❝ Let me explain to you how this all works. Sure, every kid of the gods is special because we’re all talented and unique and brimming with power -- yada yada yada. But this place has a hierarchy, and you best believe it runs on it. Tier 1 you’ve got your descendants of the majors: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hera. Only if you know your stuff, you know Hera’s not about infidelity like the rest of them, so she’s only got one representative here in the form of her latest offspring with old lightning bolt, Isadora. But no one really talks to her, and she doesn’t seem to like, do much.
Then you’ve got your 2nd tier, your jocks if you will -- these are the overachieving children of Athena and the spawn of Ares. But we’re talking the successful Athena kids -- the ones who are captain of the field hockey team or running the student government. The Unremarkable Athenas, we’ll come back to them. The 3rd tier holds the Aphrodite preps and the children of Hades, regardless of how outcasted the latter are. Because you see, these tiers? They’re the “top tier” kids, and they’re the ones the administration here really cares about. The ones that are going to go out and do something, be somebody, while the rest of us fade into obscurity or worse, come back here to teach.
So tier 4 is where we start to lower our standards. Certain Apollo kids, like my lovely muscle-for-brains siblings, just barely missed the cut and occasionally are deemed worthy of notice. But once you get to the ones like me, you don’t have a chance, so good thing I don’t care. Then you’ve got your tier 5s -- Hermes troublemakers, Dionysus burnouts, Hephaestus geeks. They’re at least above isolation because they’ve got something to provide -- like, none of us would ever get a good laugh without the Hermes class clowns, and none of us would drink without the glorious apples of the Dionysus tree. Which leaves the last tier, the bottom of the barrel, tier 6: Demeter, Hestia, all their unlucky offspring. All those children of minor gods and goddesses you’ve never heard about, or just don’t care to know. And then, of course, the Unremarkables -- hence the reason our brilliant pal Farkle has been scraping gum off his locker and dodging the lunch room for three years despite having tier 2 genetics. Welcome to the bottom of the barrel, honey.
