North American F-82 Twin Mustang, America’s last piston-powered fighter plane to be ordered into production.
Effectively two P-51 Mustang fighters joined by a single wing and horizontal stabilizer, which arrived too late to serve in the long-range escort role it was indented for during WWII, nevertheless it continued to see service as an all-weather, day/night interceptors with the use of the AN/APG-28 (F model) and SCR-720C18 (G model) ventral-mounted radars.
Ultimately, it had a very short life-spam, from 1945 to 1953, getting replaced by more capable jets as time went on.
