Carousel dress by Sylphide. Featuring collar made from a vintage embroidered handkerchief!
I wanted to have a cozy but glamorous dressing gown I could lounge in during the colder months. I was inspired by the one Edith’s character wears in Crimson Peak. It’s currently a work in progress because I have visions of hand embroidery detailing the front and it’s something I need to practice more! I’ll also add patch pockets too.
I started a project making clothes for myself with the intention to make custom pieces for others, please check it out if vintage style is your thing: www.sylphideshop.com instagram

Opal and glass gold-mounted pendant by René Lalique, c. 1900.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the first full week back at work after the holidays sure can be a thing.
This small, circa 1920 pamphlet from Elizabeth Arden advertises the company’s Venetian skin-care line of cosmetics, for sale at the Miller Drug Company in Wilmington, Delaware.
Fun fact; for those of you looking for a distraction from the Wednesday-ness of it all today, the FBI’s files on Elizabeth Arden, the business name of Florence Nightingale Graham (1884–1966), were declassified and made open to the public in 2010. You can check them out here (spoiler: they investigated allegations that Elizabeth Arden salons in Europe were being opened as cover for Nazi operations, but didn’t find evidence to support the claim).
For lighter reading, this pamphlet is part of the Hagley Library’s collection of trade catalogs, and you can view it online now in our Digital Archive by clicking here.
From English Illustrated, 1890. This should also be of interest: How to Be Your Own Cat.
They’ve had many lives and many ages: cats I’ve met in my time travels.
