Many wonder what the food and beverage industry is like. For many people, we all have our favourite restaurants or cafes to dine in because we can’t wait to try out the savoury delicious meals or refreshing drinks, but have you ever thought about what it’s like behind the scenes? If you’re interested to know, then keep reading. This is what we call the food and beverage industry.
What is the definition of food and beverage in the industry you ask? Well to start off, it includes restaurants,cafeteria’s,cafes,fast-food joints, delis, food manufacturing operations, catering businesses, food transportation services and a few more.
Public Relations is a job where techniques and strategies are being used to uphold a company’s image to the public, but mostly in the media.Their job is to promote the brand as much as they can effectively to put a positive spin on negative events in order to decrease fallout. Public Relations department usually releases interviews, press releases, news conference and so on.
It helps build brand image and awareness for the company and it’s products. Some of the tactics used to grab the public’s attention are by releasing commercials, good imagery on posters as well as billboards, food samples, food reviews and so on. For the F&B industry, they aim to release it to the general public, aka individuals.
Because in order for the food and beverage industry to survive, they would need to promote their products as much as possible. It’s basically a loop, as soon as the company decides to release a new product, the workers in the F&B department are asked to so call popularize it, which then leads to the product blowing up in the media, resulting in a lot of customers and purchases, which then increases sales. This works for most industries out there.
According to research, some of the strategies involved in public relations to the food and beverage industry are:
Press Agent/Publicity model
“Communications professionals use persuasion to shape the thoughts and opinions of key audiences.”
Public Information Model
“Moves away from the manipulative tactics used in the press agent model and presents more accurate information.”
Two-way Asymmetrical Model
“Presents a more scientifically persuasive way of communicating with key audiences.”
Two-way symmetrical Model
“Argues that the public relations practitioner should serve as a liaison between the organisation and key publics, rather than as a persuader.”
In conclusion, PR plays a huge role in the food and beverage industry and to so many others. It’s what makes the company grow to be the best that it can be. People coming together to come up with so many different ways to uphold the company’s image is truly amazing. Without PR, I don’t think many companies can strive as much as they do now so they must be very grateful towards that department. Even the slightest bit of attention given from PR can take you a long way.
