la escargot:._ I binged today, waiting on an appointment that I didn’t even know was canceled until a half hour ago. Said binge consisted of the ‘97 film and both musicals. YES. I FINALLY GOT TO WATCH NOTRE DAME DE PARIS. And I have... feelings. Firstly, I really like the song they opened with. I liked a lot of the songs but I think I’m too tied to Menken and Schwartz too much because I personally enjoyed the German/US musical soundtrack a bit more. I’m not saying the NDdP music was awful, it was friggin’ amazing. I question the use of makeup on Frollo, Gringoire and Clopin (WHY HAS NOBODY SPOKEN ABOUT HOW FUCKING HOT THAT CLOPIN IS? CHOCOLATE CLOPIN IN STRING WOVEN DREADLOCKS. HEADCANON FUCKING ACCEPTED.) I loved the costumes but given the story’s era, it did feel out of place. I think the only one I didn’t like that much was Quasimodo’s. The red outfit and red hair made it a bit too overkill, and the huge right shoulder broke the illusion that he’s a hunchback to me. Set wise, I am a total sucker for minimalist design. I really like how they pulled off so much with such simple looking props. My only real nitpick was the dancing choreography. It looked like a hot mess. I know it added to chaotic scenes well but not others. And everyone BUT Esmeralda danced? What? Or was it just the recording I saw (it was that VHS one with clips everyone takes screens of with the awkward as fuck editing for scene transitions). The only dancing that didn’t look like they were just flailing and running around was for The Valley of Love Cabaret song. And I tell you in my exact words on it: “God DAMN, the French are fuckin’ bold with their shadow dancers.” It really added to the feeling of that song. And I honestly preferred Frollo’s death in the US musical. And fuck denial, I was sad as fuck during Danse Mon Esmeralda. That being said, I think I’ve got some muse again. Who wants to chat with my precious deaf pretzel?
I can’t wait to go to hell because of this.
Victor Hugo wishes you a happy solstice .
(i cant believe i spend 3 years in design college for this)
I’ll tell you why this is one of my fave animation pieces ever, even though it’s just Quasimodo crying, but the animation of it is breathtaking ! The pause he takes when he realizes that Esmeralda is dead, trying to deny it, and when finally he breaks and cries, the tremble in his body and his quite crying, his eyes closed all the time not wanting to see Esmeralda dead, and when he opens his eyes, they’re full of sadness and regret, one of the most realistic animated crying scenes ever, the tremble in his body, THE TREMBLE ! Amazing work by James Baxter, an underrated Disney animator !

la escargot:._ Okay, so, first off, I’m still apologizing for not being here enough. Second of all, has anyone ever heard of Homeland? They’re filming in my state until February. LIKE ALMOST A HALF HOUR FROM WHERE I LIVE. Why am I excited even though I still need to see this show? Mandy Patinkin is in it. MANDY FRIGGIN’ PATINKIN. And apparently my mom works with someone that plays an extra for it. So if I’m lucky, I might get Mandy Patinkin’s autograph. Hella.

this is amazing, merci ami
Last night Notre Dame de Paris opened again with its premiere in Paris! I’ve loved this musical ever since I discovered it five years ago, and I can’t express how excited I am about the new production! Here’s a small tribute in honor of the day.
la eacargot:._ I am like, really friggin’ ridiculously sorry that I have not been on this corner of Tumblr. A lot has been happening lately (nothing awful but a lot) and my inspiration has been failing me a bit. But I’m GOING to come back here. I love my pretzel way too much and I love the peeps he’s gotten to meet even more.
This is a new rp blog for Pierre Gringoire of Victor Hugo’s novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
If you could like/reblog this if you’re interested in rping, I would be very thankful
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
Stop calling people who practice palm reading, scrying, and tarot readings g*psies
Stop calling women who wear head scarves and flowing skirts and metal jewelry g*psies
Stop calling nomadic people g*psies
Stop calling free-spirited people g*psies
Stop calling hippies g*psies
Stop using the term g*psy in your title, header, url or links you put on posts
Stop thinking that Hollywood “g*psies” are actual accurate representations of the Romani people
Fun facts about the word g*psy
It’s a slur
If you’re a white bread kid calling yourself a g*psy it’s bullshit and racist
If you know people of Roma descent and they say g*psy, that’s their right because it is a word that they can choose to reclaim or use but you can’t (think of it like the “n” word. You may now POC’s that use it but you shouldn’t if you aren’t a POC because that’s not right)
The term being “gypped” or being cheated or swindled originated from the racist slur g*psy so try saying something less fucking racist like “i got ripped off”
Basically
Stop using that fucking word because it’s racist
it’s not up for debate
don’t do it
ok
What you can call them instead:
Roma/Romani (because that is the commonly accepted term to cover all branches and groups of the Romani peoples)
If you know that someone falls under the blanket term Roma, ask them what they would preferred to be referred to as because that’s just as fucking important as using the proper pronouns believe it or not
Love,
Someone from another minority which is regularly ignored, fetishized, and disrespected through the use of racist terms that people can’t get through their thick fucking skulls
Small note on what’s mentioned regarding “PoC” using the N word; no, if you aren’t Black you shouldn’t be using the N word.
In honour of the 155th year since the last portion of Les Miserables was released on June 30th 1862, Google has dedicated a doodle to Victor Hugo.
Google says the following:
Today we celebrate world-renowned poet, statesman, and human rights activist Victor Hugo. The final chapter of his epic novel Les Misérables was published on this date in 1862.
Before he turned 30, Hugo was already an established poet, dramatist, artist, and novelist. Today’s Doodle depicts some of his best-known works, includingNotre Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame) (1831) and the poetry collection Les Contemplations (1856). Between those milestones, Hugo began his legendary novel Les Misérables, about social injustice, redemption, and revolution.
By the time Les Misérables was published in 1862, Hugo had been exiled almost 10 years for his political views. During that time, he produced three poetry collections, plus numerous books about social and economic disparity, including Les Travailleurs de la Mer (Toilers of the Sea) and L’Homme Qui Rit (The Man Who Laughs). Hugo later founded the Association Litteraire et Artistique Internationale to support artists’ rights.
Hugo appeared on a French banknote and is honored with streets, parks, hiking trails, and statues in most large French cities, as well as in Guernsey, where he lived in exile. Today’s Doodle is a fitting addition to the long list of tributes to the venerable Victor Hugo.
