After a lot of time and consideration, though I’m not entirely happy with the decision, I’ve decided to move Xingqiu over to my multi. He is now a primary muse on @arcanawinds

“Xingqiu…” Chongyun groaned in growing frustration. His face burned red and he did a meager job at hiding it by looking away. The warmth coursing through him was almost sickening, even with the cold stone beneath him providing its modest attempt to offset his fever. He fought hard, but eventually he reached his old habitual reliance on the qingxin popsicle.
He refused to look Xingqiu in the eye while his once-victory over his intense spirit turned around to shameful defeat. Bitter cold overcoming him steeling his expression.
“Maybe if you learned to sing, that would be a fair trade,” he frigidly countered, though not at all invested in the long term result. He only wanted to redirect the attention from himself and throwing Xingqiu’s lack of talent into the fire seemed the easiest escape.
“ How dare you. ” Palm pressed to his chest once again in an act of feigned offense. Xingqiu would assume there was no fire to the insult, perceived as a deflection. Chongyun seldom fared well when the center of attention.
“ I compliment you and your wondrous dulcet tones, yet you insult me in turn. I’m hurt, Yunyun. You wound me. ” Was he laying it on thick? Absolutely. Was he being dramatic for the sake of theatrics? Of course. Though Chongyun should be accustomed to his ways at this point in their relationship.
Sighing, a slight frown would mar countenance as he directed his gaze ahead of the pair. What once was jest, has fallen away for a tone more solemn, “ I’d like to believe that I’m improving. ” Though he didn’t disclose anything more, withholding the knowledge of his singing lessons.

Venti raised an eyebrow, though he couldn’t help but then smile. In his experience, those who held a touch of doubt, just enough to not have tunnel vision, took to learning the best.
“Do you?” He countered, gesturing to the boy. “It is not my opinion on this that matters, after all. Playing the part of a teacher now, I would be a fool to let it change how I teach you. Rather, do you truly believe you can learn? Are you ready to accept that?”
Xingqiu lapsed into contemplative silence as he considered whether or not he was truly prepared to take on the daunting task of learning how to sing. In his heart he was devoted to the cause ; more for Chongyun’s benefit than his own. However, his level of skill was bottom level. Animals fled from the high-pitched noise he released.
It would not be easy to accomplish, but— “ Yes. I believe I am capable of improving. ” His response was definitive with an air of confidence. “ Are we ready to begin? ”

“Wh— really?” his face paled once he’d realized the tides turned. No more defenses to hide comfortably behind as Xingqiu unexpectedly relented. And if he gave in, that means Chongyun was one step closer to honoring his own terms that he had foolishly agreed to.
“I-I mean you could just as easily… not eat it,” he hesitantly urged. Almost pleading now, full knowing he had been the one to badger the other this far. “This is all just some silly dare anyway. There’s no real reason to go through with it.”
“ Is that cowardice I detect within your tones? ” Xingqiu challenged, pinning the exorcist with a glare. The heir was a man of his word. He’s agreed to the commitment, there would be no turning back.
Fingertips drummed the rim of the container that held slices of the putrid carrots. Swallowing thickly, Xingqiu summoned every ounce of courage he could muster, doing his best to maintain a neutral expression as he plucked a slice.
Suddenly his hand jerked and he forcibly ate the slice, eyes clamped shut as he focused on anything but the nasty sensation he’s gained an abhorrence for over the years.
“ Your. Turn. ” Xingqiu bit out when it was all said and done, writhing in disgust over what he’d just endured for the sake of a bet.

Glorious court life was my youth, and my old age a moonlit haze.
I had not wished to behave so treacherously, but my very life was threatened.
So I sought out my old work, and hid them in my clothes.
I do not understand the reason behind all that has happened, only that the mysterious person’s motives must be perverse.
This poem was dedicated to Akihito, who to my great sorrow was banished.
"Don't move." Chongyun's voice was calm yet stern, staring Xingqiu down with a grave look. His hand reached over the other's hair, lightly brushing through strands before pulling away with something gently clasped between his fingers: a grasshopper.
"It jumped on you while you were reading."

Bereft of air, Xingqiu sat rigid as instructed, almost as if the element of cryo kept him frozen to the spot. But no, it was the wielder who had such an effect on him. Two simple words that compelled the heir to obey without hesitation. Ambers trailed gloved fingers, cheeks gaining a faint rosy dust in response to the feather-like touch of his hair.
Disappointment swelled in his chest as Chongyun moved away, freeing the cricket from entanglement. Yet Xingqiu found himself at a loss of words, nothing more than a squeak falling from his lips as he abruptly snapped the book shut. He then stood, marching off in the opposite direction, skin still aflame with a ringing in his ears.
The simplest form of intimate contact left him reeling. Embarrassing.
"Do you plan on releasing them into a book? That seems to be popular these days." Azhdaha skims through the young man's poetry collection. "Oh, perhaps one to accompany A Legend of Sword?"

Brows would arch as a contemplative hum emerged from the heir, fingers moving to scratch at his chin as he considered the idea. “ Perhaps I should for the next installment. I’m certain it would aid the flow of inspiration as I’m writing. ” Poems oft served as creative exercises when the Second Son found himself at a loss.
“ As for those you’re reading, I’ve thought them to be more of a personal collection. Something to be shared with only friends and family. ” Though a few from his poetry slams with a certain funeral director have been slipped into the stack.

“Right,” Chongyun had mentally moved past the deal he had struck. The less he focused on it, the more likely he was to make it through the night. And Xingqiu made a point about his appearance.
He scrutinized the traditional thaumaturge trappings he’d always wore. Much like the Millelith’s uniforms, it clearly advertised his duty to all who met him at a first glance. Not exactly the appropriate attire for a ‘date.’ Sighing in defeat, he would look to Xingqiu again for the unwavering guidance he offered.
“And what do you have in mind?” hesitation hitched in his breath, he couldn’t help but criticize already, “Nothing ridiculous looking, I hope.”
“ How pleased I am to hear that you think so highly of my generous offer. ” Xingqiu rebutted dryly, rolling his eyes at the exorcist. Had it not been due to the gravity of their mission, he would have chosen the most ridiculous pieces of fabric he could procure for Chongyun’s witty remark.
“ I’ve already chosen articles of clothing, though I’ll graciously allow you the final say. Given that you’re going on a date with me to a high-end restaurant where only those of aristocracy dine, I need you to look dapper, debonair. ” The heir knew Chongyun would be far beyond the boundaries of his comfort for most of the evening, something Xingqiu didn’t want for their first date. He wanted the swordsman to be comfortable, relaxed, and have the ability to enjoy himself.
However, they would be attending with a purpose, and that reason ( for the moment ) was of greater importance than Chongyun’s enjoyment. There was more at stake than Xingqiu cared to admit, and he needed to prioritize their assignment first, and foremost.

The brisk night air that settled in would only make the chill worse. But for Chongyun, it was a welcome relief. He nodded subtly to Xingqu’s wishes, pressing his hand against the heir’s back to momentarily peel him away to unfasten the buttons of his jacket. Shortly after, the white piece of fabric was passed in front of him.
“I hope it helps,” he added to the gesture. Thought he over-dramatic act seemed to draw more concern than intended. Chongyun scrutinized quietly before speaking again, “If not, I don’t mind leaving early. I’d rather you not get sick on my behalf.”
Xingqiu’s movements were slow, forced, and methodical as he donned the piece of fabric temporarily bestowed to him. It took an overwhelming amount of restraint to bottle in his excitement, knowing an eager squeal and a flurry of movement would likely startle the exorcist away.
“ Absolutely not! ” Xingqiu’s tone left no room for rebuttal. “ We came here to listen to Tea Master Liu Su’s stories, we shall not be leaving early. Many come from all over Teyvat to hear his enthralling tales. It would be ignorant of us to slip away into the night without allowing him to finish his grand performance. ”
