They say rain can stop a drought, but what if there weren't enough?

If all the rain had dried up, all the creeks and waterholes empty. If all the crops had died, crops which once were plenty.
If all the shelter had fallen and all the happiness taken, you would still find something to take away to ensure I was still left breaking.

Rip up all the carpet, break the tiles on the floors.
Smash all the glasses, throw all the plates,
Stomp on my heart, there's nothing left but hates...
The world has turned on its axis, everything's upside down, there's no use for a smile here, all you've left me is a frown.
Your selfishness and greed, your lust and your unkindness, left me in pieces on the ground, how could I be so blinded?

The world's gone into lockdown with people dropping like flies,
We're locked inside our houses and you here them, all their sighs!
With fighting at our woolies and panick in the streets,
With online games trying to keep people in, that and uber eats.
And before you too start panicking, I'm here to ask you why?
Why are you stocking up on dunny roll both 2 and 3 ply?
Why are you desperately shopping for pasta and rice too?
When will we all stop freaking out about the Chinese flu?
I couldn't even buy frozen chips because I had veggies already in my hand,
Yet during our lockdown I see pictures of people hanging out with toes in the sand,
They say the numbers are rising high and that we should stay away,
Families keeping their children home just to take them to the park to play!?
So are we taking this seriously or is it all a joke?
People screaming how worried they are about their lungs as they exhale their smoke.
The death toll up at thousands and all we have to do to stay safe is stay inside,
But how can we do that in a democracy full of stupidity, I mean pride!

Years have past, things have changed and still I feel the connection,
Though we have plenty of differences, you are my perfection.

When the light becomes scary but the darkness doesn’t give peace,
When the sky is no longer blue and the puzzles missing a piece.
When the tv has no signal and the lights no longer turn on,
When even the smallest of feathers now ways a ton.
When there is a hole in the boat and it starts to sink,
When you wash all your whites and they turn out pink.
When you are wearing fluoro but you still aren’t being seen,
When it ain’t even a drought but there is not one bit of grass that is green.
When he has had absolutely enough but the bully won’t let him be,
That’s what it feels like right now to be me.

Men used to stand up, so perfectly straight and brave,
They used to put their family and country first, it was war that would deprave.
They had no time for bullshit no time to lie or hide,
They fought with everything they had, they would fight even with hands tied.
These men now in our country couldn’t even defend one another,
The men used to protect, now some wouldn’t help their family, let alone a brother.
They do it to themselves, they allow technology and pride to take over,
The hatred, the stupidity, the idiocy, now a brother ain’t even a brother.
We’ve become the type of people not one person can rely on,
Secrets, laziness and anger to the ton.
What’s the point of being a family if you can’t trust the people in it,
They say people change but how can that be true when it’s been years, not just a minute

House to house, room to room, everything has changed,
No life in this place, it’s all dead and rearranged.
Fight for what you believe in, do what you know is right,
Conflicted in my mind is that question should I choose fight or flight?
Protecting what we had, even though what we had is not there,
My heart, my mind, my memories, once filled with happiness now bare.
Your addiction is that stupid box when it used to be just me,
You don’t know it yet but you are ruining our once perfect family.
We have a gorgeous new girl bringing a light where it is all dark,
But the pain that you are causing still continues to make its mark.
How can you not see the addiction, when will you wake up and see we are here?
For some people it’s so easy, but maybe you won’t see us til we disappear?

With memories and secrets burnt in my memory never to be erased.
Loneliness has become my friend and you are no where to be found,
Been waiting now for years for you to come around.
They say be careful what you wish for but what’s the point of wishing,
When no one answers your prayers and at hope, you’re still fishing?
Are we lovers or partners, or are we just room mates?
No affection, no time spent, our relationship, it deflates.

If we promised to never come back, would you really even care?

A jacket lent, hours well spent.

Endless days, always finding new ways,

And yet though I know it oh so well, I don’t get any of this from you.
Is it unreasonable to wish just some of those things could be for us too?

All I do is try to please you,

I set myself up to fail when I started doing it all,

You come home with a quick hello then off you go again,
No help, no romance, no nothing, you are continually hurting my brain.
All I ask is for a little help, maybe a flower every now and then,
But I’m met with a different person than the one I loved back when.
