Monday. Everyone's favorite day of the week.
And yes, that is said with sarcasm.
It's been three days since Gojo ditched you at his stupid frat party, and you're still not recovered enough for Psych class today. If you're being honest, the wicked hangover you woke up to on Saturday afternoon wasn't what bothered you. It was the slew of messages you saw on your lock screen, all of which were from Gojo.
You never ended up answering, opting to let him wallow in his own misery for the weekend, assuming he was even miserable. But now, with your 10:00 AM class not too far ahead of you, you're going to be faced with him whether you like it or not.
After dragging yourself from your comfy bed and getting dressed, you make breakfast for Alex—a little good morning gift for when she woke up for her own 10:00 AM class—before heading out the door. Alex always seems to wake up barely 15 minutes before her class and still arrives on time. You put your earbuds in and walk the short distance to your favorite coffee shop on campus. However, your steps slow and you pause only a few steps into the small building. The guy behind the counter, another college student you've come to know during your time as a regular here, waves to you. You pay him no mind.
Your eyes are fixed on the big head of white hair that's currently not facing you, presumably waiting for his coffee at the pickup counter. "What are you doing here?"
You see his shoulders tense as he slowly turns around, eyes locking on yours. "Oh, look at that! You're alive!" he drawls sarcastically, narrowing his eyes at you as you approach. "You ignored my texts all weekend. I was worried about you."
"Tch. Were you worried when you left me alone at your stupid party?" you quip back. "And don't avoid my question, Gojo—"
You blink. "Yeah, right, whatever." You shake your head. "Since when did you come here?"
He shrugs. "Since today. I got you an apology coffee."
As if on cue, your friend behind the counter calls out for Gojo, placing what you know to be your favorite coffee order at the pickup station. He walks up to the counter and grabs it, descretely dropping a $20 bill into the tip box. The staff doesn't notice, but you do, your eyes—albeit reluctantly—softening at his generosity.
He makes his way back to you, and you two exit the shop together and make the route to class. "For you," he hands you the plastic cup. You side-eye him, but accept it anyways. "I'm still upset with you, Toru." You take a left.
Gojo takes a right. You both pause.
"Where're you going?" he sassed.
You blink, glaring at him. "To class? Where the fuck are you going?"
"To class," he echoes. "This way's quicker."
You shake your head, humming in disapproval. "No, it's not. I took that route on the first day and it's two minutes longer."
You roll your eyes. "Hmph. Fine. You take your way, I'll take mine. We'll see who's there first."
He scoffs. "What is this, another bet or something?"
Gojo blinks, eyes widening fractionally as he realizes his slip-up. You, thankfully, don't catch on. "Whatever. Meet you there." He continues his path right, you to the left.
As expected, you arrive first, leaning against the wall outside the lecture hall. When you see Gojo emerge from the nearby stairs, you smile as he groans. "Told you, cocky. What's my prize?"
He grumbles, finding your side as you two enter class. "You already got the coffee. Don't get greedy."
The pair of you make your way to your usual spot: the middle row, all the way to the leftmost two seats. As you shuffle into the empty row—it's always empty save for your bodies—you speak. "I'm still made at you, by the way. And you have yet to apologize." You sit down on the inside, removing your notebook and some pens. You decide to do blue-themed notes today, though why the color speaks to you at the moment, you don't know.
Gojo mimics your actions, his own weathered notebook and the pen you gave him last week finding their spot on the table. "Still mad?"
He rolls his eyes, clicking the pen open. "Why?"
A scoff escapes your lips. "Seriously? You ask me why?!" You stare at him for a moment, but he won't meet your gaze. "Well, for one, you promised me you'd stick with me the whole time. That's the only reason I showed up. But then you abandoned me the minute the party kicked into full-swing, Toru!"
He finally lifts his eyes, meeting your pleading ones. "And second, you had the nerve to be mad at me when you woke up hungover to no end the next day and found out I left!" you add. "You seriously got mad that I didn't text back in twenty minutes when I, too, was drunk and hungover and sleeping?"
"…I didn't know you were sleeping."
"Still, there was no reason to be mad at me. I did nothing but be nice to you and talk to your friends and socialize like you'd asked."
"I'm— I'm sorry," he finally says, eyes never straying from yours. "I guess once I got drunk, I shifted, which shouldn't…um…happen. So, yeah. Sorry."
Your eyes narrow. "Intense eye contact is usually a sign of lying, Mr. Gojo," you lilt. "Have you forgotten which classroom we're sitting in?"
Right. Psychology. "Swear, I'm not lying. I am sorry, on god," he says. "I mean, I even got you an apology coffee before you even ran into me! I was sorry from the get-go, you just don't wanna admit it."
"I'm serious!" he pleads, making a playful scene of clasping his hands together in a praying motion. "Please, please, please, please, please believe me~"
Despite yourself, you giggle a little. "Okay, okay, just shut up," you say. "You're on probation. But I forgive you."
He grins. "I knew you would. Just to show my thanks, I'll actually take notes today."
You hum uncertainly. "Will you?"
A few minutes later, with class having begun by now, Gojo leans over and whispers to you. "You've come out of your shell, ya know."
You glance at him. "Huh?"
"Well, last week, you were so shy," he elaborates. "You've spoken more in the past 5 days than like…ever."
"You hadn't even heard of me before last week," you remind him. "So how would you know?"
He only shrugs. "You forget I've been in class with you for a month. And yet you haven't even attempted to befriend anyone in this big, full lecture hall. You're a shy one, Y/L/N. But you're different with me."
He smiles. "But me, too."
You blush softly, ducking your head—a habit you'd likely never break. "I dunno, Toru. Something's different about you. I didn't expect you to be so nice."
At that, he feels a small twinge of guilt. Surely if you knew why he was suddenly so talkative with you, if you knew he had $2,000 and his dignity on the line, you wouldn't be saying that. "You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, princess," is all he says, remaining silent for the remainder of the lecture.
Class passes quickly. So quick, in fact, that Gojo didn't even have time to take notes! Crazy, isn't it?
You stare disappointedly at his blank page once class is dismissed, shoving your own 5 pages worth of nots into your tote bag. "'I'll actually take notes today,' he said," you tease.
Gojo scoffs, slinging his backpack—embroidered with the Kappa Sigma logo in the center—over one shoulder. "You and I both knew I was lying. I expect those texted to me."
"Not if you don't say please," you smile.
"I've said enough of my pleases for the day, princess," he drawls, joining you in the sea of bodies leaving the hall. You say a quick thank you to the professor on your way out, making Gojo laugh. "Goodie two-shoes."
"I'm nice, there's a difference," you reply, spotting Alex waiting for you at a nearby bench and, on the other end, Geto waiting for Gojo. You and Gojo approach the pair, who both stand up and join their respective friends.
He smirks. "Sean's girl."
"Her name's Alex," you tell him, though you suspect he already knew that and is being ignorant on purpose.
"Tch. I know." As you suspected.
Alex rolls her eyes. "C'mon, Y/N." She tugs incessantly at your arm, and you fall into step beside her.
"Bye, Toru," you call to the white-haired boy, who only salutes in response. He and Geto walk the opposite direction.
Their two broad frames walk in an almost-synchronized manner. Geto glances at Gojo, smirking. "You two look cozy," he comments.
Gojo scoffs. "We are not."
Geto laughs. "What's wrong?"
The other shakes his head. "She made me apologize about Friday; I bought her a coffee beforehand, but nooo that wasn't enough," Gojo complains, though it's lighthearted. "She seems to be getting comfortable, though. She's a lot more talkative."
"So, you think you'll leave for winter break with 2-grand weighing your pockets down?" Geto queries.
Gojo sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose as they ascend some stairs. "I still don't like the idea of betting over some innocent chick, dude—"
"Doesn't matter, Mr. President. You shook on it, you gotta follow through with it—or give me my $2,000 and forfeit."
"Yeah, you're not getting 2-grand."
Geto tsks. "You're filthy rich, you can afford it. You just don't want me to win."
Gojo doesn't respond to that, silently thinking about how he's going to tell you. Yes, that's it. He's going to tell you. Maybe you'll be understanding; you seem like too much of a sweetheart to be mad at him. Perhaps you'll date and fuck him for a bit just so he can win, then you two can sever ties and never speak again—
"Helloooo, I'm talking to you!"
Gojo blinks, glaring at Geto and swatting his hand away from where it still hovers in the air after flicking Gojo's forehead. "Shut up, dick."
Geto's eyes roll. "I was saying, does she really not suspect anything? She doesn't find it weird that a random frat president in her class suddenly befriended her and is inviting her to shit?"
"Probably not, considering I 'befriended' her before our stupid bet even began," Gojo responds, recalling how he sat beside you, asked you for a pen, asked you for your notes…
"She must be so fucking naive," Geto laughs.
"Could you stop talking about her like she's got fucking rocks for brains, dude?" Gojo scoffs. "You can be such a fucking misogynistic ass sometimes, you know that—"
"You love me, shut up," Geto teases.
"So fucking annoying," Gojo grumbles under his breath. "I've got class at 1:00. Don't wake me 'til then."
"Babe. I don't know anymore…"
"About what?" Alex's sudden comment from her bed makes you frown, spinning in your swivel chair to face her.
"Gojo," she clarifies. "I honestly think Operation Get Y/N A Boyfriend needs to be put on pause. His friend, Geto, was it?" You nod. "He's in my philosophy class, and he kept asking me about you. Like, in a weird way."
She shrugs. "Asking me what you thought of Gojo, if you thought you two were close, if you thought he was your friend. Weird, right?"
You nod in agreement. "Yeah, weird… You're looking at me lile there's more. Is there more?"
She sighs deeply, laying back against the mattress and staring at the ceiling. "Yeah, let's not forget how Gojo left you at Friday's party."
Your heart aches faintly in your chest at the thought. You may've forgiven Gojo, but the thought of being alone in that hot, sweaty house still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. "I…um. I forgave him."
"I forgave him," you speak up, albeit still meekly. "He bought me my favorite coffee without even asking—like, he knew. And he did eventually apologize once I told him how I felt about it all."
Alex hums. "Hmph. I still don't trust him. Did he ask you anything weird?"
"Eh, sorta?" you offer. "I said about like 'oh, whoever makes it to class first wins' and he said something about 'is this another bet?'"
Your friend's eyes narrow. "Fuck does he mean 'another'?"
"I dunno, Lex!" you say. "It passed quick, but he looked nervous. He also said I've been more comfortable around him lately."
"Eh, well, he's not wrong about that. Before last week you literally only spoke to me. Seeing you have other friends?" she mimics a shiver passing through her body, making you giggle. "It's a new sight."
"How backhanded," you tease.
"No! Not that you can't have friends or anything!" she insists. "But it's a transition, being demoted to your secondmost—no, thirdmost priority. Studying being first, of course."
You giggle, tucking your knees to your chest. "Well, he's nice. And he's good company, oddly enough. You forget I thirsted over him for like a month before this."
"Oh, shortcake, I certainly haven't forgotten," she squeals, laughing into her pillow. Her laughter only fuels your own, your giggles wracking your entire body.
"Shut up! He's cute, don't deny it." She doesn't. "I'm definitely not complaining that he's seemingly taken a liking to me."
"Just don't get hurt, 'kay?" she begs. "I can't have baby's first boyfriend become baby's first treacherous heartbreak."
You blush, ears and cheeks tinting red. "We haven't even gone on a date, Lex. I don't even think we're talking like that yet."
"Well, what're you waiting for?" she hops down from her bed, opening your mini-fridge and cracking open a Red Bull. "Get on that, girl."
"I'm not getting on anything! Goodbye!"
"You're fucked in the head," Sukuna scoffs, stretching out further on the couch of the Kappa Sigma house. From the kitchen, Gojo scoffs, having just finished explaining him and Geto's arrangement to his other confidant.
"Jeez, dude, way to hit a guy when he's down."
"Nah, cus you deserve it," Sukuna states, thumbs flying across his screen as he texts his girlfriend, Evangeline. "Betting on a girl? Really?"
"It's 2-grand," Gojo offers meekly. "And I'll have you know, the idea still makes me queasy. But I didn't wanna back down! You know how Guru gets. I should've, though; I already regret it."
"If I bet on Eva, she'd have me by the balls—probably chop 'em off, too. But no, you had to go for the shy chick, because she won't do shit about it if she finds out," Sukuna grumbles. "You guys make me grumpy."
"She's actually pretty self-assured," Gojo corrects him.
Sukuna scoffs. "Whatever. You're still fucked up. If you wanted pussy, you should've just done it the traditional way: one-night stand. Or, better yet, take her out on a date, get to know her, become her boyfriend, then make love to her—not fuck."
"Oh, well, aren't you just the ladies' man, Ryo?" Gojo grumbles sarcastically. "Just pissing me off, all the damn time."
"You're lucky you're my president, or I'd be saying a lot more shit right now," Sukuna says, finally ending his conversation with Evangeline.
"That's a lot of hearts you sent, man," Gojo smirks teasingly.
Sukuna jumps, shutting his phone off. He looks over his shoulder, seeing Gojo kneeling behind him, arms slung over the couch's armrest. "What the fuck, man? Shut up, I love my woman and I treat her right. Some of you whores could learn."
Gojo laughs, standing up and swatting Sukuna upside the head playfully. "Whatever, Kuna. Wake me up at 1:00. Don't let Geto near my phone."
"Don't ask, just listen."
"…'Kay? Sweet dreams, dickwad."
