SAY GOODBYE TO FOREVER feat. jeon jungkook
You were four years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for the first time. The two of you were absolutely inseparable, doing absolutely everything together hand in hand. On that particular day, you two were digging around in the sandbox, happily building sand castles with your buckets and shovels when he suddenly announces that he’d marry you someday.
You were seven years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a second time. It was the end of the school day after all your classmates had passed out their valentines, and the two of you are holding your makeshift mailboxes made out of shoeboxes, waiting with the teacher for your parents to come pick you up. Jungkook shyly pulled out a large, red construction paper heart painstakingly decorated as nicely as a seven year old boy can do. Your name and his were written carefully in the center with the word “forever” underneath and pretty stick figure drawings of the two of you. He handed it to you without a word, matching blushes on both your and his cheeks.
You were eleven years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a third time. You had swore you were in love with a thirteen year old named Park Jimin and cried your eyes out when you found out he already had his own love for someone that wasn’t you. Jungkook had sat with you quietly until you stopped crying, and he whispered that he’d always be here for you forever.
You were fourteen years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a fourth time. He clumsily pulled you close, and the clashing of teeth and lips were awkward and a little painful, but nonetheless, sealed his fourth promise.
You were eighteen years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a fifth time. The two of you were off to different universities, pursuing different majors and dreams. However, he still assured you that you were very much part of his dream, a part he will never give up on above all else.
You were twenty three years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a sixth time. Apartment hunting has come to an end, and the two of you have found a tiny place that will become your shared home. It will become a place full of new memories and first’s that leads to forever.
You were twenty six years old when Jungkook promised you a forever for a seventh time. This time, it comes in the shape of a dainty band of gold and diamond wrapped prettily in a box. This time, you answer his promise with a promise of your own.
You were thirty years old when Jungkook stopped making his promise of forever. Tired kisses and missed dinners began to creep up on the two of you, and it was neither of your faults, but simultaneously, both of your faults at the same time. Somewhere along the way, your paths veered away from each other, no longer parallel, barely tangent, until they take you to different dreams, ones that don’t include each other.
You were thirty three years old when Jungkook broke his promise. But you broke your promise, too. Completed divorce papers are placed neatly on the dinner table, void of any flowers Jungkook used to bring you. You sit there at a table meant for two and a third in the future that will never happen, as Jungkook walks out the door with the last of his things.
Perhaps, in another universe, you and Jungkook were meant for forever.
But here, it is time to say goodbye.
