Itâs been an emotional week. I wanted to share this encounter I had with a very hateful man on the Pittsburgh bus because it reminds me that there are brave people in this world. Letâs all do everything we can to stand up for each other.

im in philosophy and were talking about how you can doubt everythingâs existence except for your own consciousness and the guy that sits in front of me just turns around tears streaming down his face and goes âi am on so many drugsâ
Paper. There was so much paper. In celebration of A Court of Frost and Starlight release, I made a papercraft of the starfall scene from ACOMAF! This was a defining moment; not because of the awareness or longing, but laughter. It finally broke the year-long tension between these two â and all it took was some splattered star spirit to the face!
Wow. Talk about attention to detail.

You donât hold on to power by being everyoneâs friend. And among the faeries, lesser and High Fae alike, a firm hand is needed. Weâre too powerful, and too bored with immortality, to be checked by anything else
âpersephone sits in a courtroom dress as green as summer trees her lipstick red as blood her golden crown sits on the table and hermes stares her down âdid you eat the seeds of your own free will?â a dagger fashioned into a question hades flinches, front-row seat; thanatos his defense attorney demeter straightens in the audience a flower blooms in her sun-browned hair her curls a halo round her daughterâs face and persephone smiles âi did.â shocked gasps in the courtroom the jury whispers amongst themselves deities, spirits, nymphs, and ghosts all here to judge the king of hell âwhy?â persephone looks into her husbandâs eyes lord and lady, king and queen she takes her crown and settles it upon her summer curls âcenturies ago,â she says, every word a titan-sized whisper, âi was only a girl. look at me now.â persephone stands in a courtroom and hades smiles for here, she is a queenâ

Honestly? Its about time.
âi. Hermes comes to you first, on a rest stop somewhere between Argentine and Peru. He speaks a Spanish full of shhs, but itâs the wings that catch your eye. Youâve never seen anyone look so silly. He doesnât even try to warn you away, just clicks his heels together and says, âNo going back now, cariño.â ii. Maybe you expected Hecate next, but there are no more crossroads from here. You get Aphrodite in an empty parking lot, which is not much of a surprise. Youâve always known love and lust to come in the quiet, in the dangerous. âTrying to find me?â she asks, all mouth, âOr trying to get away from them?â You have no time for her games. iii. Athena slides into your booth and steals one of your fries. McDonaldâs has never been a favorite, but you both have other things to consider. âI thought you were going to grow up better,â she grimaces at the watered down soda, then at the state of your clothes. âSo did I,â you answer, âbut life happens.â She lifts an eyebrow, and the world flickers. You see history in her eyes, blood and sorrow in her hands. Itâs the epitome of survival, of all you never knew how to become. âThatâs a poor manâs excuse.â iv. Itâs Hestia who welcomes you back. She waits in the middle of your old room, as the clock shines 3am red against her skin. She takes your hands, and the heat seeps into the stiffness of your fingers. âI knew you would come home.â She looks like your sister, which is easier; your sister always understood leaving, always had the same restlessness coursing just underneath her skin. âThe world wonât give you peace,â she explains, maybe a little too late. âYouâre taking the fear with you.ââ

my boss: why are you late again this is the fifth time
me: oh I was down by the stream, wailing and pining for my changeling wife who isnât due back in our realm for a month. yknow, just lashing the water with my hands and thinking about how if I drowned and was picked clean by birds, my skeleton would eventually be indistinguishable from pieces of river buffed stone
my boss: please stop listening to hozier
having parents that were really angry and petty and abusive when you were young is weird, because it makes part of you grow up to want to be kind, to generate good things, to be a source of peace and wellbeing for others; but it makes another part of you grow up to be quick, and sharp, and spiteful, and thatâs always the part that shows itself first in a hard situation, so itâs a struggle between your hateful gut reactions and your wish to not add any more misery to the world. itâs a hard balance, and the people who really, really know me - i know they see that anger flash in my eyes before i quiet it, if i quiet itâŠi want to overcome years of conditioning, and with gentle, constant force, i know iâll mellow it. it just takes time.
