a warrior king. A shattered elbow. A vengeful spirit, marred by pollution and war. Living armor made from the bones of a god.Ā
Cancer: Settlers and exiles driven to the south. Exposure and starvation, lost in the mountains. Refuge from the summer storms found in a cave. Something ancient and forgotten and hungry, eight legs and eight eyes, invisible in the dark. A mother in mourning finds a new brood and teaches them to weave as generations of her mothers did.
Leo: An evil sorcerer king, and the nine queens that rose to overthrow him. A javelin enchanted with sealing curse piercing an evil heart. A capital city built at the center of a lake where nine rivers converge, impossible to besiege. Unholy remains guarded by the mummies of the old warrior queens.
Virgo: A crumbling temple at the heart of the jungle. A lone adventurer who met the slumbering feathered serpent at its heart. A game of riddles, an offering of blood, ancient secrets revealed.Ā
Libra: An empire built in concord with an old goddess of the sea. Treachery. Heartbreak. Entire cities swallowed by the waves, save for a single young boy, bestowed with gills.Ā
Scorpio: A well dug too deep. Voices from the dark, offers of power to an orphan prince. A treacherous bargain struck. A sacrifice made. Fertile valleys rent by frigid winds into lifeless tundra. Warnings from mournful spirits in the endless blizzard to stay away.
Ophiuchus: Dreams of flight. An old monk that lives in an inaccessible monastery atop a mountain shrouded in fog. Dreams of flight. Release from the cycle of frailty and death. Dreams of flight.
Sagittarius: A masterless knight from across the sea. Imitations of foreign armor and weapons. A kingdom built on the works of a land none of them had ever seen. A strange familiarity, when travelers met centuries later. Tales of crimes and a single exile.
Capricorn: A primitive land ripe for conquer. A colony fort, stocked full of soldiers. Insult, atrocity, rivers running red. There shouldnāt be storms this time of year. There canāt be storms this time of year. Something perched on the watchtower blotting out the light of the moon, feathers large as swords.
Aquarius: A grove of old oak trees. Fresh, clear water flows from knots in the trunks, pooling in the center of the clearing. Naturally occurring holy water not tied to any divine power.
Pisces: The palace on the hill, now empty. The mad sister of the king, living in seclusion. Secret vaults full of cruel experiments. Iron gates sealed shut by fire. A vengeful monster that still roams the halls.Ā

Give up.
You cannot save them all.
Give up.
Do not sacrifice in vain.
Lay your head to sleep, child.
We have watched you as you gave your life away. Who exactly are you trying to save? Not everyone deserves your grace.
The Old Gods Still Live Among Us | Loki
āOur real discoveries come from chaos, from going to the place that looks wrong and stupid and foolish.āĀ
The easiest rule to remember when looking for Loki is that if there are children or those ostracized heās not far behind. The hardest rule to remember when looking for Loki is that he refuses to be boxed into predictable patterns that arenāt his own making.
These days, heās not the mother of āpeople that are perfectly nice but just misunderstood.ā Heās the mother of monsters.Ā Heās the mother of those who have been hurt. Not just the ones who recovered, but the ones who lost a bit of their minds and selves in the process. Heās the mother of those with mental illness, and not just those who can hide it and keep it under control. Heās the mother of the angry and the desperate and the lost. Heās the mother of outsiders regardless of whether they make any attempt to fit in.
Blessed he is, as even in the modern world, his presence is still needed and many of his children still make the world recoil in disgust and fear. That is, after all, what a monster is. What Loki is, in some respects. Chaos and death are intricate things in the world, to which him and his daughter Hel are lucky.
āGabriel walks the streets, an Angel of the Lord dressed in the skin of man, but police are too afraid of his black skin, or when he appears as a Native American, speaking loudly at Standing Rock, holding up a sign at a Black Matters Protest. Gabriel attends the protests and the meetings, a man of god with the fiery strength of his, trying to make a difference in this suffering world, knowing that all man are created equal and yet they beg to differ arguing over each other. Gabriel is a woman protesting for feminism, here, there, everywhere that Gabriel can speak, but no one listens to this Angel of God, shouting at Gabriel, āNot all Menā and Gabriel screams back, āYou have missed the point!ā Gabriel is a Buddhist nun who strives for peace, wanting to bring humanity compassion and hope, speaking regularly to the cameras like the Dalai Lama. All Gabriel wants to do is bring humanity back to the fold, to knowing that it is one with the cosmos, but Gabrielās message is drowned out in the bitter hate and the anger and the skewing of media, and humans lie and lie to each other, breaking each otherās heart as they ignore the suffering of environment, animal, and fellow man. Gabriel appears as Prophet among the men, but no one listens, they just turn their ears away saying, God doesnāt exist and why should they love their enemy who has tried to oppress them and didnāt God do the same kind of shit that isnāt progressive? Just look at the Bible they say and they spew forth hate for each other, never wanting to listen or feel.ā

Modern Gabriel
Leanne Thach
Darling, the only languages he understands are love and pain.
āThe old gods are deadā they tell you. You smile and nod and wipe out another glass. Your eyes dart to the old man in the corner booth. You never see him come, but you always see him leave. Each night a new young lover on his arm. You pretend not to see his wife watching with jealousy blazing in her eyes and peacock feathers printed on her dress. Her sharpened nails tap, tap, tapping a beat you can hear over the din. āIf they were still around, where are they?ā They continue with a wild wave of their arm. The man next to them looks up and grins and raises his glass at you in a toast and buys them another round. Itās only after heās turned away you realize his teeth were too sharp and that the glint in his eye was something more than delight. On the stage a young man sings. Heās there every night with his golden guitar and his golden skin and his golden hair. He sings of love and loss and boys who fly too high, only to fall. You know the song, he plays it almost every night. His sister stands in the corner, watching, on edge. You keep half an eye on her. She seems constantly in motion yet when you focus, she is still. Last week she broke a manās arm. You never saw her move. 'The old gods are dead.ā They say with finality. You look around the room and meet old and tired eyes in hungry faces. 'Maybe,ā you begin and pause as the room seems to go quiet, holding its breath. 'Maybe you arenāt looking hard enough.ā -gods never die
