Without a doubt Elliott Smith. He died way too soon and his music spoke to so many people.
I found out about him years after he passed away, and the love that I formed for his music is unmatched by anyone else. I found his music at kind of the perfect time too. Was the most depressed I had ever been my entire life, and when I found his music, almost every single one of his songs spoke to me in one way or another.
I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow.

Not only am I like really emotionally attached to his music as a listener but like, as a musician too. Something about his tunes have this 'Fuck you I'm gonna play whatever I want and how I want' attitude that just spoke to me and made me want to do the same. I was so afraid to sing and play fancy chords up until I discovered his songs and started learning how to play them. He definitely changed my way of how I approach music, and I always reference him as inspiration.
This was a super long answer but that just goes to show how much he means to me and to many others as well.
