Motifs on the Addispam blog
So there are certain things I've noticed repeated on the blog a lot, which I'm going to try and break down here.
The patterns of four
The heart, star, hourglass, sickle and triangle symbols
The player connecting screens
The eye and glasses colors
The phones
The bugs
The other characters
The bonus art
The other blog
Putting a cut here to keep the post from being too long.
The patterns of four
So one of the things that keeps repeating on the blog is four. This shows the easiest with the characters, three guys and a girl. There's Addispam, AddiFell, DOS Strikethrough, and now Brackets. We also have Randy, Bean and two unnamed cousins, which appear to be another guy and a girl. There is also Beauregarde, Austin, Randall and Lena. Beatrice seems to be the outlier, unless I'm missing something, or there's more characters coming, which has been mentioned by mun in the past. Regardless, this pattern keeps repeating, and with the introduction of Blackout as one of the horsemen of the apocalypse, I imagine we will be getting two more guys and a girl soon if the pattern is correct.
The shape symbols
Next up are the various shapes we see repeated in the art constantly. A heart, star and triangle show up most, but in Beauregarde Spamton's letter, we also see an hourglass and a sickle. I believe the four shown in the letter, excluding the triangle relate directly to the horsemen of the apocalypse, with Blackout, confirmed horseman, having a heart shape for his eye. The hearts have also shown up with Addispams eye shapes, upside down hearts near DOS Strikethrough and Blackout, and in the heart shaped crack on Addispam's chest in the bonus art.
The star and upside down triangle seem the closest connected to AddiFell, showing up on his glasses lens multiple times. The star must also be connected to a horseman as it was in Beauregarde's letter. However, the star is also connected to DOS Strikethrough, as it is literally the shape of her glasses lenses. The sickle and hourglass have yet to show up on anyone, but I think that one or both will show up on Brackets as we get to know him more.
The player connecting screens
This one caught my interest with DOS Strikethrough. We didn't get a player connecting screen with Addispam at the very start of the blog, the screens only showing up with AddiFell Blackout and DOS Strikethrough. Brackets didn't get one, which leads me to believe that like Addispam, he's been here the whole time and we just didn't know it. AddiFell loaded in on his own, which makes me believe he has more willpower, or Determination than DOS Strikethrough, who had to be called on multiple times to load in. This could also relate to her being a DOS program, and possible older than the rest of them. I don't think she's too much older than the rest though, since Blackout was canonically loaded in through a floppy disk, a very old form of file storage.
The eye and glasses colors
I don't know why this wasn't brought up, but there seems to be some meaning to the color changes on the characters aside from just aesthetic choices. What made me start thinking this was when Addispam was panicking about his boss visiting. His eyes went fully red. Who else has red eyes? Blackout. Blackout was also hinted at much earlier in the blog with the offer of a commemorative ring, and with Addispam dressing like him when prompted with "Dressing how a shady salesman would".
Then, Addispam's glasses went blue when he was extremely stressed out. Who else has glasses that go blue under extreme stress? AddiFell. Who has blue glasses constantly? DOS Strikethrough. She also happens to have had her eyes turn red when in great distress as well, which happened shortly before she overloaded and crashed completely. I believe that the blue glasses are a representation of bluescreening, especially since Addispams glasses actually did bluescreen in an older post, and that the red eyes might be horseman related, considering Blackout, in his new Spamtony body, has naturally red eyes.
The phones
Throughout the blog, phones are surprisingly underused, but when they are used, they're very important. There have been four types of phone on the blog, a black phone like on Spamtons shop screen (Used only once), a red phone of the same type (Used only once in the same art), a red 80's style brick cellphone (Used constantly), and what appears to be a black modern cellphone (Used by Randy and Bean).
The red 80's brick cellphone is used the most often, shown with both Addispam and Bean which draws a connection between the two. It also draws a connection between Addispam, Bean and Randy, who judging by the fact he worked for Deltatech, a computer company seemingly based in the 80's and 90's, lines up perfectly. I'm not fully certain what the symbolism is for the phone, but it is most commonly shown during times where the characters are stressed, afraid or alone.
The bugs
And I don't mean computer bugs. On the blog, we've had two direct connections between the characters and bugs, Blackout being directly connected to spiders in multiple posts, and AddiFell oddly enough being connected to cockroaches in two posts. I feel like there's something more to this, especially when we also have Addispam being compared to a butterfly in one assk in the past. There might be some bug symbolism to look into here, and with how DOS Strikethrough acts with AddiFell, I won't be surprised if she gets connected to a black widow or praying mantis later on.
The other characters
This is where things start to get a bit foggy. We know for certain that there are more characters than what we have seen on the blog. We know about Beauregarde Spamton through his letters, and his great-grandfather is hinted about in that same letter as well. Mike, Tenna, Florence and Beatrice are also hinted at in those letters. We have seen one picture of Lena Gaster and Austin Spamton. Austin is brothers with Beauregarde, but Lena is still more of a mystery. We have also had Bean and Randy's cousins hinted at, a man and woman, and we have seen Randy's dad Randall in one post.
I believe that there are both more Spamton's and Gasters coming, and I also believe that these two possible families are in some sort of ongoing fight, which has trickled down to Addispam and the others. Here's why.
Addispam and AddiFell definitely seem more connected to the Spamtons, with AddiFell having the exact same white hair streak as both Beauregarde and Bean Spamton. His design is also a mirror of Addispam, with his suit being red, black and yellow, mirroring Addispams yellow, red and white. AddiFells suit also shares similarities with Austin Spamton's suit. Addispam and AddiFell seem to get along very well, unlike AddiFell, and DOS Strikethrough.
I believe DOS Strikethrough falls into the Gaster family, the most important visual indicator being her eyelashes, which match the cracks on Gaster's original sprite. Her attitude and cruelty are opposite to Addispam and AddiFell, which I believe must come from Lena Gaster, and whichever other Gasters exist. There is also the other visual indicator of her hair matching Lena Gaster's hair.
The bonus art
This is where the stealthiest, most unlikely lore tends to keep popping up. We got to see Addispams cracks and Randy Spamton both through bonus art long before either were properly introduced on the blog, which leads me to believe there might be even more hidden lore in the bonus art to look at.
The other blog
Finally, we come to my last analysis point for now, the other blog. "@poorlydesignedads" is the name of the sideblog, and while it has been inactive for a while, the few questions it has answered along with the pinned post tell us a lot of stuff. First off, when you go to the blog, you are welcomed to your "QUEEN personal home computer" which seems to already have software installed. The software? Adware (Addispam), Ransomeware (AddiFell), Cleanware (DOS Strikethrough), and Shareware (Brackets).
They all sport much more simplified designs reminiscent of early digital helpers you could download on computers and the types of software line up with the Deltatech tape that was posted on the main blog. Well, all except for AddiFell. AddiFell is not computer software you would intentionally download, and isn't shown in the Deltatech tape either, which makes me believe he was developed to mimic the others for malicious purposes.
Well, I would say that, if it wasn't for DOS Strikethrough. In the Addispam blog header, right as you first click into the blog, it lists out "[[Used]] Car salesman", "[[Black market]] Dealer", "[[Rogue]] Cleanware", and [[OpenSource]] Friend."
I believe that we have been misled. I think that DOS Strikethrough is the real Ransomware, and that AddiFell is the original Cleanware. DOS Strikethrough, as we already know, lies, covers up things she doesn't want shared around, and puts up a cover for everyone she meets until she hits a breaking point. AddiFell doesn't do that, he is who he is, for better and for worse. With the sheer amount of control DOS Strikethrough seems to have over him, it's not that hard to believe that she's the real malware.
But what about the Deltatech tape? It shows DOS Strikethrough right in the video! Well, that's very easy to answer. We have seen Addispam hop back and forth between a more masculine and feminine appearance easily on the blog and even in the Deltatech tape, we see a male and female Addispam. It's not that farfetched to believe that as malicious software, DOS Strikethrough could change her appearance, and change AddiFell's appearance. She could make herself look like the official cleaning software, and make him look more like a virus.
We already know she's altered his appearance already with the large cracks covering the left side of his face and his neck as said by both Addispam and AddiFell, so it's only a small leap to assume she might have done even more.
Finally, the last noteworthy thing on the sideblog, is Brackets himself. He was introduced here a long time before he showed up on the main blog, and it supports my earlier belief that he is mute, as he uses sign language to communicate on the blog. It just goes to show, he might have been here far longer than we realize.
Analysis to be continued later!
