The jar filled with folded pieces of paper was the first thing Dean saw as he made his way into the kitchen. “Alright, you’ve piqued my interest. What’s with the jar?” Dean asked, stepping up behind Cas at the counter and wrapping his arms around Cas’ chest.
Cas turned in his embrace, pressing their foreheads together gently. “My turn to surprise you today,” Cas replied quietly.
“God, I love you,” Dean said, pulling Cas impossibly closer and peppering kisses across his cheeks and across the bridge of his nose.
“You don’t even know what the surprise is yet,” Cas laughed, bubbling and happy as Dean finally planted his lips against Cas’ mouth.
“We’ll go on then, Angel. Surprise me,” Dean hummed in content.
Linking the fingers together, Cas guided Dean towards the table and gently nudged the jar in front of him. Dean reached out, trailing his touch over the silver lid of the jar, just barely making out the scrawl of Cas’ writing on the pages.
“This is… it’s… they’re all the-” Cas trailed off as he glanced away, swallowing thickly before flickering his gaze back up to Dean again. Snagging Cas’ hand, Dean squeezed the angel’s fingers softly. A grounding. A confession of love.
“All the notes I wrote you over the years. When I wanted to tell you but didn’t know how. The moments where I didn’t know how to describe what I was feeling even as I fell for you over and over again. A hundred ways I’ve said I love you over the years,” Cas whispered.
“Cas,” Dean breathed out, word shaking on his lips as he grasped hold of Cas’ hand even tighter.
Cas smiled, tear-eyed and beautiful. Dean had never been more in love in his entire life. “I wanted to give this to you on our wedding night. But I never got time. And I’ve waited for the right moment since then. Our anniversary.”
The emotions felt like a wave, crashing through Dean’s chest and bursting out from his heart. Fumbling with the material of Cas’ tie, Dean tugged Cas into a kiss. Then another kiss. And another.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
Dean pressed the unspoken words over and over again against Cas’ lips. But it wasn’t enough. How could it ever be enough compared to something this monumental? “God, Cas. Sweetheart,” Dean finally gasped out, mind spinning and heart racing.
“Is this okay?” Cas asked, quiet and unsure.
“It’s perfect. You are perfect.” Dean kissed him again, this time slow and gentle. No words could capture this moment. So Dean poured every ounce of his love into kissing Cas until they were both gasping for air. “My Angel. I love you.”
