It was enough to bring you close to tears because plastered right on your door━beneath the familiar ‘22’ that’s greeted you for a year and a half now━was a glaringly bright red notice sign that said: EVICTION.

And you had three days to move out.

You stared pathetically at it, as though you were willing away the sign letter by letter until you finally unlocked the door to enter. Emptiness welcomed you when you crossed the threshold, like it always did for the past four months since your roommate moved out. She was just engaged to her high school sweetheart and now her wedding was coming up in a couple months ━ one that you were invited to as a consolation prize. Although you managed to accustom yourself to the new arrangements, the big blow of the eviction sign just made the apartment appear to be a bigger and colder. Lonelier.
